Yeah, if you think with your head - the offense just isn't converting money downs right now, so why go for it. If you're a bad gambler maybe one more chance will change our luck...

It’s not even that they weren’t converting…a tush push from that distance over center has a 0% chance.

I’m guessing they believed the drop off at LG to cam wasn’t as steep as Kendall but also the drop off from cam to kendall at center was probably not much or not as much in their eyes. Ditto with cam but they bought into he played G with Kelce here so has "experience” not that he wasn’t very good at it when he did play there

I'm sure that's where they are coming from - I'd be coming from 'keep as much continuity along the OL as possible' side of the ledger.

It just seems like there is no plan at all. It's constantly shuffling guys to different positions, some that didn't rep there at all during the offseason, and just hoping it all works out. Kendall has been ok at C and one of the few semi bright spots on the line and now it's just switching him somewhere else just because.

I also don't think we've seen the last of Dickerson, even though a lot of people won't be happy about it. He was doing radio hits yesterday which typically doesn't happen when guys are out long term. So they likely are going to reshuffle the line, again, midseason.

That's not a great indication that they have much of a bag to dig into for short yardage plays.

In preseason, I believe they had built up chemistry with Lampkin at C and Kendall at LG in the Patriots game. Also, might have to do more with presnap communication for the OL in this alignment.

I disagree with going for it on 4th both of those times 🤷‍♂️

You’re combining the scenario and info on hand at the time with the final results here for this thinking.

Eagles kick the FG and you’re up 13. The Eagles O has put points on the board…a little confidence going into their next drive hopefully. The Rams now need 2 TD’s to win, and the D was holding up pretty darn well all day….the Rams have a kicker who’s already missed a FG, kicked a ball OOB on a kick off. Him making essentially 4 kicks is a factor into the decisions. They also just gave up a longish FG drive…you have now go into it with the thought in the back of your head and analytics saying with the new KO rules that you have to think about the Eagles next drive. You have to flirt with the idea of a 2 point conversion after your first TD, if they got it.

The best case scenario played out for the Rams…we failed the 4th down and they’re down 10 with plenty of time. They score a TD, the Eagles do jack ish with their possession giving it right back and they only need a FG to tie and make it a 0-0 game.

Going for the TD wasn’t the wrong call…it just didn’t work out. If they would have kicked the FG and taken the points, that’s also not the wrong call.

My initial thinking was he gambled on the TD to end it, and if they failed to convert, at least the Rams are pinned deep. I like that approach if our offense had been efficient and were converting 3rd downs during the game. Since this wasn't the case, I think it was a bad call to not take the FG. Either way, they lost and it's onto London.

Yeah this is what I was getting at. The last drive would have been moot with reasonable coaching. Rams had no shot if he just makes like two normal decisions prior to that.

Honestly the game was a ‘which team sucks less’. Jones dropped an easy INT that would have made it a lot harder for them to win…potentially would have sealed the game. Or at least forced them to need to drive the length of the field twice in a shorter amount of time.

They were pretty much shut down until the final 2 drives. It wasn't as if they were cooking all game. Also, Adams pushes off a lot. His numbers would've been worse if they actually called him for OPI like they should.

Puca was 9 for 125, 4 for 71 before the last two drives.

Adams was 4 for 32, 2 for 22 before the last two drives.

Sometimes I wonder if people actually watch the games.

I am totally over using the tush push anymore unless for inches situations or if you are directly on the goalline. Anything a yard or longer is too dicey at this point given the state of the offensive line. I also think the whole lore of that play ultimately leads to them playing to get to 4th and short instead of seeking more chunk plays downfield and establishing rhythm. It had a good run, there are times where I still believe in it, but I'm tired of relying on it every short down and distance.

I saw it much more as Rams pissed away opportunities than were shut down. Maybe it was the rain but the plays were there and they just didn't make them.

No, I said it at the time it happened. The defense was playing dangerously close to the edge along with a nonfunctional offense. If it wasn’t for an official calling a 15 yard penalty they would’ve given a point on one drive. They also would’ve given up points at the field goal kicker didn’t miss a kick. Furthermore they were getting more injured as game went on. They also had more plays on them. We have seen rams/Stafford and the Rams go on big-time heaters and drives at the end of games. Those are things you and I both know.

you want me to point out that the Eagles statistically in the fourth-quarter have given up the most points in any quarter this season. you know that they’ve also given up the most yards in the 4th quarter of any quarter this season. you know they’ve given up the most first downs in the 4th quarter of in any quarter this season. Those things the eagles have a whole department dedicated to that info. Add on they are depleted and gassed. So acting like it was such an horrendous decision that he did it, knowing that Stafford and the rams could get real hot real fast on offense with a depleted defense makes even more sense for him to do it.

so I have all those facts. on top of it, the game is over if we score a TD. Stafford/rams nearly came back down 13 with 5 mins in a playoff game against us with a healthier and better defense than we had. The Rams have scored quick and fast against better defenses that weren’t depleted like the Eagles in other games. Again we almost saw it firsthand that they almost did it in a divisional game. So I get why sirianni wanted to go up by three scores.

