As good as Howie is he sure tries to nickle and dime positions sometimes. He was right to let Blank go, but nobody thought Epps and Carter were going to be able to do the job. He had one sitting there in the 2nd, but went TE project. OK....but make another move.

I get that but still. He could have spent 5 million in the offseason for other options.

I think it says more about Epps/Carter (Carter especially) than it does about Mukuba.

I think Howie giving his money to Davis was a mistake

I said last week that Moro is just better. Maybe they went to his reps first with a contract offer and were turned down and then they went to Davis. I would put that probability at 10%. Moro and Mailata are classic examples of why all draft picks count and you don't just give them away, even 7th round picks. I take 20 7th round flops with the chance to draft a Moro or Mailata.

People saying Moore could mean Coop goes to safety or that Moore goes to safety. They have that same option with Michael Carter now fwiw

EMW was sitting there for them in the 2nd round. They chose to take a project TE who can't block and even the most optimistic views on him was he probably wouldn't be ready for a big role as a rookie. Now suddenly they're concerned about safety when they neglected it all offseason. If you want depth that's fine, but not a good look when two games in you're already concerned enough to bring in another body.

My guess is there will be no immediate change at safety, but this is a just in case panic button and Howie may sniff around safeties at the deadline if worst comes to worst.

Howie's last two offseasons have left a lot to be desired.

Like that Howie is listening in here. Mentioned Moore a couple times after he got waived. Surprised Moore didn't sign earlier. TE & safety have been upgraded. Because we really didn't have much there.

In the end, Howie likely did save money/cap space waiting. Moore and Ertz were both productive last year and should be good veteran depth. Moore was 67 PFF with over 700 snaps last year. And he can add the ballhawk/playmaker element and aggressive tackler that they need back there. Good 24 hrs for Howie.

They have because he tries to get cute. They can't spend a ton on every position, but like we both mentioned there was one sitting there in the 2nd. He should have learned the lesson of how important safety is on the defense by now. If he didn't want to draft one then sign one. If he didn't want to sign or draft one trade for one in the preseason. The cost only goes up until he winds up giving up a higher pick at the deadline.

I'm gonna say Howie shidd the 🛌 last offseason after a Superbowl and inheriting a juggernaut and just had way too much turnover. This offseason is TBD on draft. Way too early. Otherwise an A or A minus, especially after finally adding Ertz and Moore. Getting Wicks, Woolen and trading AJ for a 1st rounder made this a really good offseason already. Making Mannion OC is trending nicely as well. And having good depth on OL, unlike last year.

Hope you are right. He's 5'9 and 31 moving to a new position. I don't see it making the impact you do, but again hope you are right. It still shouldn't have gotten to this point. Especially, with Mukuba being injury prone.

When you have a talented expensive roster you gotta nail your drafts. Doing so 2021-2024 is what propelled them to greatness. The last couple offseasons/drafts though are a part of why I think the Eagles had a down 2025 and we'll see how things go in 2026. I'm not giving up on these drafts like some people, but I think you can say these two things fairly about the drafts

1) Have not gotten the immediate impact out of these guys like we did in previous years.

2) Went away from their premium position formula that has fared them so well over the years. 3 of their last 4 top picks were non premium positions(Off ball LB, Safety, Tight End). Very un-Eagles like.

I like that Howie drafts for the future but you also need to draft for the present. He passed up getting people at positions of need on the OL, S, and TE because he drafted a guy at least a year away from making an impact while leaving holes on the roster. He's the best GM in the league but he gets too cute sometimes.

Let me be clear I wanted Howie drafting EMW or the like. But, go high for a safety last year.

Do understand why he went with TE, as Goedert is made of glass. Stowers was highly ranked and known to be a bit more of a developmental project, so gotta have patience with that one. Moore is at least a former pro bowler and has good pedigree. Think he can help in a few weeks. He's low risk, so can't complain. They had nothing.

We agree, but like I said in another post you have to also draft for the present. DG is made of glass. So is Mukuba. I have no problem going for ES as a project, but you have to make corresponding moves. My issue in part is we've seen this movie before where he brought in former big names during the season and they didn't work. They had nothing because he stuck them in that position. I hope it works this time, but at the same time it's frustrating as a fan that it got to this point. You can't fix everything or spend big money on every spot, but you can't ignore holes either. Again, if you want to reach for a project when a guy like EMW is there who would fill a hole you have to make another move.

I liked Longerbeam in college. Had some excitement about that one. Oh well.

@hputenis heard you liked longerbeams so this just hurt that he’s gone

Yup. He couldn't quite fix the whole roster in one offseason. Yeah, I'm still leary of Makuba and not penciling him in like many did. He's small, and injury prone thus far. Glad he finally did address safety and TE. Better late than never. They need the first half of this season to work the bugs out, but still have plenty of talent. And way better coaching. Hurts will be heavily relied on and will be pulling a lot of the weight til we figure things out. OL is in reconstruction as we speak. Lotta of lingering issues to correct. But do believe it's fixable.
