Relax. If Carson gets traded, it’s because he truly wants to be traded. And if he truly wants to be traded, then he’ll work with the team to restructure his contract so that he is tradable. 
That to me is a given.

The issue is why does he want to get traded so badly and can he get over his pride for getting benched.

Reporters kept asking questions he already answered.  He hasn't watched film yet, has to evaluate the players.  Yet they keep asking who's the starting QB, how do you see the WRs fitting into your offense, where does Reagor fit, etc.  Well he doesn't know yet.

No I will not relax because you guys do not get it.  Restructuring his contract does not change the signing bonus he has already been paid, that is what is accelerated from future years and charged to the salary cap.  The only way the Eagles can reduce the 34 million dead cap hit is for Carson Wentz to write a check and pay back his signing bonus money.  IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.  Understand how the salary cap works before making a stupid statement.

They kept asking if Carson will be back, did he ask to be traded, is there open QB competition, can you rehab Carson...he's not going to answer any of that.

Again, if Carson wants to get traded, then he’ll make certain decisions that will make a trade more palatable. I’m sure there are options in doing this otherwise he wouldn’t be asking for a trade (it would be nonsensical).

I am sure you are very confident in your knowledge of the salary cap but Carson’s agent is not a moron - he can be traded without the ridiculous cap hit.

You literally just pointed out a way that he can be traded without the ridiculous cap hit.

This is very simple: if Carson really wants to get traded, he needs to help the team make it palatable. Otherwise it’s just fluff and he’s just looking for assurances. Nothing to get so wound up about.

But I thought he came off well, he wasn't trying to put on  a Ray Rhodes front, he was very authentic which tells me he's confident in who he is.

I will say I think he got something wrong, namely, "change depending on personnel" which is good but more importantly change depending on your opponent.

If he’s going to pay back some of the cash, it will be based on a renegotiated deal.

And didn’t Foles pay the Eagles $2mm to get out of his deal? Again, relax. It wouldn’t be pretty for both sides but if Carson really wants out, there are options.

Agreed. Public speaking can be different when you are a boss vs. when you are speaking to a room of strangers for the first time. He's speaking in front of his bosses and reporters he has never seen before in a tough media town, so I'm not surprised he was nervous.  I do hope he learns that less is more though.  Just give the reporters the bare bones and you don't have to be too wordy.  If they want to ask a follow up, then they can.

You are still not getting it. They can renegotiate parts of the contract, the bonus money has already been paid. He would have to write a check to pay back the signing bonus to change the Hit. It cannot be changed as part of a reworked contract

I get it but he wouldn’t just write a check - it would need to be based on certain conditions (otherwise he could just send us the money and we wouldn’t have to trade him etc) and terms. It would be in connection with a new/different contract, maybe even with the input of the team he is going to.

Him being tradable wouldn’t be the issue if he truly wants to get it done.

I honestly don’t know - it will have to be dictated by our cap situation this year and next year. This is Howie’s job to figure out, especially in a year that we are already going to be in cap trouble but my guess is that there is a middle ground where the future cap relief, the signing bonus payback and the current compensation for the trade make-up for the cap hit.

I think you are right that trading Carson will be ridiculously difficult and is basically impossible unless he REALLY wants it. My point is, if he wants it that badly, what in the world happened?

Exactly. Plus, they should know that Howie and Lurie are probably making the call on that situation, even though it should be the HC's decision.

Of course he isn't, because he has no say in the matter. 

Howie is in complete control of the roster and Lurie is going to back him up every step of the way....sad times to be an Eagles fan.

I know, it's sad.

If Howie doesn't improve I may have to start following another team, the incompetence without improvement gets old after awhile.......he's had long enough and still screw-up every draft in the early rounds when the talent is most abundant.

My question has nothing to do with future cap hits vs compensation.  You are the GM, what is a reasonable dead cap hit to trade a player.  Previous high dead cap hit for a traded player was 21.8 million.  Could YOU live with that dead cap hit ??  Is 25 million acceptable ??  Please, just give me a number YOU can live with.
