I agree in principle, but it's not pragmatic. And vaccine mandates take time for the effect on limiting transmission to take hold. It's too late for that now. The governor needs to institute a mask mandate immediately.

The Federal Government will indemnify private insurers who institute the same policy. Vaccination rates will be 90%. It's not being done because politicians refuse to lead and make hard choices. Agreed completely with everything you said, but if you're the governor of Mississippi, none of this helps with the situation they are in right now. With hospitals already being overrun, they are past the point where vaccine mandates can stem the bleeding from the current crisis. They have no choice but to take swift action or to let people, including many without covid, be neglected of critical care and needlessly die. That they got to this point without taking vaccine compliance seriously is one thing, but now that they're here, they can't just sit on their hands and do nothing. Even though that's exactly what it seems like they're doing.

I'm referring to the state governor specifically in this context, but yes collectively at both levels of government we need to take these actions. I'm not trying to frame it as an either/or situation.
