I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Sure, but you and many others follow college a whole lot more than me. I guess my point to Big E is that I'm not going along with him and TEW that it was a great pick after all.

Same can be said for Hurts.

While I like how TEW put in regards to win share, because it was a smart way to phrase it, I’ll never be on board with picking a QB in round 2 in our situation.

Yeah agreed I think Agholor was too much in his own head. A bad mistake would spiral for him rather than coming back stronger. It's why in 2017 he was so good because he really limited the mistakes. In 2019 he was so bad because every mistake would spiral in to more.

I think part of it was mental.  I also think he lacked the ability to track the ball well.  So he could catch it fine when he was facing the QB.  He just never did a good job tracking deep balls and his best seasons were when he could play inside and didn't have to make many of those catches.

you have to lay down some weed barrier...use the industrial kind...it works better.

But I am in favor of legalization and taking down barriers.

I don't see why he couldn't be 2016 Big V in 2020 and 2017 Big V in 2021.

I agree. Technically, he's ahead of where Big V was right now. The knee aside, how he responds to tough coaching and the pressures of the NFL will be critical. Vaitai worked his a$$ off and handled adversity very well.

So, as per your own words, you've been talking for weeks about sports not being able to open back up. Then someone tries to refute that, and your response is a meaningless gif. Ok.

Bro, you can't be that naive.

That gif was hella meaningful.

To be clear, you didn't refute anything.  As far as I can tell, it looked like you were trying to convince yourself of whatever that gibberish was.  So I figured we were done.

Wow.  You have a "board"?  Where do you get one of those?

Frankly you sound like someone who thinks he's some sort of college scout.  The Eagles have a whole department dedicated to making these picks.  I am not a college scout and neither are you.  Regardless of what you think.  The fact is.  Most of the pundits think they whiffed on a good portion of the draft, especially that pick.  I have seen a lot of people stating they thought the 3rd round pick was a reach.  I don't need my own "Board" or fantasy persona to know they could have gotten more value elsewhere.   Plain and simple.

I don’t see myself as a scout.  I do see myself as a person who has been reviewing prospects and drafts since my best friend and I would skip school in high school and college to go to the draft at the Adams Petroleum Building.  I joined the Blog about sixteen years ago at a suggestion from Tommy or Afan on Scouts Notebook, a thread Tommy ran in the NFL and Draft part of the site.   I watch a lot of college and pro football.  It’s like chess in planning and calling plays.  But I am not a scout.  I don’t see practices.  I don’t see coaches game film.  I don’t talk with coaches or interview the kids.  I don’t fully evaluate other teams’ needs and likely evaluations.  I do like evaluating prospects as an amateur and in that capacity evaluating who the Eagles actually chose.  Part of the latter includes who was still available and fit the Eagles schemes and roster.

The Cowboys took Bradlee Anae out of Utah in the 5th who I think is a steal at that slot.  Would have loved to see the Eagles take him in the 4th.

Less athletic with arguably less moves than Miller or Avery.  Fifth seems about right but I don’t see him as a strong candidate to beat Avery or Miller, who fill the fourth and fifth DE positions.  Toohill is more athletic and enough of a project he can go to the PS. Anae might not have made it there.

So here's the problem. The issue that you have, and the issue that John Oliver articulates, is based off of unreasonable expectations. For some reason, certain segments of our society have completely and totally shifted the goalposts in regards to what we're trying to accomplish. Initially, we collectively decided that we were going to shut down the economy and disrupt everyone's lives in order to "flatten the curve." We were told that mass infection rates were inevitable, but we need to not overwhelm the hospital system. Well, we did that. Now the phrase "flatten the curve" has disappeared. I can't remember the last time I heard that phrase. Now, the new goal of all of these restrictions is some non-defined sentiment of preventing the spread (while ignoring the previous claims that mass infection rates were inevitable). You, and John Oliver, are arguing that sports can't possibly come back because it'll lead to someone getting infected. To support the shifting of these goalposts, John Oliver presents two facts. 1) an anonymous WWE employee stated that they don't feel safe and 2) two German soccer players tested positive after restarting their league. Simply put, I think your premise is wrong. People are going to get infected. Period. Temporarily shutting down the world in order to flatten the curve is something I, and most other people, can get behind. However,  keeping the world shut down for some non-defined goal of preventing infections is simply unrealistic. And honestly, it's not only unrealistic, but utterly insane when you factor in the fact that we're talking about an infection that has such a low mortality rate.

This is well said and something I think all of us should be asking.  What is the goal now?  It's not going away.  Like you said, people are going to get infected, it's just a fact of life right now.  Here in PA so many of us are excited to be in the yellow category but Gov. Wolf has given absolutely NO information on what it will take to go green.  So now here we are, in yellow, which is basically the same as red for the majority of people with still no end in site.

Regarding sports, Philadelphia looks to be no where near yellow so what does that mean for the Eagles and getting back to NovaCare?

I don’t think either TEW or I are arguing it is a great pick.   I see the reasoning, I can see where it may provide dividends if Carson gets hurt, I can see where he might be a good fit in relief and I can see how this makes the back up situation better than it was after Foles left.  Would not have been my choice but I can see the reasoning.    I also can see who was available and the chance any of them would have been a starter this fall.  So when I say Hurts may well pay off more than other players in the second round, that is just recognizing how important a quarterback is to the overall success of the team.  If I said anything to lead you to believe I think it was a great pick, I am sorry for the confusion.

So if Doug shows all his offense coaches reporting to him, does that make him head coach and OC or does it make all of them co-coordinators?

Just to clarify my position,  I think it was a bad pick, I don't agree with the reasoning and I think we believe that we had the luxury to go for a backup quarterback there when we needed way more firepower on offense.

I think sometimes Howie tries to be too smart. Almost every draft there is a wtf moment where one of our picks/moves just doesn't make sense.

Yeah i think that's probably fair actually. The slot was ideal for him, sending him deep was a literal waste of time.

Not yellow here until Friday.   I think the plan was to flatten the curve but then the deaths sank in as real and there is a reluctance to be the politician that let the deaths climb.  I think, absent a vaccine, that is inevitable.  I also think there will be some level of herd immunity for many. Doesn’t put away the fear that you or a loved one may be in that 10% seriously impacted.  Wolf should sign the legislation presented to him.  If they are wrong, then it was at least a decision supported across the majority of the elected officials.

You're allowed, but really, he's not worthy. He cherry picks opinions from "pundits", chooses what fits his narrative, doesn't even try to look at the players, and then, when you voice an opinion based on a life-long interest and, um, actual film study and systematic evaluation, challenges you because you're "not a scout." Maybe my memory is going but I don't ever recall you saying  you are, or were.

Still, it's talking football, so there's that.
