Why can’t a fourth round pick, guy we traded for or undrafted guy prove everybody wrong and become a starter?

Pretty sure McCleod was an UDFA

Bradberry's pretty po'd at the gnats and Slay's pulling for him. Maybe he'd like to play against the gnats twice a yr

I think you’re correct. He was really good in college too. Goes to show the high character hard working guys reach their ceiling. Better measurable athletes….but all don’t put in the work and dedication. McLeod a great guy and awesome for the community as well. Good story he has succeeded. Paying that guy he paid back to the neighborhoods ten fold.

Think I haven’t mentioned AJ prowess in the Redzone. Do think we needed that addition. Not sure Quez offers much there. Why we subbed him out for Ward. Smitty I believe in. Think he’ll improve there. Goedert hasn’t thrived there yet so much. Could use him to figure that out more. Some might be Ertz. Some might be QB. Feels like he should be better. AJ might loosen things up for him more.

Every guy on your team isn’t going to be as talented as a top five pick. Seems obvious to me. Like I said not all these young guys we are rostering are undrafted. McPherson drafted the highest in the fourth. But that just matters for pay at this point. Wherever they came from they been chosen to be here. We have the perfect opportunity to practice and play these young’s guys against the real top competition. Can’t really find out what they got playing against other fourth stringers. But the other key here is….it’s freaking May. A old guy vet isn’t helping anything right now. These young guys can grow and hopefully things click and they prove you wrong. You talk draft and about undrafted guys all the time. Why can’t a fourth round pick, guy we traded for or undrafted guy prove everybody wrong and become a starter? You are afraid to give them a chance. If we didn’t trade away our third first rounder maybe we pick a DB. Seems that they didn’t think a corner worthy anyway. Think a S would have been the pick. But chill a tiny bit here. When’s the first game? Just need some answers before that day. Plenty will still happen. If you roster that many guys let’s give them a chance. They can play or can’t. You put them in the first and second string for practice and PS games at least you can decide. Much harder to decide to keep or cut guys off their bench skills. Can’t see how you only need a top five level pick guy everywhere. So unrealistic. 32 teams dude. Got a great corner. Got an above average slot corner. So we just need a guy that doesn’t suck. Think we can get that out of one of these young guys with big potential. Better path to me than paying Nelson for the same results. Gotta get a guy that can at least do what he did. With the upside potential being a possible payoff. Not getting Jalen Ramsey play from undrafted guys. But not getting Ramsey either. 53 guys. All won’t be top five pick talents. But gotta build a team regardless.

Low bar. Why can't we rotate top draft picks,so we always have a decent guy at each position? I KNOW they wanted my DB pick, but the Seattle got him right ahead of us. I'm not afraid to give anyone a CHANCE, but there are reasons guys are ranked in round 1 and others go undrafted? Sure you can get lucky once in awhile, but thats all it is luck. So keep that low bar in the secondary,I would prefer we shore that up if we can with a FA pick up since we were not able to get one in the draft. get a younger guy we can sign for 2 years. Any off that list of 5(well 4/5,not fond of #5) would be an improvement. My bar is obviously higher. If what you say is true, then it's time for Zech to pony up

I mean you watched the draft. We couldn’t even get Sauce that way. So what do you want to do? Pout because other teams get good players too? No team is perfect. We won the SB with Mills and Darby for goodness sakes.

Who's pouting? I merely want the best team I can get, what's wrong with that? The fact you lowered the bar for yourself has nothing to do with me. I want gold, not bronze

Don’t see Davis as some All Pro guy though

I like your bar. Just never seen a team with first round picks everywhere. Gotta get guys from everywhere.

You want 33 first round picks all to us. I’m just being much more realistic.

Edwards was last year at LB.

