Doesn't the league have to approve all trades to prevent little schemes like dumping?

To my knowledge, the league is only interested in seeing that both teams get something. They don’t concern themselves with the trade being equal.

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

So does that differ from just straight up cutting him?

Yes.  Cutting him post-June 1, they carry that $10M into next season.   Cutting him right now costs them $10M extra on the 2020 cap.

The issue is the guaranteed salary for 2020.  If traded, that goes to the team trading for him, and the signing bonus moves into 2020.  The net difference is about $700k, but ultimately, its a huge move to help the Eagles with the 2021 cap.  They are already over and a trade would free up $10M for 2021 without any significant impact on the 2020 cap (which means not touching the 'rollover' option).

So, a trade has a BIG influence on the Eagles' salary cap moving forward, which is why I'm on board with trading away draft pick assets to free up the money.

@4for4EaglesNest has Spadaro been on WIP this morning ??  Did you hear it if so ??

I forget who posted it on the blog on the old EMB, but they said they talked to his dad and alshon not only has that foot issue he had another injury to his other leg and he’s unlikely to even play next year unless it’s late in the season. I think he’s starting the year on Pup

If Alshon were to fail a physical after a trade, the Eagles and the team who traded for him would have had to agree on a "plan B" compensation. Any trade with a player and draft pick that was used has to have that "plan B" in case a player fails that physical. It's not like other trades where they just get reversed because the draft pick was already used. So, an Alshon trade during the draft seems pretty unrealistic to me.

Agreed. I personally think they will wait to see where the cap space ends up at the end of May. If they are comfortable with the remaining cap space for this year then they don’t have to take an unnecessary hit on next year’s cap.

Yeah that and what i put which is why i don’t see it happening. Maybe a team just doesn’t care and overrides the physical but I’m guessing that would mean they were given compensation from the eagles just to take him. I don’t see the eagles finding a team to do it unless they give up a draft pick to pawn him off. Not sure they want to do that with having just 8 picks now. If it’s a 5-6th i am ok with it. However when it becomes higher than that I’m not sure they don’t try to do a pick swap.

Down to about 56 hours. Getting there.

It's great that Lurie has donated $1 million.  More than I can do.  I question this however and I'm in no way trying to take away from what healthcare workers are doing right now but I'm seeing more and more places offer free meals, even free gas to healthcare workers.  Everyone appreciates and is thankful for the hard work they are putting in but they are also still getting paid and have jobs

• The $225,000 worth of gift cards from various local businesses will go to employees at Jefferson and CHOP. It helps regional businesses and healthcare workers.

At a time when 22 million Americans are out of work, lots of them having to go to local food banks why don't establishments look to give free food or give things to our neighbors who no longer have a paycheck?

There are others who are sending food to food banks.

But, I can imagine that working in the Covid units and not having to worry about cooking dinner is a major weight off their shoulders.

My school is offering breakfast and lunch to every child 18 and under in the district... EVERY child, even underage for school.  They (the parents) have to go pick it up M-F, but its two meals for every kid that needs food, even if they hadn't qualified for free meals before all this... and its one less thing for their parents to worry about if they are out of work.

You're right that its a major weight off their shoulders.  Great to hear about the schools offering meals.

My school district as well. On Fridays they have Papa Johns slices.

Yes, I was.  The league didn't stop the Brock Osweiler trade.

Again.. why would they stop it?  Is it against the rules?  Does Alshon have a no trade clause?  Will he get a different contract structure with the new team?  Will the Eagles be skirting around the salary cap?

Not against the rules.  No, no trade clause.  Same structure, new team picks up is guaranteed salary, neither team is on the hook for salary going forward.  Eagles get the same salary cap hit as if they cut him, except that they've traded his salary to another team... same as the Texans and Browns did a few years ago.   The NFL would have a very hard time stopping it.  There's nothing against it in the CBA.  The NFLPA can't argue against it, because the player gets the same money he'd have gotten here.  And the total salary cap charges remain the same, just spread over two teams.

OK...that makes sense. I just don't want the craziness of the NBA creeping into the NFL I don't want a whiff of sketchiness with  teams to start collaborating under the table to get around rules. "you take my guy for less value for future considerations" etc I think your interpretation clears all of that up.

OK. I think I have my tiny brain wrapped around that. Thanks.

Ultimately, I still don’t think a trade happens because of his injuries and the fact there’s a global pandemic that makes some uncertainties more uncertain.

I also don’t like the idea of losing draft capital to dump salary. If it involved moving back a few spots, nbd, but a whole round or 2, naw.

Howie is supposed to be a cap genius. He’ll get it figured out by 2021.

Man, I am shocked how similar this looks.

I was totally expecting to have to get used to a new look to some degree.

Account Settings. Then Notification Settings. It's on the bottom. Just check it or uncheck it.

Click on the notification bell at the top of the page and open notification settings.  Under that you can click the boxes of what you want to happen.

I really like him, but 21 feels early. Based on fit, I’d rank him probably fifth in the WR class. If I felt better about Jefferson as an outside WR, he’d be fourth with Reagor fifth.
