Since it’s Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, I wanted to say something that’s been on my mind. Most of us spend a lot of time talking about football, our families, work, hobbies, and whatever else

Browns are going to ruin the QB market again lol

They will go 8-9 and sign him to a year deal worth $65 million a season.

I bet your students are used to that look. Bet you have an ESP in one of those classes

I think they would have to say if it was injury related. It sounds like it was just personal time.

Best benders ever - Bruce Smith and Dwight Freeney. Freeney was the only guy Jonathan Ogden could not block. Simeon Rice similarly had Tra Thomas’s number.

Bruce had just about every pass rush move invented and then some. Feeney may have had the best bend at speed I have ever seen. Here’s one that doesn’t get mention because of so many bad teams on which he played, Elvin Bethea. Such a nice blend of bend and power. (Different era).

Lemon missed time in the OTAs with a hammy. Missing time after 3 1/2 practices is a concern as timing routes with the slot receiver is a key part of this offense.

Worth a listen

What does the international development program even do if they aren't even giving such basic info to prospects?

UAR is a beast of a human being. We'll see if he can leverage that into being a football player. We hit the jackpot with the Jordan Mailata pick. Can lightning strike twice? We can hope, but we need to dramatically temper the expectations that accompany an individual of his athletic prowess. He's a freak athlete, but freak athletes have failed at football quite often. We'll see how it works for him. Hopefully it does, both for him and this franchise.

The real question for his development is whether apply his physical abilities to becoming a football player. It's just not about learning technique but taking the technique and learning how to apply it in game situations. With Mailata, the one thing that was apparent early is that he knew how to move his feet and what he wanted to do. Still in his first 2 seasons he struggled dealing with speed rushers and pass rushers with good bend. He had to learn how to better position himself to shut down those types of pass rushers. I think it took him every bit of 3 seasons.

Mailata had Stoutland, Kelce and Lane to help him understand the position. I hope Carter, Davis and Hurtt can provide a similar structure for Uar.

Or the trainer he was working with? But letter gap designations really seem more of an OL thing. I wonder if he knows 0, 1, 2i, 2, 3, 4i, 4, 5. Not knowing those might be a bigger issue.

Pads on and offense delivers

Drafting an injury prone WR would suck

I think offense is more numbers, and defense uses letters for gaps. Your numbers describe the alignment pre-snap rather than the gap.

That was the hope, being that the offense should be relying on a lot of RAC, you wont notice that stuff with no pads.

What made DJax so formidable was his route running and speed adjustment (quickness and burst) more so than just his speed. Eagles have three WRs with 4.3 speed on the roster, one of whom, Hollywood Brown, is likely to stick. (The other two are Danny Gray and Quez Watkins, one of which may well stick on the PS). Speed is overrated unless a player knows how to use it. Dotson, for example.

One of the things I look for in the combine is the position drills. How many steps to turn? How many steps to stop? You could see pretty quickly that JJAW took two steps to stop and couldn’t turn without rounding unless he stopped. Those matter as much as the stopwatch on a forty taken from a track stance. In fact, footedness matters too. Can the player start on either foot equally? Turn equally? Jeremy Maclin and his turns after stopping were almost always the same direction and multiple steps thus tackled 90% of the time.

Same is true for DBs. Straight line fast, like Ringo and Woolen, is at risk because both are a bit stiff in turns and body control. (Better body control and height help Woolen offset his stiffness).

Any trait in football is overrated unless a player knows how to use it. Speed, strength, arm strength, size, etc.

It's immensely valuable when it's in the right package.

Picks don't seem to count for ESP I guess

Well Hurts is pretty much still a rookie since its a new OC so giving him a grace period

Loved that Oiler team. Bum Philips, Curley Culp, Bethea, Pastorini, Ken Burrough, Earl Campbell. Great uniforms too. Bum never wore his cowboy hat in the Astrodome. Said his mama told him never to wear a hat indoors.

Haven't they kind of hid injuries before even though they're not supposed to?