We have guys that were drafted also I keep saying. But it’s a open competition if I’m in charge. Fourth round pick maybe gets you first shot up in practice and PS. That’s about it. I see it as a fine line plenty of times between a day three guy and undrafted. But your thinking is why it’s so hard for guys not super hyped. Think plenty of guys could succeed given the opportunity. They never wanted Ward on the team. Undrafted and too small and not a burner. Converted QB. But when everybody went down and they were forced to use him…guy answered the bell. Not starter level really. I just don’t see the draft process as that perfect a science at all. Tom Brady was at the end and became the best player all time. Undrafted guys succeed all the time. But you wait to get top five picks like Sauce every starting position on the team. Let’s see…22 starters….one pick each year. So 22 years you’ll have done it…oh wait…guys will have retired by then. Not too mention every first rounder is just great. The biggest hyped guys are definitely always the best sheesh.

But I will admit everybody has thought we should draft a corner the Kay two drafts. But it seemed to me a bigger plan and picture is unfolding here. Rosie didn’t set off on a one year plan last season. He hired guys to develop young players. Wasn’t going to get the top Hall of Fame coaches. So even if the coaches are a two year stop gap…they work hard and develop guys. Specifically Siri is a WR guru supposedly. Been our problem for the last few years. We invested a bunch in WR. So even if things didn’t work out long term….at least we are making progress. Had to make the team and situation look better than when he fired Pedey. It was ugly. He was looking bad along with Lurie. Team was low on talent that was old and capped out.

No,see normally you have at least a round 1 and a round 2. So if those guys are on 5 year contracts(4 for round 2),you change positions every year.by year 5 you are back to the original 2 choices. so say next year we take CB and S 1,2  (2023) In theory those guys are good until 2028('27 for the round 2). In 2024,we take RB,DE,those guys are good until 2029('28 for the round 2) in 2025 you take WR OT-good till 2030,so by the time 2028 rolls around you can take CB,S again. Now I understand this is simplification, and a perfect scenario, but you get my drift and of course guys get injured or don't pan out(which is sad if they are round 1,2 picks). So doing this limits what you need to do in FA. Like if we took a WR in round 1 every single draft, and a RB in round 2 EVERY draft chances are we would not need FA WR or RB EVER(extreme example to show my point). Just in a "perfect world". So by ignoring a position constantly, you are putting yourself into position that you MUST find FA's rather then bringing them up from within. I'm happy to see we got some LB's in,but CB and S are still being ignored as they are every year. And of course if you can't draft a QB every 5th year, then you mess up this whole formula.if you find keepers out of all these of course you sign them again, but you can see by rolling the positions, you can cover more ground

Example 2. Say we had drafted JJ instead of Reagor. Added Smith, then we really would not need to have made the Brown deal which means we could have taken a secondary player that we needed.

Would you consider Rosie good at picking DBs in the draft? I say especially S. But you are limiting your draft selections forcing positions also. Kind of feel the first two days you need the best players that come to you. Once your team is pretty complete then you go finish the puzzle and team. Of coarse that’s how we drafted the fireman. Part of me says Rosie stinks at drafting S. So it’s a wasted pick. WR he seems to bat fifty percent. But I can agree with you some of spreading out the high draft picks positionally. We been stuck on always prioritizing and neglecting positions. Almost to an extreme. Our last draft pick corners didn’t work out. Sidney was a freaking second rounder that you knew couldn’t play year one. That’s pretty steep price. Douglas a decent price. So we traded for Slay. Paying him big time. Drafted Maddox. Misused him out of desperation. Got him right now. Wallace just haven’t seen. But feels like a bust. Another S pick down the drain.

Can’t just get anything you want. Good players become available go get them. Rely heavily on the draft. But utilize any tool you can. You trade for an All Pro corner then you probably not using a high pick on one also. Had to pay him and cost draft picks. Some comes down to philosophy also.  Corners used to be more valuable I think. Rules changed big time towards the offense. Seems like a great WR beats a great corner now. See contracts seem to be reflecting this logic league wide. But the fact remains we sucked two years ago….real bad. So gotta rebuild. Isn’t going to happen in two years like you want. But feels like we got much better. We were running a 4-3. But our DC prefers a 3-4. So the logic is get a NT and LBs. Hard to argue against that much. Clearly a huge need. We were light on good LB even for a 4-3. The cupboard was pretty bare there. How you switch to 3-4 with no LBers? Just can’t even do it without looking foolish.

