Greenard over Sweat??He hasn’t practiced yet and BG was having a productive campaign that season before getting injured in the Rams game. Ebiketit and Espensa… well they aren’t even worth trying to spell their names right.Last year Smith and Hunt as the starters clearly didn’t work and we had to make a desperate trade and bring back BG.Not being pessimistic, just realistic.I'm more optimistic. You are correct about last season. No argument. The argument for optimism is that in pro sports, for the most part, one season is not a predictor of the next season. Raleigh for the Mariners is the current, mist obvious example. Dean was a good one for the Eagles recently. Davis too. I think if realism is your point of view, relying on the past to predict the future ( for pro athlete performance) can be unreliable. We can make arguments on both sides, but it is very uncommon for guys to really good every season. It's more common for them to fluctuate. My optimism for DE is they fluctuate to pretty good this season.

Wonder if we get him in the booth or sidelines tonight. If on the sidelines then I think that basically tells us he plans to be on the sidelines to open the season.
15 hours ago15 hr Something I think has a chance of happening.Andy Dalton gets cut and everyone is like "Oh, cool, so Tanner beat him out for the QB2 spot... Hurts, Tanner, Payton is the QB room." And then the next day Howie trades Tanner and a late round pick for either Anthony Richardson or JJ McCarthy.Reasons:Howie loves going after and buying low on former first rounders to try to rebuild their value or find hidden gems.Tanner will be gone after the season, so I still think Howie will view him as an expiring asset and try to flip him for something. They were hesitant to give Hurts a new deal this offseason so Howie will be turning over every leaf to try to hedge in case Hurts doesn't have a great year. Not saying I would do those deals, I think Richardson and McCarthy blow, but I could see everyone thinking Tanner made the team and then him being traded for one of those guys hours later.

Also possible trade candidates. Plus the scouting staff has been reviewing players from all 31 other camps and those PS games for possible acquisitions, signings and tryouts. Vet guarantees may also factor into whether a player makes the 53. Take Jones, for example. Most Howie thing to do is cut him and resign him after Week 1. Given he hasn’t practiced a lot, there is minimal risk. Fill that spot with Gushiken, then waive him to move to the PS when other teams have finalized their rosters. There is risk.

Chances are they would still suck here but there is a slim chance a better organization could bring more out of them. Rare, but it happens. I'd stick with McKee, though
15 hours ago15 hr Wonder if there is any chance we get to see Lemon return a punt tonight. Have to guess he will be our punt returner unless they are planning to practice squad Covey and call him up week 1.

Ahead of him Howie wants a guy they think is reliable to win 2/4 games if Hurt’s gets injured. Now, if Payton looks great by year’s end then maybe next offseason they’d look to promote him to #2 and bring in JJ or Richardson as competition. But no chance they do it this year.

15 hours ago15 hr I still think McKee can be a good backup. He's never played with the starters. He didn't look good last year when he played but Patullo was garbage and O line depth wasn't great. If the coaches believe in him as the #2 I'm good with it.
15 hours ago15 hr I think they lost a lot of confidence in McKee. If not, they wouldn't have brought in Dalton. Some people think bringing Dalton in was some elaborate move to flip him for a pick later, and I'm certain that is not true. At the absolute most you're getting like a 6th for Dalton and even that is probably too much. They didn't do this entire thing just to get some nothing pick. They legitimately wanted him and thought he could unseat McKee as the QB2. So if they indeed soured on McKee, anything is possible.
14 hours ago14 hr McKee is a weird one. If they really soured on him they should have traded him to the Jets instead of asking for a huge package. He has seemed to regress some though. He’s looked a lot better in every other preseason

The Eagles can't reduce Hurts' cap hit with an extension, and Hurts had zero incentive to do a deal coming off a "down" year with 2026 fully guaranteed. I have no idea why this talking point won't die.

I understand the point you're trying to make, I'm telling you comparing August 2024 DTs vs August 2026 DTs is a totally pointless exercise. It has absolutely no value to compare them because we know how the 2024 DTs turned out. So our feelings on the Eagles 2024 DTs in August of 2024 are totally obsolete.2024 DTs vs August 2026 comparison isn't a great one, but sometimes thems the breaks. And that makes it fun anyway, because we can look back 5 months from now and see if it turned out to be right or wrong.Your final sentence adds the missing piece of this disconnected conversation. I don’t ever reach the end of a season and look back at how my predictions worked out. I derive my fun from crunching actual data rather than hypothetical data. And at the end of season there is a mountain of actual data to crunch.

He’s looked a lot better in every other preseasonI really don't get it at all - both McKee's regression (admittedly on a small sample size) and bringing in Dalton to compete. I thought Dalton was here to help teach the new offense, and as an option for QB2 if we moved Tanner. But as you said, if they had soured on McKee, they should have just sent him to the Jets. Dalton only cost a 7th and a $1.5mm in gteed salary, so it's not a catastrophic mistake. I just don't understand it.

I don't think it's been concretely reported, but a lot of people who cover the team and national people as well have strongly hinted at it.

14 hours ago14 hr We've had so many injuries to first string skill positions on offense that we've seen very little from the 2nd string because they were the de facto starters. Now that some of the starters are coming back, I wonder if we'll actually see a bit of the second string or if they already moth balled them and we'll get more of the the 3rd+ stringers.
