The point is where do we draw the line on the government protecting us from ourselves? I’ve said this before in other threads and I’ve said it to my friends and family members to their faces, if and when the government decides they want full control of everything, and if/when they come for you guns, there isn’t a damn thing anyone can do about it. You think they’re going to politely ask you to turn in your weapons? Or you think they’ll politely ask you for vaccination card? If you think the government is bad and out to get you and take away all your freedoms now, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Like it or not, this is the world we live in. It could be waaaaay worse. All it’s going to take is the wrong guy running steering the ship. The politicians do a great job of making us fight each other so that when the day comes when they want to drop the hammer, we’ll never see it coming. but that’s a topic for another thread and another day. Vaccines aren’t so bad when you think about what they could really do if they wanted to.
September 8, 20214 yr A question. If I’m recently vaccinated against COVID but not vaccinated against the flu, and it is during a normal flu season, am I in greater risk of dying from the flu or from COVID?

Coronavirus vs. Flu Deaths COVID-19: Current COVID-19 deaths* Flu: The World Health Organization estimates that 290,000 to 650,000 people die of flu-related causes every year worldwide. The COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly. Since this disease is caused by a new virus, the vast majority of people do not yet have immunity to it. Doctors and scientists are working to estimate the mortality rate of COVID-19, but at present, it is thought to be substantially higher (possibly 10 times or more) than that of most strains of the flu. *This information comes from the Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases map developed by the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
September 8, 20214 yr The hoax flu is particularly dangerous because 40% of the country was convinced it was no big deal.
September 8, 20214 yr thanks to uncle joe, 75% of the country has received at least 1 vaccination. there's not much hope for the remaining 25%.

Vaccines aren’t so bad when you think about what they could really do if they wanted to. Maybe you missed our little adventures in the ME? The government is not omniscient and omnipotent. A bunch of Afghan hillbillies kicked the crap out of the Brits, Russians and Americans. Sent them all running with their tail between their legs. And you think they’re going to be able to go full authoritarian at home? In the US? Against hundreds of millions of the most heavily armed population on Earth? Zero chance. The government will be able to do whatever the population allows it to do. It’s that simple. There isn’t a damn thing the government can do about it because the government relies on compliance from the population.
September 8, 20214 yr Quote Fred Lowry, a councilman for Florida’s Volusia County and a loud COVID-19 denier, is in the hospital with a severe case of COVID-19, according to the County Chair Jeff Brower. "He is in the hospital wrestling with COVID-19. It’s been about three weeks now,” Brower said on Tuesday as Lowry, 66, missed a county council meeting for the second time. Lowry, a Republican halfway through his second term on the Volusia County Council, spread COVID-19 disinformation and conspiracy theories, going so far as to say the pandemic was a hoax. "We were lied to,” he said in a sermon at Denton’s Lakes Baptist Church. Lowry often criticized Dr. Anthony Fauci, whom he nicknamed "Dr. Falsey,” and insisted the top health official was a liar and pervert. Other conspiracies Lowry promoted had to do with media coverage of hydroxychloroquine and the Wuhan lab-leak theory.

We have a government of the people...which many of you liberals seem to have selectively forgotten. They serve us and if and when they don't they are voted out. And I respectfully disagree with your conclusion on the government taking over if they wanted to. You make two big assumptions...one is that the military would oblige and participate in this takeover and two is that they wouldn't face a debilitating firefight at every third door they showed up at. Hate on gun ownership all you want, but this country will never be invaded or controlled by any government that they don't want to be. Now, does that mean we shouldn't institute some common sense laws about who we sell to, gun types and mental health screening? No, we absolutely should...and we can debate those rules all we want....but the 2nd amendment serves an important purpose.

Just saying that our guns are no match for the tanks and other fire power that we would be met with. Don’t want to start a big argument on that stuff in this thread….was just ranting last night after a few beers 😆 moving on….

While I agree that I can not see the US military turning their guns on us, who is to say that it would be people themselves? Why couldn't it be perfectly executed drone strikes and advanced military technology that nobody has? Why couldn't it be biological warfare on the citizens targeting certain areas? Killing the power grid in a certain area and sending them back to the stone age until the citizens kill each other? This thought that it would be boots on the ground and this is why it would never happen is so 1980's. We live in a different world now where it is technology, not human lives, running the military and it will only get more advanced. Every empire has come crashing down in one form or another and America will be the same way. This thought that we are some invincible entity built on the mighty power of capitalism and good ole American exceptionalism is exactly why it will eventually fail. To be American is to only care about ourselves and nobody else, even fellow Americans. I mean look at half the posts in this forum - somehow liberals and conservatives are respectively considered second class citizens because people are too shallow and short sighted to see through the nonsense. So either it will be a madman or women that is in control of the military or a virus will wipe us out because we are too stupid to follow common sense guidelines to protect each other.
