If I make it to the end of the year and retire any unused vacation turns into $$$ I'm waiting for the day they change the policy. Ours turns to cash if we leave or retire too. Just biding my time

I couldn't imagine it being at the salary you retire at. If you work there 25-30 years and take very little vacation, you could in theory rack up 2 years salary depending on what anniversary you get your 5 weeks.

Sitting on about 400 hours of "roll-over" vacation time. I am not complaining at all. I never had any issues with work-life balance. I also consider myself lucky to be in the position I'm in as I understand not everyone is as fortunate. We get 4 and we are forced to take them every year. I didn't like that at first but now I love being forced to use all my time every year.

So it is at your salary when you leave but there is a cap (which I believe is like 3 months worth)

You might be able to code some cool stuff, but there are a lot of industry best practices, etc that you can only get through E&E. Yeah, but at the same time I'll take someone who has put their time in, held different roles, can see the big picture, and is brilliant vs someone who put in the time to go to school and worked for a few years and doesn't have the same level of skills. There are engineers in Latin America for example who are amazing that haven't been to school.

Yeah, I don't think being forced to take vacation is a bad thing. The only vacation policy I hate is the "unlimited" vacation. It's manipulative and most companies know employees will feel guilty taking a lot of vacation.

Now, if you want to take a vacation, you ask. Pretty simple. If you quit, there's no accrued vacation time we need to pay out.

A lot of us have to work weird hours, and log days so it makes sense.

She laughed out loud a lot.