Think everybody jumping the gun plenty here. Nobody switches from a 3-4 to 4-3 or 4-3 to 3-4 quickly. The best DC admitted two years was the quickest. So our D will have plenty of growing pains early. Gannon second year. But really thinking it’s the first year of the new D. That isn’t getting perfected all in TC. A learning curve is to be expected. Hopefully not brutal. But to expect a top D the first half of the season feels foolhardy. Not realistic. We building a young team all around. So week one shouldn’t be the judging bar for this squad. All about how strong we grow by the end. Just need to win enough early to keep the goals alive. Get there by the end. That should be the real expectation here. Could lose to bad teams early. Not going to freak. But can we get to where we can beat a team in the playoffs. Think consistency probably will be an issue also. Young players struggle with adjusting to the grind of the NFL. Getting up for every game. I think we can be good. But also think we going to be terrible a couple weeks. Goal is to win the division. Week one is a crapshoot. If we lose to the Lions it will really hurt our chances. Pretty big game to start fast. We aren’t good enough to overlook anybody. Go in thinking we going to romp them we’ll get embarrassed.

So we have 22 starters....you think we have a young team?  The OL ... Dickerson is year 2... But the other 4 guys.. Mailata is year 5, Seamulo year 7, Lane year 10, Kelce year 12.    Goedert year 5, Sanders year 4, ... AJ year 4...  it's not a young offense.

Defense.... Graham year 13, Cox year 11, Hargrave isn't young, Barnett year 6, Sweat year 5, Reddick year 6, Slay is what 31.

It's not a young team.    For you who is obsessed and solely focused on the QB and thinking he is a 18 year old rookie instead of a year 3 vet.... maybe you want to give the team a decade to improve...but you are missing the reality. This is an older team.

If you look at the starting 22, I would wager you add all the years and you will find its one of the oldest teams in the league.

I just think you are of a different softer mindset than the reality of what the situation actually is for this current Eagles team.

We can't keep the bar low for this team thinking it's a young inexperienced team ...it's not.

And when saying ..." the WRs are legit now"  that's an understatement that really is trying to deflect any responsibility from the 3rd year QB to excel.   The WRs are arguably the best combo in team history.    Personally I would have Quick/ Carmichael and Quick/ Carter ahead of these two...but the point is that they aren't just " legit" ... it's a combo that 25 - 28 teams would take in a heartbeat...especially when you look to add in our TE to that combo.

It's not a young team regardless of a few good draft picks the last two years. It's an older very experienced team relative to the rest of the league. The bar should be higher.   We need to realize this.

You put a legit vet QB on this team and you would realize it's setup to where it should win now.   Any lack of expectation is simply due to the QB.   Because we won a SB with Mills and Darby...so it's not the secondary that is the issue.   The last time we had a 3rd year QB he was coming off a serious knee issue...and Josh Adams was his leading rusher with an Alshon Jeffrey coming off injury as his #1 with Jordan Matthew's coming back.

This dude is completely healthy with better supporting cast...  part of his intangibles should be that he should be wiser than his years...if he is year 3 with intangibles, that should be better than injured dude who has zero intangibles.

So what's the problem?  It's obvious... basic QB skills are a question.  And it can't be denied that is what the issue is...because it's obvious that the intangibles are there.

