The only concern with today, is the short game gonna get figured out, like Doug, and are we going to be able to push the ball down the field to compensate when teams shrink the field.

Yep. They took what the Falcons gave them, but their defense also stinks. We'll see.

One of the Lethal Weapons, right? The one where they pull the whole house down.

My favorite scene in all of them is the "Do you really wanna jump"

BTW.  Who won the final score prediction?

Week 1 winner goes to @dawkdaballhawk with a prediction of 31-10.

Bonus prediction winners go to:

@BigEFly Eagles convert 2pt while leading

@jamiller Eagles have inspired win, pleasant week, kumbaya/Superbowlz

Technically correct were:

@Iggles_Phan 60-70 mins of football played

@Veejer Gameday blog sucks and is stupid

These both were about as easy of predictions as a Ben Simmons foul sho.... nvm

Close but no cigar go to:

@DEagle7 Hurst to have more receptions/yards than Pitts. Missed by 4 yards.

@devpool Hurts 260 yards 2 TD' passing, 60 yards 1 TD rushing. Missed the 1 rushing TD.

@TorontoEagle Eagles 200+ yards rushing. Missed by 27 yards.

TBD:

@EaglePhan1986 says something stupid, gets suspended 2 weeks.

Special shout out to @vikas83, that one was for McNabb

Ok not eagles related but funny/gross. My mom and dad are big no name fans. They went to the game today. Apparently sewage pipes bursted above their section today and poo water rained on them all. Dan Snyder is such a bad owner lol.

Was there any possibility that the Eagles could have kept Marquise Goodwin for this year or was that trade cancelled?  I'm confused with how that all worked out.  Appears he would be a better 4th WR here than Ward.

They could have just signed him after the trade was reversed, they got a pick and 49ers cut him but clearly they weren’t interested.

66 offensive plays.  0 for Boston Scott, 14 for JJAW, 15 for Greg Ward.

Like I said earlier.  Nice to see them know who belongs on the field and who doesn't.

One of the things I didn't like about DP was the constant rotation at positions.  No one ever got in to a groove.

Play your best players. PERIOD.

nope.

Hardly any passes to the RBs.  Strength of Atlanta’s defense is at LB.    I think we need to be careful of reading too much into the game today. My hope is we see plays focused on the opponent’s weaknesses next week too.  My thought is given the strength of the 49ers defense is the pass rush of its DL and the weakness is the secondary, that we see more passes to the RBs next week, which may include Scott.   Short and intermediate routes. JJAW was good in blocking and I think we will continue to see him in that capacity which at some point opens him up for passes.  Ward is the #4 WR.  Interesting, although he wasn’t targeted, he was in when they wanted sure hands.

I think play your best players is the wrong conclusion.  They used a lot of the active players and what they did is play their players where they are at their best..I really like that. And that means we should expect new wrinkle next Sunday.

I can’t wait for the All 22.  Will be a fun game to watch.  I think the straight plays to Watkins, Smith, Gainwell and running Boobie to the right is going to reveal some use of the same formations and routes with a twist after Atlanta adjusted as a bit of miss direction.

Bruh... 🤷‍♂️.

What was wrong with my prediction of the score?

Unless the Bears pull off a big upset, the whole NFC North lost today, and the whole NFC West won.

I was really hoping there would be a ten second runoff so your bonus prediction was wrong

Another LT down for the Bears.

Jason Peters injured and now his backup injured.

Howie needs to get one the phone with the Bears and sell Dillard for a 2nd.

Impressive... they bring in a new LT and the Bears decide to run a running play right behind the new LT.

Yes, I needed a change of pace I worked in grocery retail for 15 yrs with everything going on it has become complete hell.

I figured now is the time for me to make the change, tons of opportunities out there

Dillard for both of the 1st round picks they control.   Get it done.

Montgomery looked like he had a finger issue.    That's a big blow for them.  He's a big part of their offense.

Now that I got my 2 cents on Hurts out of the way, here is the rest of the team, starting with the bad:

-  I have been captaining the bandwagon of 1 (myself) for getting Reagor and Watkins off PR and KR duties, respectively, for a long time now.  If either of them ever impact a game on ST, it's going to be in a bad way.  Both of them have so much talent at WR, yet are so raw...let them put all their energy into fine tuning that skill.  We don't need them as returners, mostly because they aren't helping at all.

- All you can do is beat the opponent in front of you, but we have to acknowledge something...the Falcons look to be VERY competitive in the race for #1 overall.

The positives:

+++ Coaching.  When the defense was getting gashed early in Q1 and they got hit for 12 men on the field, it was pretty easy to panic and feel that these coaches were in over their heads.  They stayed within their game plan.  As much as I would have liked to see certain muscles flexed that they either couldn't or didn't try to flex, they clearly called the best game on both sides of the ball to win with the guys they had.  Well designed and executed plays on offense, great matchups on defense.  No immature or foolhardy efforts to make statements, just a cool, well thought out game plan.

+++ WRs.  Are the Eagles in danger of having weapons on offense?  It's early, but the Smith/Reagor/Watkins trifecta just might be something to get excited about.  Leave it to E45 to bury a criticism in the positives, but I really like that we didn't waste time with targets to Greg Ward and JJAW.  The coaches clearly know who their big 3 are and worked to get them the ball.

++ Sanders/Gainwell.  This combination works.  For a late round rookie, the coaches clearly have substantial confidence in Gainwell.  Gainwell may not have the most explosive acceleration in the world, but he has the look of a back who makes smooth movements and is highly skilled in every aspect of his job...routes, vision, blitz pickup, etc.

++Secondary.  Schwartz was underrated in many respects, but his management of the secondary was not one of them.  Gannon's fresh perspective should do wonders here.  Of course, Matt Ryan's complete noodle arm did wonders as well.  But no one was flying open in the way we are used to seeing.  The secondary had a perfect game...no one stood out and the opposing team struggled to achieve anything in the air.

++OL.  All the OL experts will tell you they can't evaluate things until the all-22 is available.  I probably made a point of following Mailata alone on about 1 in every 5 or so plays.  He looked pretty flawless each time.  Another criticism buried in the compliment section, but Hurts never sat still in the pocket to scan the field...so it was a little challenging to evaluate their pass protection.

++DT's.  I watched the game after recording, had no sound.  I have to imagine the announcers were going off on the Falcons OL, specifically the LG situation.  Was something going on there?  Hargrave was signed to be a stud, but Ridgeway never stood out like that before.  That both of them were doing it from the same spot makes you wonder if they were squaring off against a matador.

++Sweat.  As a rookie, we all said he looked the part of a high first round pick but had no idea how to get off the LOS at the snap despite his elite explosion.  Well, he figured it out.

+ Barnett.  Early in the game...I said to myself that Barnett, with his lack of speed, athleticism, and explosion, was going to be a waste as this standup edge rusher in Gannon's defense.  And yet, his combination of tenacity and technique kind of made it work.  At this point, we know what he is and what he isn't.  But he'll get you some effort and hustle plays.
