Hmm.  Feels like we've finally cut the cord.  Floating out in the ether. Anger at the faceless dismissal and marginalization of it's own fans by PE.com. But extreme gratitude for guys l

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

I'd bet there are some teams that would wallow in the mud with him. They just don't want to give him any guarantees or enough money.

Maybe. I still think more teams that rather just not deal with him. I’d actually put it down to like 1-3 teams that would if he didn’t ask for guarantees and money was right.

redistribution is completely contrary to capitalism (property rights) and taxes have everything to do with it depending on the rationale and how the capital is deployed

i am all for efficiency, which is really at the core of capitalism. spend less on military, farm subsidies, sure, but none of that moves the needle on entitlements. those are what have to go.

Why do they have to go? What necessity are people living without because of Medicare? How has industry been stifled by it?

Or maybe we could cut out the BS entitlement programs and teach people to be self sufficient instead of making them reliant on handouts to keep them voting a certain way. Some people need a net, but we are way past this.

What entitlement programs would you do away with? Subsidies for oil companies? Just about giving away federal land and resources? Subsidies for crop insurance?  FEMA?  Flood insurance?  Social security? Medicare?  Not taxing churches and religious organizations?  Food inspection?  Drug trials?  CDC and NIH?  Building weapons the Pentagon doesn’t want to preserve local jobs?  Water? Sewer? Roads? Sanitation?  Food stamps? Cheese program?  Agricultural extensions?  Building inspections?  Etc.   Biggest users of Medicaid?  Elderly people for assisted living.  Biggest users of welfare, rural white Americans.  Your food may be plentiful and cheap but growing it and getting it to your store isn’t a living wage for a lot of people.

Here is reality for you.  1 in 3 mortgages weren’t paid on in June.   The $600 increase in unemployment insurance ends at the end of the month.  October, the restrictions are off for companies that took government help.  One in six is food challenged.  We have people that post here that are in fear of permanently losing their jobs.  Of course, we should help anyone.  Let them eat cake.

Mine is an all volunteer fire department.  While the borough contributes, that contribution is voluntary.  The borough must pay their workers compensation premium.

Arguably, the services you listed are somewhat voluntary except education.  In PA, the state constitution provides for public education being available.

I think volunteer firefighters are the norm outside of big cities in NC.  NC's state Constitution also requires a publicly funded education.  I think people don't mind taxes to pay for roads, fire departments and education.  It's generally seen as a good investment.

People really don’t understand how most government programs work.   Medicaid helps hospitals and doctors get paid.  Food stamps and many food programs support agriculture and agriculture jobs, maybe even at least one poster in here who sells institutional targeted food for a living.   My electricity is nuclear based.  Without Price Anderson, there would be no nuclear energy business and no job for my son’s college roommate and good friend, who is a nuclear engineer.  Arguably, every government payout is a hand up in some way to somebody.

You can't redefine terms to suit your political predilections.

Capitalism refers to the ownership of the means of production, not the distribution of economic rents.

Efficiency is not at the core of capitalism, for one thing, what kind of efficiency? Production, transactional, social, etc.?

You're confusing capitalism with a market economy, you can have a socialist market economy, where the state owns everything but sets up markets to facilitate efficient exchange - electricity markets for example are artificial constructs set up by the state to facilitate electricity production. The advantage of markets is price discovery through decentralized information gathering.

"Entitlements" is merely a term to describe payments that have procedural protections, i.e., claims are made according to rules established by law, for example, social security payments.

That’s when his "friends” will just disappear.

Speaking of Covid tests, just got the call that my two kids are in the clear. Thanks to all those concerned.

Good.  Shouldn’t have been a question.   I wish every American would be able to get a test.

What is the turnaround time for getting the results back?

Only entitled relatively rich folk can get that sort of testing.  Remember when meat packing plants reopened with less than 100% testing?

That’s great to hear.   That was relatively quick but still took days.

If the players, coaches and staff take care of themselves, there is no need to do daily testing. I understand the mental reassurance of doing it, but I hope the scale of testing doesn't remove capacity from the proles.
