That was tongue-in-cheek.  The point is that ACL's aren't like achilles tears or high ankle sprains for O-Linemen.  They have braces that can prevent re-injury and get them on the field much sooner than most other positions.  They lose a little mobility but can still anchor and use leverage, etc.    Most offensive lineman (especially interior lineman) can play at a high level with it braced. 

Ok, and what about the serious ankle injuries? Wrap them with Tommy Cooer ankle compression socks and he's good as new? And he tore both knees and not even in the league yet and to take that player at 37? I'm sorry, just not smart. There was a ton of players there that are healthy to choose from.

Point is that they are going to go from an extremely athletic C to an extremely huge C with bad wheels?   That's an adjustment.   Granted, new coaching staff, so maybe Stoutland completely restructures his blocking schemes.

The thing is, they could have filled serious needs at CB, S, LB, DT and DE and still taken a G in round 3.  Quinn Meinerz from Wisconsin-Whitewater is going to be a great NFL player.  Could have targeted him.

I felt this way earlier today about the rest of this draft.  I think most of us understand the eagles are not going to be good next year and the eagles are trying to rebuild towards 2023 where they are trying to be a playoff contender type of team. So I’m looking at who’s going to be part of that team and isn’t by that point in time. When i do that really the eagles should go best available player on the board on nearly every pick. Going through who isn’t going to be here then: slay is going to be 32. Likely gone if not declined and almost every other corner on the roster might also be gone by then as they aren’t that good. I don’t see Graham here then. Cox in his mid 30s. Barnett unless he blows up this year is also likely gone. Mcleod is likely gone at the end of this year. Harris is also likely gone by then and if he is here is 32. Singleton and Wilson both could be gone. Kelce was thinking about retiring this year so I’m guessing in 2 years is retired. Brooks and lane might be here but also declined and into their mid 30s. Goedert and sanders I’m guessing are still here. 

so basically i look at who on the current roster is here in 2023 and say I’m going best available player on the board cause the eagles if we are truly building towards 2023 have ton of positions they need to address. So you can make the case for about any position besides WR that they should go. Just take the best player on your board. Don’t force a pick cause you need a body there next year when you likely are going to not be very good anyway.

How much of it is "figuring out injuries” and how much is just blind luck?

We are talking about sample sizes that can be counted on fingers.

With that said, I get the argument of not taking an injury question mark. I would not have taken on that risk myself, but I’m not a surgeon. 

QBs are a totally different animal, especially high in the draft. I put QBs in their own category where the rules are different.

Nah.  It was a risk mitigation strategy you said for the QB you weren't 100% sold on in Round 1.  But, now its an all or nothing move for a big risk in Round 2 based on injury?

 

And I agree on QBs... they are completely different.  You are either ALL IN or you are OUT.  No middle ground, no mitigating risk there.  You put your chips in the center of the table with the guy and sink or swim with him.   That's the polar opposite of the injury risk move, which is why guys with medical red flags always slip in the draft, and why QBs always are overdrafted due to their actual talent.
