More Hurts slob fest.  Me personally, I don't like the #1 for a QB of his stature.  From a visual standpoint, 1 is lean and narrow, looked great on Charles Rodgers at Michigan State.  He was tall and lanky.  Hurts is a thicker built QB and with the flak jacket on, 1 looks too small on the jersey.  He's built like Donovan.  5 was perfect for his build.  Hurts looked good in 2 as that fills the jersey.  Carson was taller and 11 filled him out.  2 looks silly on him.  I could go on and on about numbers.

I've said it before but I've always loved the aesthetics and visuals of the game of football.  Numbers and how they look on certain players, certain positions are a huge part of that.  It's why I'm not happy with the relaxed numbers rule.  I'm sure some will give me a hard time for the post but it's just something I always liked going back to when I was a kid.

Just some random comments for people who didn't watch the game and have no intention to do so. I find myself being more annoyed at the result of the game than I probably should. It's ridiculous t

Couple things, Men and women in sports are treated differently as are stigmas about mental health regarding men and women, the stigma being it's a sign of weakness and as football is a physically tough sport a football player citing mental health as a concern would be looked at more unfavorable than say a female table tennis player.

Ask Shawn Andrews, he was obliterated in the media and by his own team even after bei g diagnosed with bi polar.

Secondly tom brady gets paid million s of dollars to play, Biles as an amateur only gets paid what she gets from endorsements.

So a little different there as well.

Having said that I think as more and more high profile athletes and people take a stand to take their mental health seriously the less stigma there will be behind it.

It's easy to sit some one down give them some time off when they are physically hurt/injured yet mental health isn't as visually obvious yet still unchecked can lead to future problems.

I'd assume most teams employ a sports phycologist and and I think those professionals can be as beneficial as say a masseuse or physical therapist in maintaining a players health, the question is whether or not majority of players take advantage of mental health professionals provided them or they declined due to the stigma behind seeking mental health care as a weakness

I think it was McPhearson that mentioned meeting with the Eagles psychologist this year.  Yep, here is the article.

to be clear here, I dont think Biles has, or has been diagnosed today with any mental illness. By her answers in the media after the event it really just sounds like she was just nervous. Thats totally different. One is acceptable and deserving of support. The other is chicken ish, and deserving of blame for letting the team down.

How do you know what her past history is with mental illness?  That's typically something that is discussed with a patient and their doctor, then depending on the the type, severity, etc could be disclosed by the patient to their loved ones, etc. Something like an anxiety disorder isn't typically made public knowledge unless the patient wants it to be.   Just a guess.

What in the world are you talking about?

Ok so what you're saying is that if John Street went out today and shot up half of Fifth and Norris , Jim Kenney should be publicly tarred and feathered?

Sandusky wasn't a coach after 99.   The fact that he had "Keys to anything" had nothing to do with Joe.

Entire thing was a ridiculous New England Bob Ley Witch hunt and you all bought into it.  Should be ashamed of yourselves for being so easily misled.

@4for4EaglesNest has no clue what he’s talking about other than getting you to respond. Congrats to him for success

Here’s a point I just read…

Jesse Owens, a black man, won 4 gold medals in NSDAP Berlin with Adolf Hitler watching.

Biles got the yips, or "twisties” as it’s apparently called in gymnastics. That S is dangerous considering the stuff she does midair.

Covid was a nasty one and caught the world by surprise but, imo, we need to start treating this like the severe flu/virus it is at this point (in the U.S.) and stop treating it like the bubonic plague.

Well the plague is easily treated with antibiotics. We have some loose in the US in Colorado.

Around 30K die from the flu each year.  Maybe vaccination would help that too.  But getting ill or injured by exercising freedom of choice doesn’t put the burden solely on the person not taking care. If insured, then the injury/illness cost is spread amongst other insureds raising premiums and, if not, to taxpayers through Medicaid or Medicare.  My two cents.

You watch gymnastics?  Or is your wife making you watch it.

