You do not quit on your teammates, team, or fans who paid your salary for all those years. If his parents were in such bad shape then make that choice during the preseason. You don't get your Michael Phelps on. He will always be the best RT to ever play, but that does tarnish his legacy. He abandoned everyone and I don't want to hear about putting family first. He took that into consideration when he decided to come back and this summer during camp. He could have walked. That is a dick move. You two went from enemies to aid loving love birds? Man this season really is over😢

I don’t blame him for leaving and doing what’s best for his family. It sucks for us on the field, but he gave everything for 14 years to this organization. And I thank them for that. That said We’re at least gonna get to know if Bell is capable of playing right tackle going forward. So you will have more data about whether we have our right tackle of the future by the end of the year.I like that it's happening now. Gives Hurts more time to build trust with the new Oline
October 6Oct 6 Lane is an all time great and can do what he wants, but I wish he would have went out before the season and gotten a proper send off
October 6Oct 6 From a cap perspective, he probably isn't officially retiring until next year after 6/1. Otherwise it's $42M in dead cap next year on top of AJ Browns $27M. That's would be rough.
October 6Oct 6 It's a dick move to not care about his well being and only selfishly care how it affects your football team. He's telling you he literally can't play right now. And your response is "F your well being, give me what I want"

How come players contracts don’t just become null and void after they decide to leave the game? Seems like a breach of contract. Not trying to sound like a jerk or anything. I’m generally curious.

Speculation is one or both parents are not doing well. He's earned the right to walk away. Maybe the Eagles should have just accepted it when he first brought it up instead of coaxing him into returning.
October 6Oct 6 On a lighter note, this would be the second straight year a player retired on us in the middle of the season. (Technically he came back this year but at the time)

We can care about his family and his health and still call him out for getting his Michael Phelps on when he made a commitment. It's a BS move to do it in the middle of the season.

Either way, the team was informed.

This wasn't a spur of the moment decision just because.Yeah sorry, some of us work. 🤣Oh go blow him. He’s great, no denying that, but you quit less than a quarter of the way into the season? Maybe there’s more to it, which I insinuated, but to retire now isn’t exactly a "hero’s goodbye” like you several of you pom pom wavers are acting like it is.

Not trying to sound like a jerk or anything. I’m generally curious. It's how Eagles structure contracts. It doesn't become null and void because it's all money that was paid while he was playing that has not yet been accounted for. It's not new money or anything, it's just they have to account for it because they decided not to in previous years.

I'm sorry his parents are sick. Many of us are in that situation. You can't blame the Eagles for trying to bring him back. At that point you either retire or honor things. If you agree to play you play it out. It's a dick move.

Instead of being upset, be thankful he tried. He can't do it. Whether it's where he's at psychologically, the health of his family, or both. He's telling you he can't do it. You just don't want to accept that he can't do it.He gave it his best shot and couldn't continue. You have no idea what he's going through so just ignorantly saying "Yes, you can do it" is what is BS.
