I think the future of the franchise hinges upon Dillard/Mailata.  If they can be great bookend tackles, restocking the rest of the roster is not THAT daunting of a task.  If one or both can't get it done, the needs tip into feeling overwhelming.

Everybody seems convinced that Dillard can't play right tackle because he sucked at it the one game he played right tackle. As I understand it, he was given like one day to prepare to play right tackle after having spent his entire football career playing left tackle. It's not like he had an entire preseason or even weeks to learn and practice the right tackle position. Might it make better sense to put Dillard at L. tackle because that's where he has played? Perhaps. I'll let the Eagles (Stoutland) make that decision.

He's a taller/longer player.  While Chase performed for one year and then took a year off, Smith has produced for multiple years in college.

He played half the season. He also played the whole season before. Even if you project his stats from last year and take back some from Smith and look at the numbers it’s still not close in either year. I think Waddle is a gigantic risk at 12. In the same games this past year Smith had 57 receptions, Waddle had 28. Either way, I know you’re agreeing with me that Smith is better. It was more about the other guy saying Waddle projects better in the NFL.

This is why I'm so happy Doug is gone, it doesn't take a genius to see that your OL is shaky and your QBs tend to hold the ball, trying to make big plays.

Strangely enough, Doug adjusted at the end of 2019, probably because he had no choice (no WR that broke a 4.5).

But the vertical patterns are seen as a cover 3 buster, but that presumes you can block long enough for slow developing routes.

The fact that Hurts, a rookie QB, had numerous deep throws says it all. People complain he had a low completion %, that's what happens when you ask him to sit behind Toth and Pryor and wait for deep routes to clear.

I think this offense could "shock the nation" this year, with a weapon or two in this draft, and a rebuilt OL. We'll have to see if Lane really is healthy, in that case this could be a dominant OL.

Add a WR, a power back (don't believe in Howard), some TE depth, all easily done in this draft, run the ball, install a scheme where there are multiple targets at different levels, providing a quick outlet when the blocking breaks down, and you don't need a great QB. Indy managed to score 361 points two years ago with Brisset at QB, Mack, past his prime Hilton (30), Pascal, Rogers, M Johnson, Doyle. Not exactly an elite group of skill players. Constanzo - Nelson - Kelly - Glowinski - B Smith, Nelson was all pro and Kelly pro bowl.

PFF ranked the Eagles #1 in 2019 with Peters - Seumalo - Kelce - Brooks - Lane. Put Mailata/Dillard in for Peters and that's the same group. If you have to replace Peters with Dillard and Lane with Mailata, it's a downgrade but still should be top ten or better.

Smith doesn't have average speed, he may not be a 4.3 guy, but that's pretty irrelevant. You don't run 40 yard dashes in shorts in the NFL, quickness and body control are far more important than straight line speed, you get open by running great routes, not slowing down or signalling your cuts, and having a short area burst that gains separation. Oh yeah, hands.

Marvin Harrison is a good comp, 178 lbs, great route runner. Ran the entire tree perfectly, which is Smith's edge.

Some of durability is size, a lot is genetics. Smith has avoided injury in college, he'll probably do so in the NFL.

Because huge speed guys with little college production is what you want in the NFL. Yeah I watch the games. Smith outperformed Waddle by a lot. He has better hands and route running. 57 catches to 28 in the same games played last year. Oh look he is faster, he must be better, Al Davis.

Well, very difficult to get the QB we all want.  For sure it is the NFL Golden Goose.  I contend it is a better, easier, and more reliable strategy to build an excellent offensive line than spending so many resources chasing a Golden Goose. 

TBs rookie RT could be Lane Johnson good.  The got the best one in last years draft and look how it helped them.

Waddle is also a good 2-3 inches shorter than Smith so even if he's only 10 lbs heavier he's more compact.  Smith makes Todd Pinkston look like David Boston.

Yeah.  He said himself he weighs 170.  Which means his playing weight is probably 165.

Because people love to over think things. They are both really good prospects but Smith is being massively underrated because of his weight. His route running and hands are exceptional and despite what one loud mouth said he is plenty fast. To me Chase is clearly the top WR in the draft but after that it's a toss up between Waddle and Smith.

And outside of the Super Bowl I don't recall any injury issues for Pinkston.

Indeed. Allied casualties were projected at a million plus. Japanese casualties were projected at ten million plus.