I watch the olympics. Women's gymnastics is one of the top events for me, as well as swimming, diving, track, mens soccer and basketball mens and womens beach volleyball, and womens volleyball. I also love that skateboarding and surfing are included now.

I dont really watch any of the other events. Maybe an occasional handball or water polo match.

Shooting, judo, fencing... boring.

The summer games are great. The winter games, not so much.

I love a lot of winter events too. Snowboarding events, skiing events. Luge and bobsleigh, speed skating. I even enjoy the figure skating once every 4 years.

cross country skiing is boring. And worst of all is the hockey.

I would rather watch a blank screen than gymnastics.  But hey.  I don’t like Taco Bell either.  So what do I know?  I usually am all in on the olympics.  Just can’t get into it this year for some reason.

I havent caught as much as Id like and usually do. Kids dominate the TVs too much, in addition to work and things.... It also sucks when the times are screwed up so bad and everything is taped and you know the outcome.

Something like the average anxiety disorder wouldn't really be considered "mental illness" by the vast majority of the public since a high % of people (whether they know it or not) have a certain level of what could be considered anxiety issues.  Getting nervous, stumbling your speech in front of a stranger, blushing in front of strangers, not beings able to handle criticism, or stress, etc etc could be considered mild versions of anxiety disorders.  Not being able to fall asleep after certain events, overthinking things etc etc could also be considered a mild form of an anxiety disorder.  And yes, getting nervous in front of a crowd and not being able to perform at 100% could also be considered a form of an anxiety disorder.

Mild forms are almost natural but as people grow, mature, etc they eventually overcome the milder ones.  The difference between mild and severe forms really depends on how a person reacts to the "feeling" and whether or not they are able to deal with it on their own (through mental exercise, meditation, focus etc) or if not, maybe through medication, etc. That said, I'm not a doctor, just making an educated guess based on experience and my college background when I studied psychology.

There are anxiety disorders.... and then there is just being human and feeling nerves before competition. Thats not illness. You just need to learn coping skills. Which... is something these younger generations dont seem to learn. So they quit. So now we will start calling a little bit of competitive nerves a mental illness and coddling them even more. And praise them for being quitters and taking care of their mental health. So wrong. Taking care of their mental health is not what we just witnessed today.

She met with a sport psychologist once for competition nervousness and supposedly learned how to turn it in to focus. In sports psych this is a principle known as the inverted U hypothesis. You show and describe this curve to the athlete. Explain that those feelings are normal. But there are coping strategies to make sure you know how to peak at the right time. Too little arousal you under perform. Too much, you underperform. You learn how to peak.

Yet I brought up the Ohio State assistant coach who has actual wrestling team members talking about how he ignored the doctor’s molestation and even said he told them to lie about it and you ignored that.  You have some vendetta about PSU and create fiction to support your position.  Cult?  JFC, to quote you. PSU and Pennsylvania addressed the problem head on.  Ohio and Ohio State buried it and awarded that assistant coach.  Michigan State stepped up to their issue too.  Ohio State, not so much.

I hate it, it’s a specialist number. It feels like Hurts is just doing the speed run through his career with the jersey change, hype videos and everything else while he still can.

Yup sounds like eagles doing due diligence as they should.

These guys are a financial investment it's to the teams and players benefit to ensure they are mentally emotionally fit, though I'm not sure to what extent teams take  other than initial psych eval.

I like some skiing and other winter events.  But track and field and swimming is the best for the summer.

Did I hear right that there’s 3vs3 basketball in olympics now?

yeah there is 3v3. American men didnt qualify though so I wasnt interested.

I fenced in college.  Swordplay is boring?  The thing with shooting sports, martial arts, fencing is understanding the precision just like gymnastics and many of the other sports you listed.  But I also enjoyed the surfing tonight.

I get the generation thing but I still feel like he cranks it up to the next three levels where other professional QBs don’t. Unless I’m not paying enough attention I haven’t seen a thing from any of the top QBs this year or last.

not all sword fights are boring. sword play is though.

Little skinny wobbly swords with 900 lbs of padding is dumb. Real swords is cool
