I thought it was unarguably the top rumor: that we were trading up for Davis. Hindsight made it very clear. Think Rosie played it pretty cool though. Probably was considering trading up even higher.

LOL I had Davis on my mock at 1 long before they did, but I wimped out for Olave/Wyatt. The "rumor" is "guess who will be within 3 of your pick"

I just brought up how many of the top defensive minds accept it takes two years to switch. This has been an issue going on for decades.

Never said because of Gannon

You said you didn't know what Gannon had in mind, and questioned if he could even do it

I probably agree with you. But I think that at least Houston realized getting one of the top two elite guys was the call. Those elite corners don’t hang on the board.

If Gardner was already off the board would you have a problem with them going Stingley?

No,I was just surprised they had him graded higher. Who knows, maybe he fits their "system" better;. Stingley is not terrible

Stingley doesn’t have a low floor. But he does have a crazy high ceiling. No denying that.

Possibly they felt he went against tougher competition at LSU than Gardner did. Still it would be tough for me to pass on ZERO TD"S allowed in his 4 years at Cincy

Besides "it's showtime" for Hurts, this is a make or break for Tua as well in Dade county

Think we got to tier two of the NFC this offseason.

so why is Mayfield on the list then ? They aren't playing them both LOL

McDaniel has turned down several offers. Our D was borderline pathetic at too many times last season. Yet….dude still was a hot HC candidate. Interviewed twice with Houston. I think he was their choice. Think the league stepped in and forced things because of the racial divides.

Well.. he is still white last I checked,  so maybe the league continues to step in?

So if you want to act like the top HC candidate that didn’t actually get a job yet will be here a long time……go ahead.

I'm just saying ..that isn't a factor for me when I'm looking to build and improve my roster.

My take is our approach was: Rosie  ‘I gotta make this DC job so attractive for Gannon to keep him. Maybe he passes on HC offers from crap franchises.’
That’s just to buy us two or three years.

My take for "Rosie"    I'm the GM, I should get good players.

I agree....then it seemed like the hot rumor was the WR that the Lions took...in the finals days leading up to the draft

How can you say that? Gotta build the team towards some bigger goal. I think it was a calculated decision to switch to 3-4. After Gannon. Not even sure how committed they were to this coaching staff. But good hard working guys they could control. Guys that actually would take the job( not to be underestimated). So I think the idea was worst case these guys are good for fundamentals with the young receivers and DB development. Build the team and develop. Get two or maybe three years out of the young coaching to make the team better. Or more….attractive. Bring in the top coach that actually has options. Even a veteran QB if needed. But if you actually thought through a longer term plan….like it would be Rosie and the FO job to do. Then you weighed the likely DC options in the coming years. Just like the draft. Think when they hired Gannon they had a Big Board of other potential DC candidates. Think not just getting Gannon but believe that board might be leaning heavy 3-4 types possible available guys for 2024 ….or whatever. Some maybe even HC level guys.

But trading up a high pick for a NT seems very much drafting a player by position than pure ranking overall. So the DC clearly matters. Gathered up a bunch of LBs to commit.

I think the head coach and the front office are the ones that matter.

Think about your logic.

There is a franchise that doesn't win any SBs in over 50 years.  A coach comes in and wins a SB in his 2nd year.    That coach leaves mainly due to the front office not allowing him to select his staff...

Now that same team is going to just  make all of its decisions based on a  new DC that was never a DC before he got here?

Do you really think this is all just Gannon?     Think about that for a second.

1 .  The coaching staff was hired because they were puppets.  2. They were hired because nobody good wanted the job.

But wait... now they are going to get players based off of ONLY these coaches???   And not even the head coach....but the guy that was a DB coach 16 months ago?

All of a sudden they put their egos aside 🤣🤣🤣 for that guy??  🤣🤣

Hold on....lol 🤣😆😂   I can see it. Guy wins SB...nah you don't know anything.   But this guy, a one year DC for a crap defense... oh yeah, we will just do what he wants.   🤦‍♂️

Hurts at 17 and Mac Jones at 18? Those numbers should be reciprocated. But that's where I see Hurts to date…Just a little below middle of the pack. I don't doubt he can get better if he's truly working hard. I don't doubt his work ethic or ability to be a great teammate.  However, this will all come to light this coming season when we see (on field/eye test, not stats for myself) whether he improved or not and how much. I wish him the best and I'm pulling for him. That would be the best outcome if he became franchise worthy. I'm very unsure whether it will happen or not.

The HC Rosie can manipulate. But the DC that didn’t all offseason interviewing for HC jobs….twice interviewed for the Texans job. Houston job looks terrible right now. One of the few jobs that might have looked worse than Philly after 2020.  We were rock bottom. Cap spent. Terrible team. With a FO nobody wants to deal with.

Siri we have under contract. He has the big job. Not going anywhere. The DC? Totally different story. He’s interviewed for multiple HC jobs this offseason. Came in highly regarded. Talks and interviews well. So to keep him what do you do? If you help out his D getting him players that helps him write his own ticket forward….obviously. If he was in the conversation…..then fields a top D. To me the obvious is he is considered by even more for their HC job.

The only thing our FO can do is try and let him know he is a boss here. Basically he’s the boss of the D. And Rosie is trying to make him happy. Siri. He’s under contract. Not going anywhere. What bigger job awaits him? Gannon Rosie has to entice that he has a great job as DC here. The GM will kick ass for him. Make it worth skipping the low rung jobs. That he can DC here and is loved. So maybe he has options….Houston isn’t enough. He can take the good  job.

Like when we stayed at 21 in the 2020 draft to take Reagor.

I think we like to secure the guys we are high on. I like us moving up way more when we sit pat or move back tends to just end in disaster for us

Yes, and how did Wentz work out for us? I love moving from 25 to 22 to draft Dillard. It works both ways. Not just the first round too. Fact is Howie loves to make splashes draft day. sometimes they work out and others they don't. But the bigger picture is to scout properly. Drafting Reagor was not the result of staying put as much as it was poor scouting. Jefferson was there for the picking.....