Exactly…the decision to go for it wasn’t wrong. There’s just as strong of an argument to kicking the FG as well. The worst case scenario played out and the D which was pretty solid all day gave up a relatively quick 98 yard drive. The O couldn’t respond and the gassed D was forced back out there quick again. I don’t remember how many TO’s the Rams had, but it’s not unreasonable to think they could have easily got a 3rd possession and had a few attempts to give the fat man a chance even if they were down 17.

The saving grace right now is that the D can be very very good and keep the team in hang around mode. If they can somehow split the next two and then beat the Boyz they would be in position to make an October move on the OL and just maybe save the season. Of course the way it appears at this point looks more like a 5-12 type season with big moves to follow in the off season.

Okay, let's revisit Lampkin at C with Kendall at LG. Looks solid!

Yeah I tend to think Dickerson‘s gonna be back too. I think they’re gonna try them out again and hope that he looks better later in the season. I think that’s one of their solutions. Whether it works is another question. I don’t think it’s going to.

I don’t disagree with you. feels like they’re just playing musical chairs with the offensive line and it’s creating more chaos. Feels like it’s their OL coach Kuper is more willing to play that game.

I knew when McLane mentioned possibly other scenarios when Dickerson went on IR they were thinking of moving Cam to LG. McLane usually isn’t the type to just randomly put something out. He’s a dbag but he doesn’t do anything by accident

Hurts is definitely 1of1. It is quite a long list of QB's who could not accomplish such a feat. #5, Wentz, Vick, Foles, Bradford

Read what I wrote again…I’m responding to someone saying kicking a FG would have been pointless. I was ok with going for it…however, kicking a FG in that spot wouldn’t have been the wrong decision either. It’s a coin flip decision. There’s 100% merit to both sides.

Adams was shut down, Puka was shut down in the sense that he wasn't getting a ton of receptions and wasn't really going off. 4 for 71 isn't really anything when your team has only scored 10 points and hadn't scored for nearly 2 full quarters. He went off those final 2 drives.

Q got hurt on the first play of the 3rd qtr. up until that point, Puca had 1 catch for 28 yards. He would get 3 catches on that injured drive right away after the q exit.

Sirianni screwed them on the other 4th and long 1. But if the defense didn’t get that 15 yard penalty, they were gonna give up points. The Rams missing a field goal they would’ve also gotten more points. Eagles kind of were fortunate they officials helped and rams not trusting their kicker after the missed FG so they went for it on 4th and long. Furthermore, you had been lost Mitchell. And then you lost Greenard. So now you’re down your best pass and your best corner along with baun being out already.

We’ve all seen Stafford in his career go on a heater. I’m not really surprised he was able to get hot for two straight possessions and score touchdowns. Like I said before the Seahawks won a Super Bowl last year and had the best defense in the league, Stafford on 3 possessions carved them up and they had been doing a good job prior to that point.

1 hour ago, MF POON said:

None of that hypothetical even matters. You take the 3 and force the Rams to respond. You may not believe in momentum, but it's a real thing in sports.

I don't disagree with momentum in sports. I just disagree with what was or wasn’t going to give the Rams momentum in that moment. There is no doubt in my mind, the Rams wanted us to attempt a FG for two reasons.

  1. A successful FG keeps it a two possession game. I also believe the Rams were thinking 2 TDs regardles, and it allows them to start their next drive from way beyond the 2 yard line.

  2. On the off chance we miss the FG, Jojo’s head explodes, and the Rams are in the same boat they were, only with 7 more yards of field position. This largely eliminates any possibility of a safety due to a sack or offensive penalty.

The obvious worse case scenario was a TD, but next was having to drive from the 2 yard line.

Eh, they definitely missed some stuff, but I think the defense also played pretty well until Q went out.

Unless Dickerson shows more mobility in practice, going back to him would be foolish. Same with Jurgens. Time off most likely won't help either. Think if we see tangible progress with a Kendall/Lampkins combo this week in London, it's over for both of them. Can think of all the phantom injury designations that you wish at that point. You are sticking with the youngens for now and beyond. Mannion gets to show us more this week with a more athletic line. He would rage quit if it starts looking good and then he's told to scrap it all with LD and or CJ. They simply are not a fit with being immobile in a system that needs lateral movement to be your top trait.
