Everyone draft night...media and everyone else thought that three picks was a lot to move up 2 spots.    That was what Houston had as the offer.

They would have had to want Davis or Hamilton more than the OL and those picks.      Without that offer there is a good chance they would have taken either Davis or Hamilton.

You have allot more faith in Houston than I do. Taking Stingley instead of Gardener was a mistake. They made others also. To think they were gonna take someone if the trade did not happen could have been a bluff. Anyway,

Ok... so who do you take at 15 if Davis and Hamilton go before the Eagles?   Do you take that OL... or someone else?

Like I said there are always plenty more scenarios of what you didn't do, compared to only the one of what you actually did.

Let's say the Eagles keep the 4th round picks and take the two CBs and Strong with the 4th round picks?     At that point do we look at it differently?   Because then we say " the holes were filled or the needs were addressed " because it was done with draft picks.  When it's UDFA, it doesn't count even though a lot of those players might be " graded " higher than the guys who were drafted day 3.    It is what it is.

For me..Mr... they draft Hamilton...and people would still complain about the other safety spot.  It's never good enough.

If I do not get a trade partner, I would most likely draft Burks and not trade for Brown. Then I try and move back and draft Wyatt and pick up more picks. Look, I don't know what would have happened and neither does anyone else. I simply said I would have liked to see it. Howie likes to trade on draft day. HE never stays put. Loves the spotlight. IT happens every year...

I agree about the spotlight part.    But this time I prefer they went after what they considered the impact players.    Obviously looks like AJ Brown deal was in place before the draft with the details of the contract being the last part.

My guess....educated guess and I don't know for sure...but the fact that three 4th round picks were involved in trading up and not one of round 3 picks.. I don't think the Eagles were going WR with their first pick. Seems like Davis and AJ were their plan all along. Or something plus AJ.

I know you guys love your rookie players, but I'll take the 24 year old pro bowler all day.

The theme I was getting this offseason... was the amount of times the players the Eagles wanted were taken just before us.  Wilson...Ngata and a few others.  It seemed this year they were set on not having that happen.

And at the same time... we see them remain consistent and not take LB or S round 1.

How do we know he was a " finalist"  ?

He was still in the mix after his interview. Think he even interviews twice. Things were up in the air until the final hire. Rumors immediately hitting that he had very good interviews.

Where did I say I thought the Eagles gave up too much? I was just pondering what might have happened had they stayed put was all. Look, Teams like Baltimore stay put all the time and let the teams in front of them screw up. Allot of times those teams do just that and Baltimore reaps the benefits. If someone is not there, they either take BPA or try and trade back, but rarely do you see them trade up. It happens to these teams. It is just a extreme rare occurance it does.

Like trading back from Dillard for Hollywood.

I think Rosie really had to wait for Davis as it was. Think the plan was even in place to get him higher. So he was willing to pay the extra fifth without much of a blink.

I give it to Houston for pulling the trigger on Stingley. Top CBs have been so prized in the latest drafts. They’ve been an organization in total chaos. Seems like they’ve fixed things a bit.

I don’t see how You change AJ because of the Davis trade falling through. Trading for AJ either way. Probably trade back with pick 15 if Davis(only) wasn’t an option.

Like when we stayed at 21 in the 2020 draft to take Reagor.

I think we like to secure the guys we are high on. I like us moving up way more when we sit pat or move back tends to just end in disaster for us

Josh McDaniel was a " finalist " back after the Eagles won the SB....just got hired.   I don't think it's a natural progression with this...new guys emerge...different spots open up with different preferences from each organization.   I don't think we can say that even with a great year for our defense that he will eveb get an interview next year, let alone an offer.

I'm not saying it won't happen,  but we can't not build a team simply of the possibility he may leave

McDaniel has turned down several offers. Our D was borderline pathetic at too many times last season. Yet….dude still was a hot HC candidate. Interviewed twice with Houston. I think he was their choice. Think the league stepped in and forced things because of the racial divides.

  • Author

So if you want to act like the top HC candidate that didn’t actually get a job yet will be here a long time……go ahead.

  • Author

Would be nice if we can get a good to great DC out of him. Not what I saw year one.

  • Author

My take is our approach was: Rosie  ‘I gotta make this DC job so attractive for Gannon to keep him. Maybe he passes on HC offers from crap franchises.’
That’s just to buy us two or three years.

  • Author

If Gannon isn’t getting HC offers next offseason…..not good for us either…trust me.

  • Author

A fourth and two fifths so you insure running and installing your defense isn’t that much a price. Think there could even be a connection between what we are talking about with his security here and quality of his job. I could easily see his position here being much easier than Siri’s.

Interesting how Bradbury mentioned the scheme. Wonder what he was told would be happening? I picture him desiring a Richmond Sherman type roll.

LMAO,I know how much you enjoy hindsight

He’s entering his second year as a DC. He was a finalist for two HC jobs this last season.

But he doesn't have the experience to change over the defensive scheme according to you

We stayed and could have and taken JJ( this was a no brainer to everyone except Howie)

I thought it was unarguably the top rumor: that we were trading up for Davis. Hindsight made it very clear. Think Rosie played it pretty cool though. Probably was considering trading up even higher.

I just brought up how many of the top defensive minds accept it takes two years to switch. This has been an issue going on for decades.

Never said because of Gannon

I probably agree with you. But I think that at least Houston realized getting one of the top two elite guys was the call. Those elite corners don’t hang on the board.

If Gardner was already off the board would you have a problem with them going Stingley?

Stingley doesn’t have a low floor. But he does have a crazy high ceiling. No denying that.
