My take for "Rosie"    I'm the GM, I should get good players.

Also, we have to realize that Howie had such a great track record drafting Studs prior to last year! I mean that is why we did not have to sign so many Free agents, right? That is why Howie did not have to work CAP Magic every year. We were so great drafting starters.........

Yes, and how did Wentz work out for us? I love moving from 25 to 22 to draft Dillard. It works both ways. Not just the first round too. Fact is Howie loves to make splashes draft day. sometimes they work out and others they don't. But the bigger picture is to scout properly. Drafting Reagor was not the result of staying put as much as it was poor scouting. Jefferson was there for the picking.....

Worked out great.... we won our only SB with him as the starter, and he was the reason Alshon wanted to sign here in the first place.   Eagles absolutely have a better track record when moving up, and I'm sure they went back to look at it... because you know they always have to over analyze everything.  The theme this year seemed to be all those times they barely missed their guy.  You could easily tell they were looking to move up if needed to secure a player.

Drafting Reagor, Dillard, Barnett, Agholor, Marcus Smith.... these were " stay put" picks....

Lane, they already had pick 4... Cox and Graham they moved up.... stayed put for the Firefighter guy.

You can see why they wanted to move up this year.

They got Bunkley staying put, just missing on Ngata... Patterson and Reggie Brown in 2005 were picked like 31 and 36... I'm sure looking at it they could see where moving up would have gotten them a much better player....etc.

What I see is how badly Howie was at evaluating talent. So he has to move up because if he stays put he ends up drafting poorly.

8 perennial Pro bowlers were drafted after Graham that year, so it wasn't too hard to screw up that draft. Jason Pierre Paul, Earl Thomas, Maurkice Pouncey, Mike Iupati, Bryan Bulaga, Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas were all drafted after... May be others....

Hurts at 17 and Mac Jones at 18? Those numbers should be reciprocated. But that's where I see Hurts to date…Just a little below middle of the pack. I don't doubt he can get better if he's truly working hard. I don't doubt his work ethic or ability to be a great teammate.  However, this will all come to light this coming season when we see (on field/eye test, not stats for myself) whether he improved or not and how much. I wish him the best and I'm pulling for him. That would be the best outcome if he became franchise worthy. I'm very unsure whether it will happen or not.

You bet. Last years stats were padded/skewed/BS whatever you want to call them,so this year he needs better stats than those. MUCH better. He has the weapons, basically everything he wanted(even by name). So the "bill" for "catering" comes due this year.

OK, So I think the Eagles should waste draft picks and move up Every year!  We are so bad at evaluating talent, We should do it because that way we will get a solid starter! What a concept!

Siri we have under contract. He has the big job. Not going anywhere. The DC? Totally different story. He’s interviewed for multiple HC jobs this offseason. Came in highly regarded. Talks and interviews well. So to keep him what do you do? If you help out his D getting him players that helps him write his own ticket forward….obviously. If he was in the conversation…..then fields a top D. To me the obvious is he is considered by even more for their HC job.

SO,we're going to worry about next off season now? Can we get through a winning season THIS year before predicting who gets poached?.Don't all teams worry about this every year? And if we're successful enough wouldn't we hire a DC that would think the same way Gannon does/did,since you know the REAL work has already been done? (If we changeover which now seems likely by our player selection). if the 34 works/excels/succeeds,just hire another HC that believes in the 34? Not that tough. And the players he built that with are pretty much locked in,so IDK why you have to keep overthinking this. Every team loses coaches and players ever year and it has been like this for DECADES

The only thing our FO can do is try and let him know he is a boss here. Basically he’s the boss of the D. And Rosie is trying to make him happy. Siri. He’s under contract. Not going anywhere. What bigger job awaits him? Gannon Rosie has to entice that he has a great job as DC here. The GM will kick ass for him. Make it worth skipping the low rung jobs. That he can DC here and is loved. So maybe he has options….Houston isn’t enough. He can take the good  job.

Do your job, get paid to do your job. Like any other job on this planet, if you find a better one you take it. Just how it's worked for centuries

Yeah, but the last 2 years he has really improved. Not necessarliy the guys I would have chosen, but the big picture came out fine(other than no secondary draftee, which is ok in a way because he admitted he left that go again and we had a boatload of holes to fill). But he got us Bradberry for a year. I hope he works and we can re-sign him, because Slay is getting up there a little,so who knows how long he can play at a high level. So really in the secondary there is only 1 position that should be up for grabs. That's better than needing 3/4 and out of the what ,8,9 others one of them at least should emerge. Goodrich has talent,so does Jobe(I had him as a round 5 pick) and Zech should be better at least now

yeah we moved up,but remember we also secured a 2nd round 1 pick next year by moving back (brilliant move that we raped the Saints on LOL) I know there were guys we wanted, like the first Gnats pick. Also feel very strongly that we wanted Woolen(CB). Seattle took him right before we picked,so they took a little risk he would be there, but we lost that one. Very pleased with Howies draft the last 2 years. Hopefully he stopped trying to outsmart himself and I am happy he knew he missed on the secondary(again) and went out and got us a nice hole filler than could be re-signed,so really hard for me to complain alot

GB, I am not arguing about the past two years. I think Howie has done well. What I am baffled by is that the Mind set for everyone on this site is it is OK to trade up every year so we can get our stud, instead of actually doing the job of properly evaluating talent and drafting the RIGHT Guy! I keep hearing "Well, look what happens when we stay put!" I cannot believe people think it is fine to trade up every year instead of just doing your job.....

Stine.... The Eagles are a type team to over analyze everything.   Do you think it's " only Howie" drafts they are looking at?     Jerry Robinson was the last LB drafted 1st round....probably before Howie was born?  It's not ONLY Howie ... the owner runs every part of " the culture " of this franchise.  I don't know why it's hard to see that they were going to move up when they kept talking about all those prior near misses this offseason?

I'm baffled here.  Every media show I turn on or read seems to think the Eagles killed this draft.   Are we really complaining now... after all the crap in prior years?

Stine.... you make a great leap into assuming this  " EVERY YEAR" stuff.   I've been pointing out all the signs as to why it was easily conceivable that they were going to trade up THIS YEAR!

Joe, I am not complaining about Davis. It may very well have been the right thing to do. What I am complaining about is that most feel this is OK to do every year! It is not over analyzing that is the issue. It is evaluating the college players! Until they can do this on an annual basis, we will continue to "Trade up" to get our guy.

Joe, I am not talking just about the 1st round. 2-4 also...

Who are " most "  and who said " every year"?

This comment is exactly my point! You use it to solidify why we needed to move up. I look and see it as a reason to do a better job at evaluating talent....

I'm using it to show where the Eagles were of the mindset in a year where they had great assets... that if they really wanted a guy, they were going to go after him.   They were constantly harping on just missing certain players all offseason and using that as an excuse.  They had assets, they were making this point..  very easy to see THIS YEAR THIS YEAR THIS YEAR THIS YEAR THIS YEAR...

that they were going to move up if they felt strongly about a player.

Just to be clear again....  THIS YEAR.

Wait for it....   wait for it...

THIS YEAR

Just to further clarify....  THIS YEAR.    2022.    AD.
