Speaking of DL, George Karlaftis has looked like a flat out stud this pre-season.  He seemed like such an underwhelming, Derek Barnett type of prospect but he looks like can be a nightmare off the edge.  Relentless, powerful and a finisher.  Had no interest in him in the draft but he's gonna be good.

I'm sorry I brough such a depressing topic into the blog.  A little back story without too much detail. I met my friend 12 years ago during an AF commissioning program. He was on top of the world

Love the O Line discussion. Where's @justrelax when you need him?

Still wondering about RT...but inside looks set.

Stout's been teaching phone booth moves but outside could become a liability really quick if Lane follows the usual pattern, in for 6, out for 4, back for the finish run....

I was opposed to the Eagles taking him, but he looks legit

I know it's just the preseason but this #2 Turpin kid for Dallas has two return TDs tonight, one kick return and one punt return. You hate to see it.

Fletcher Cox is exhibit A. why you don't extend Hargrave.  Hargrave may have had more sacks than Cox last year but 6 of them were in the first 5 games.  the rest of the year he had 1.5.  Cox had 2.5 in the last 3 games alone.  Both players are horribly inconsistent.

1 Fletcher Cox 2021 16 25 10 12 7 3.5 2 1 0 1 0 0 0
2 Javon Hargrave 2021 16 27 36 18 9 7.5 1 0 0 0 0 0 0

You have changed your argument.  Initially you were advocating trading Hargrave.  That is the prop that you have gotten lots of pushback on.  Your refocused argument is advocating not extending Hargrave.  So far I haven't seen anyone disagree with you on that.

Regarding your chart 2021 and 16 and 7.5/3.5 are self evident, but you give us no help in understanding what any of the other numbers are for.  However, if I move from left to right, Hargrave wins the first column 27 to 25, the second column 36 to 10, the third column 18 to 12, the fouth column 9 to 7 the sacks column 7.5 to 3.5 then there are three columns where Cox wins.  Not having any idea what those columns represent, I think there is no question that your assessment that Fletcher Cox is DT1 and Jordan Davis is DT2 does not hold water.

Fletcher Cox and Jordan Davis.

Maybe I misread this post, @mattwill, is this not the projected lineup moving into the season?

Regardless of rankings, is it not the best deployment of our resources to use both these guys to rip the heart out of opposing Offensive lines?

Not tracking your thinking here...unless you are just disagreeing with the assessment..

Thought Karlaftis was a good one but the book on him was heigh floor low ceiling. Let's see how this plays out

Wentz gonna Wentz

Actually really liked him. Would have been happy if the Eagles snagged him

I worry a bit what happens at RT.

Lane is awesome, no doubt,  but history shows he misses time and whats the plan moving forward?

I don't think Seamolu can slide out permanently and be effective, only temporary.

Who's in the pipeline?

Wouldn’t hate the idea of using an early pick on Lane’s eventual replacement in the next draft. Would lock down 4 young guys on the OL for next 3 years

I was on the pro- side of karlaftis and he looks like the talent i saw but lets see what he does in the regular season

Not thrilled with Hargrave as a NT.

He's not big enough for NT so I agree with that, but he plays with really good pad level, i.e. low, and he has excellent hands. When we go to an alignment with a NT, Davis will be that guy. Hargrave is ideal at the 4i or 3-tech as he is our best interior pass rusher.

Wouldn't hate it necessarily. But QB, EDGE, and DB all seem like much more pressing needs for early picks. Yeah he may miss time here and there but I also wouldn't be shocked if he plays at a high level for 3 years and then you're just burning a high pick on a backup.

Hargrave is facing a major decrease in snaps.  Davis is going to get his and so is Williams.  Hargrave is tremendously overvalued IMO.

Again, the final 11 games last year, 1.5 sacks, 11 tackles.

2022 cap hit, $17.8 million.

I don't know where this bee in your bonnet is coming from. I'll just say that I disagree. He injured his shoulder last season about midway through but played through it. IMHO, he's our best interior pass rusher.

Agree to a point but starting caliber Tackles usually cost a high draft pick, generally speaking...

...unless you are a Jordan Mailata...;)

Worry about the RT also.  Behind Lane, the drop off could be big.  Driscoll is the only viable choice.  They may draft someone next time, but that won't help the upcoming season.  Wish Howie has already addressed this position and has a player in place to develop and step in when needed.

Howie has addressed the position. You said so yourself. It’s Driscoll. P.S. He can flop Mailata and play Dillard at LT. Thats two viable options.

The ideal would be a tackle who can play guard - like Herremans, and Todd was a fourth rounder.

Assuming the starters don't play, who are you watching today?

-Cam Jurgens.  Can he keep it up and dominate like last week?

-Patrick/Kyron Johnson.  Both are getting decent reviews.  Can they make impact plays on D/ST?

-Josh Jobe/Zech McPherason. These two are the top outside CB right now.  Can they hold it down?  McPhearson is safe, can Jobe separate himself from Gowan and the rest?

-Reed Blankenship.  Does he make plays or is he the Alex Singleton at safety collecting meaningless tackles.

-Brittain Covey.  It's time to see a return more than 10 yards.  Can he make plays out of the slot?

-Kenneth Gainwell.  He's had some pretty bad reviews.  Eagles desperately need a RB2 to step up.

-Andre Dillard.  Penalty last week, fights in camp and concussion.  If the starters on both teams don't play, I want to see him dominate the 2s.

-Josiah Scott-  I want to see him play at safety.

-Nakobe Dean-  Let's see him make some plays.

-Ugo Amadi.  Did JJAW bring them anything of value or was it a wash?

-Grant Calcaterra.  I'm guessing we might see him in a limited role.  Can he make some of these acrobatic catches during the game?

-Marvin Wilson/Marlon Tuipulotu.  Are they improving as much as reports are?  Can they make my Hargrave trade talk carry any weight?

-Minshew/Sinnett/Strong.  Let's see some consistent backup QB play.  Help the younger WR make some plays.

-Quez Watkins.  Like Dillard, if he's going against the 2s, I want to see him take over.  His speed should be on display.

Will I see the great Carson Strong today or are we saving him for the regular season Brady Mahomes style?

That’s a good list. I’ll add one name; Togiai. He had an excellent game against the Jets. He has a chance.

Would it be crazy to slide Seumalo out there and bring the RG off the bench?