Milton 23, Quez 23, Davion Taylor 23,  Sweat 25, Stoll 24, Smitty 23, Sanders 25(but didn’t take hits until a Senior in college…and not big carry games as a pro yet…very young mileage wise), Opeta 25, McPherson 24, Mailata 25, Maddox a grizzled 26, Patrick Johnson 24, Tarron Jackson 23, Hurts 23, Gainwell 23, Epps grizzled 26, Edwards 25, Driscoll 25, Dickerson 23, AJ Brown 24, Bradley 25,  Barnett is still only 25. Not including all the youth we just added. Several other lower depth that maybe climb up hopefully. Big change over. Yes Jelce is old. Just brought in a rookie replacement though. Cox is getting older and Hargrave….probably trade one….brought in Davis and Milton changing that guard. Goedert just became a starter….so clearly not massive mileage and starting experience.

  • Author

You point towards Hurts as going into his third year. Which is just beginning anyway…but he’s 23. Plenty of guys in the draft his age. Love having quality vets to mentor the young guys. But clearly the guard is changing over. So yeah…I am more focused on Milton’s development than Cox future. These young guys maybe extend sone of the older guys careers. Is Graham a starter? You think he’s the starting SAM over Reddick? That would be surprising. Are Barnett and Sweat starters? Not even sure either are. Think they are rotational pieces. Have to think Barnett for 4-3 run and Sweat 4-3 pass rush. But looks like we going more 3-4. How do those two fit depth wise in a 3-4? Gotta utilize Sweat….but can’t say he’s starting over Reddick either. All three just entering their prime.

Team history you bring up because we have always sucked there. Embarrassing really. DJax , Maclin, Avant and Celek ….tough call there. But league wide? You higher on it than I. Think having a developmental guy in Quez year two, Reagor sucking year two and Smitty as a rookie….was below average to say the least. Quez and Smitty looking good and promising. Wasn’t all there yet for sure though. Goedert had been a backup. Had a career season. Think he can do better and will still improve. But yep… how I feel is AJ made the WR room legit…along with one more year for Quez and Slim Reaper. Watched TB with Godwin, Evans and Brown last year. Could argue all three are better than any of ours. They have two promising young guys couldn’t hardly get on the field until the end. ODB, Woods, Kupp, Jefferson…Rams had last year….our WR room doesn’t look like that. Moss and Carter for the Vikes..I can’t compare AJ and Smith to that. Let’s dial things back a notch here. We finally got the WR room legit. Not Dream Team crazy stuff.

You lost control of your roll here. Hurts took Wentz job. Fact. Happened. Root for Washington. Coaches been here one year. Defense probably being put in very different. So this is all new and being put together. You expect to switch from 4-3 to 3-4 with no bumps in the road? You think the D will be a finished product week one? You can’t see our coaches are all new at their jobs. Just snap your finger…and you at your top level ceiling? Gotta expect a learning curve here. Just naive to think things work like that. Coaching doesn’t matter though right….it’s just all players. Same guys with McVay or Siri ….same results. Bellicheck couldn’t do better. Year two of Siri as a HC…running the o…when he was an OC under Reich that was running his offense…not Siri’s. But sure….you said we weren’t a better team than several teams below us last season as the last team in the playoffs. So you thought we were the 25th best team or so. But now we add reddick and AJ should be SB bound? You gotta be more consistent. Haven’t beat a good team for years you endlessly spout… but add AJ and Reddick and we are the most elite roster now? Think you wrong with both arguments. We were the team our record stated last year as the last wildcard in the NFC. But we aren’t world beaters now either. Think we are second tier NFC team. But not week one. We gotta get there. I do think we are going to score plenty of points. Think Hurts will lead a top ten O. So not crazy far behind you. Greatest Show on turf offense we aren’t though. But stop leaving out coaching. Is Siri the top O mind to you? I don’t see it. Think he’s growing and improving…hopefully. Probably middle of the pack honestly. Hard working…good with people and players….but ‘O genius’ not heard one person suggest anything like that.

But please share with me our starting D in your mind. I’m totally interested in how you see things after that earlier post about our old starters.
