He said one really interesting thing. They asked him who was a young player on the defense that he thought would do the best under the new regime, and he immediately said Michael Jacquet. Earlier in the interview, they asked him about bringing in Steven Nelson, and he also mentioned how well Jacquet had been playing.

He also said that KVon Wallace has been doing well in the new system

Jacquet has seemed to be the early favorite for the #2 job of much rather go with him over Nelson.
As for Wallace been high on him for awhile was raw last year but thought showed a ton of promise things you want for you S.

Big thing for this Eagles team though is just some guys stepping up showing they can be plus starters. We don’t need to have every hole fix this season

Craig James earned that spot. He would have taken over for Maddox last season if he wasn’t injured. I knew that was with a different regime. Also know he’s a great ST.

Drafted by Minnesota….we’ve picked up a few Minnesota guys. Seems like a good fit. Go back and watch his college tape at Southern Illinois.

Can’t earn a job on the sidelines Injured James hasn’t earned anything hasn’t even shown he can play at the nfl level… Dude is entering his what 4th year in the league with like 60 snaps to his name not impressive at all

He’s one year older than your "front runner” Jacquet.

Though I stand by the claim that I don’t think our CBS were as terrible as our ads under Schwartz made them look.. Still think a ton of it was Schwartz scheme that put a ton of pressure on the CBs and left them alone on islands a ton.

I'm not being sarcastic...just simply asking a question.     We know Schwartz didn't like to blitz.  He is a rush 4 type of DC.

So if we were rushing 4 and the CBs were supposedly on an island... what were the other 5 guys doing?

….. That’s a great question 3 CBs one on one…. Two Lbs in some type of light zone…. 1 deep S can only Go one direction… The other S was down by the line usually as a quasi LB… Wasn’t a ton of help over the top for CBs they were left alone in that aspect of the game.

Guess in some sense it made sense for Schwartz his D was supposed to generate pressure so if in theory you could force the long ball take away the short game make the plays take longer would let the DL get home… But as we all know that didn’t really work out to well.

And???? never said anything about age of either guy lmao…. James has done nothing to speak of in the nfl has not proven he can even play at the nfl level…. just another Ostman, Hester, Opeta

But in all honesty doesn’t matter to me who ends up getting the nod at #2 CB as long as we go with a young guy over signing someone… Right now seems as though Jaquet is the early favorite as it should be…If James or Mcpearson(someone else) step up and take the spot so be it. In all reality best case scenario is that 2-3 young CBs take the step forward and show they can play. Slay isn’t getting any younger

I thought that with Schwartz, he didn't play a lot of man coverage?   Weren't we saying that getting Slay could change that last year?

Seemed there were a lot of those deep balls or crossing routes where we gave up plays because our CBs stayed on their side playing the outside leverage.

Is that really leaving them on an island with a man to man situation?

To me, the issue was always the QB getting more time to throw because he didn't have to worry about the blitz.  Made the reads easier.

If I'm playing CB,I would prefer to do it in a system that blitzes more, usually means the clock in the QB'S head is shorter, and I don't need to cover as long.

If you don’t have help yea last time I checked being on an island is when your left alone in coverage which tended to be a case with lot of our CBs…. Not sure if that was by design or miscommunications or what

But it seemed to be a trend throughout Schwartz time here as DC CBs being left alone whether it have been zone man or anything else.

As for the QB and having more time probably yet we also were near the top in pressures and sacks last year sooo idk.

Schwartz was known to run a very basic scheme beat your man didn’t disguise much which probably made the QBs life way easier.

I’m interested to see what Gannon can do and see how different the D looks under a different coach with different ideas and schemes(with mostly the same group of players)

Best scenario would be if McPhearson clicks. More than likely he'll be a BU this year though.

Mcphearson seems to be the Gannon hand picked guy and fits defense scheme many think we will run under Gannon… I don’t think Mcphearson will start day 1 but wouldn’t shock me to see him take over the job by season end.

But again I’d love to see numerous CBs step up in a big way Slay I think will rebound and play well this season but he is 31-32 already we need young guys to step up and that is the goal for me this season at all positions.

Id love to see Maddox, Scott, Jaquet, Mcphearson, James just 2-3 of these guys to step up and show they can be starters

I wasn’t a big fan of that pick. My thinking is that they need to develop him into being a backup.

According to NFL advanced stats, 12 of Hurts 71 incompletions were throwaways, one was a spike and four were drops. Remove the throwaways and the spike and turn the drops into catches and he’s right at 60 percent.

You take out the terrible offensive numbers from Tankgame and his completion percentage grows much more.

Those same advanced stats also have Hurts as throwing the highest percentage of off target throws and uncatchable balls…. Can do lot of things to spin narrative

I never understood taking stats away from player we haven’t done that with any other player… Plenty of QBs throw the ball away and still have well over 60%

Just generally speaking if you throw the ball away it means the D won and the play is dead means if you tried to throw the ball it likely going to be incomplete anyway or worse.

Throwing the ball away is sometimes the right play but should be counted against the QB and the Onas a whole means they lost the play for various reasons

This to me fits better for Hurts optimism for him to improve as you should hope for but still highlighting the fact he was a poor passer last season which is accurate about him.
