The year after 2021... and before 2023.

GB, I am not arguing about the past two years. I think Howie has done well. What I am baffled by is that the Mind set for everyone on this site is it is OK to trade up every year so we can get our stud, instead of actually doing the job of properly evaluating talent and drafting the RIGHT Guy! I keep hearing "Well, look what happens when we stay put!" I cannot believe people think it is fine to trade up every year instead of just doing your job.....

Hey  Joe, did you read this post? Was I complaining about THIS YEAR? No. You kept using this year in your arguments though.....

Wow...all this time we have been talking about this draft.   The 4th rounders this year...not getting Davis this year...Houston not taking Hamilton THIS year.

I was saying all offseason THIS year that the Eagles seemed to keep bringing up all those players they just missed out on.    So you could see where their minds were going THIS YEAR.

Again... who is everyone?  And who said it was ok to do this every year?   Simple questions?

OK, so why are you arguing my posts? I was not complaining about this year!

Who are you baffled by?   That you consider " everyone " on this site?

I'm asking who is " everyone" that said to do this " every" year?  I must have missed all these posts?   Could be something wrong with my phone or the link for me??

Drafting Reagor, Dillard, Barnett, Agholor, Marcus Smith.... these were " stay put" picks....

Lane, they already had pick 4... Cox and Graham they moved up.... stayed put for the Firefighter guy

You used this as a reason why the Eagles needed to move up this year. Because they screw up EVERY year when they stay put. Or did I misread the post?

Someone else pointed out Reagor was typical of why we should not stay put. All I said was maybe it would behoove the Eagles to do a better job of evaluating talent.

I never said getting Davis was a mistake! I simply said that I wondered what would have happened had they stayed put was all. I did not think it was a mistake to move up.

Listen, I said Howie did a great job this year. He addressed almost every position of need. Pretty amazing job. I was simply pointing out that had they done a better job prior to 2021 in evaluating talent, we may have been in a much better situation right now.

Look at the years following 2017, the drafts were terrible until last season. We had to keep signing FA's just to remain competitive. All that did was hurt our Cap....

Yes, and how did Wentz work out for us? I love moving from 25 to 22 to draft Dillard. It works both ways. Not just the first round too. Fact is Howie loves to make splashes draft day. sometimes they work out and others they don't. But the bigger picture is to scout properly. Drafting Reagor was not the result of staying put as much as it was poor scouting. Jefferson was there for the picking.....

Bigger thing is getting the players you like that you scouted.
As for how Wentz worked out played a major part in 2017 that helped win us a SB I take it anyway of the week even with the final outcome.

We trade back at times also. Howie moves when he wants to

NOTED, GB, the main point I am trying to make here is we did a crappy job evaluating talent from 2010 to 2020.(And Before HR) We had no choice but to sign a bunch of Free agents, which only hurt our Cap

Fortunately Howie is the best at manipulating Cap space. otherwise we would be in much worse shape. I will say that I am very pleased the past two drafts! Maybe he has turned it around and all of my worries are for nothing. We just need depth at some positions and a couple others. QB will remain the main focus for 2022. I think all can agree on that one....

The Eagles drafting really hasn’t been nearly as terrible as some like to make it out to be. We might miss on a tad more 1st rounder overthinking but when you actually look at teams around the league not all that impressive.

Ravens seem to be a popular opinion of a strong drafting team

2016 2/9 picks probably call a success

2017- 3/7 picks

2018-4/12 picks

2019- none really I don’t count Hollywood a good pick for them.

Wont use 2020 through 22

Yes, Getting a SB trumps everything else! I would agree to CAP hell if we were to win one more. I am 65 so not sure how many years I have left lol

I do consider Baltimore a success at drafting. I did not look at the results like you did though. I wonder how the Eagles fared those same years....? Pittsburgh and Seattle had good drafts until recently I believe...

Looking at the Eagles in that same time span.

2016- 3/8 picks Semalo/Big V/Mills

2017-none terrible draft Barnett meh but won’t really call him a good pick.

2018- 4/5 Geodart/Maddox/Sweat/Mailata

2019- 1/5 picks Miles sanders.

Eagles 8 good picks Ravens 9 good picks over a 4 year span

Am I wrong assuming we did better in the later rounds back then? Mailata was a home run. No denying that gamble....

What I do find more intriguing is that the Eagles tend to be avg at best in the first round yet we find some really good players later vs the Ravens who do Much better in round 1 but not as impressive after.

To me it shows that we have an impressive scouting team if we can find these later round guys not sure what going on at the top of the draft for us outside of just outthinking ourselves or Howie/Lurie just not listening to scouts

Yep been saying that a long time, that we are excellent at late rounders and UDFA pick-ups

Welp,we should have a good team(on paper) Now it's up to the coaches and Hurts. Easy schedule,we should be able to experiment a little, and fine tune things as we go along

That is probably why I felt Baltimore did a better job. You always notice the first 2-3 rounds and tend to over look the later ones..... Mainly because the later rounds do not normally contribute for 2-3 years. Mailata was a steal, but it took him a awhile to work with Stoutland before he started to shine. Granted, we probably have the best O-Line coach in the league.

That 2016 draft was the one where the immediate impact was way better than long term... Wentz, Seamulo, Big V, Mills...  at that time it worked because other pieces were there.

I feel the last couple drafts plus the next couple...will be more important to get the long term success to build the core.   Need to replace some of these older guys in the longer term.   I can't complain about these last 2 drafts, they look like there is potential for building that core.

Should we consider Seumalo and Big V good picks? I mean they both started less than half the games since 2016....

Sweat started 16 games in 4 years. 17.5 sacks and 60 tackles. He looks like he may be finally coming around now though

Pro Football Focus gave Epps a 72.8 overall grade, better than McLeod’s 63.7, though McLeod played more snaps

I thought Epps played well last year. Not sure if he is starting material, but he was a willing tackler...
