August 19, 20214 yr Our school board is making their decision next week. Hopefully they don't F up and think merely "recommending masks" is gonna be enough to limit massive disruptions due to quarantines bound to occur once delta rips through our school. In the meantime, the kids sized kn95 masks I ordered from Korea came in, and at least one of the four types seems like it'll be a comfortable fit for both of my kids.

August 19, 20214 yr Melbourne now hit 200 straight days of hard lock down and now have the highest level of cases since the start of the lock down and the highest during 2021. No school or even playground time for kids.

They've grown tired of having to live in fear whilst countries like the US and UK experience high cases but just get on with life. We are doing things the right way.

Well their cases are super super low. They have a zero tolerance down there. One single positive case sent the entire metro area of Canberra (capital) into a week of hard lock down which then extended when a few other cases were found. 57 new cases in a day in population over 5M in Melbourne is the record level during 2021 for the city.

August 19, 20214 yr Excellent timing since we were talking about it just yesterday. New data from the UK lending validity to the proposition of get vaccinated or get covid...
August 19, 20214 yr CDC updates confirm the effectiveness of Moderna/Pfizer vaccines at preventing hospitalization and serious illness even with the delta variant. No drop whatsoever in the protection in terms of the potential for serious illness (current timelines of course so that could change over longer periods of time). Updates also confirm that there is a reduction in protection of contracting the delta variant for those that are full vaccinated. The reverse is true for the unvaccinated who are at even greater risk due to delta for both contraction and serious illness. The message continue like a drum beat and gets louder and louder. Get vaccinated.
August 19, 20214 yr The Premier of New South Wales State in Australia today finally admitted that they cannot reach and sustain a zero tolerance. They will need to live with the virus. They will stay locked down though until they can get the vaccination rates up.

I know their cases are super low. And these sudden lock downs are no way to control the virus long term.

Very slow vax rate and a population that's had virtually zero natural immunity.
August 20, 20214 yr Pretty sure that some of you have been lousy with the Lambda Lambda Lambda variant for years now. Delta is surging, but is another variant on the way? Here’s what to know about lambda

Population can't take any more and they have a longgggg way to go just to get the initial vaccines distributed and then from there they have to deal with the variants. They need to formally back track on their "zero tolerance" approach nationally, accept the political fallout, and move to a more practical approach.
