Welcome to CVON. It's like when Munson tried to teach me about the banking system.

For the record -- I couldn't care less about your job.

My favorite was being lectured by that Mcnabb2Jackson joker about what its like to work for a large IT corporation

He also claimed that he skipped college and went straight to being an engineer

For an unemployed loser stay at home Mom like you, I can see you're really jealous of people who better themselves with education.  😂

That is about as uninformative a smear as you'll read.

How did liberals again do the mental gymnastics to believe that Trump was hiding nuclear secrets and had a Russian passport. Hilarious.

Don't get me wrong. I was really thankful to have an athletic trainer when I was in junior high and didn't know how to tape my own ankle properly.

You guys probably have no idea how many times I have posted about an injury on the eagles or whatever other team, and random people with no medical knowledge would argue with me about it. Its great.

Did you learn what you needed to learn? If not I can continue.

I was told its basically indentured servitude.  No room for work-life balance and you're nothing but a cog in a huge machine.  I never knew!

Why is that strange? Some of the best devs I know  self-taught especially in other countries.

Did you know you can buy "CD"'s from banks?  They don't play music, they give you slightly higher interest rates.  The downside is, you are locked into a term, often a year, and can't cash them out earlier without penalty.

 It's like the complete opposite of that.....if you're really good.

There is a difference between what I consider a developer vs an engineer.

What he was claiming is the equivalent to a teachers aide claiming to be a teacher.  Sure, you help out around the classroom, but you aren't in a glorified babysitter yet.

Why do they leave the vault open, and chain the pens to the counter?

What is the difference in your mind? Yeah, it's experience and knowledge, but that can come with time. Some people have been doing it since they were kids. They can still have the "big picture" in mind.

The vault is open during the day because it would be too cumbersome to close and open it multiple times a day

They chain the pens because the poors steal them

Don't be so poor that you can't give the peasants pens ;)

I get 5 weeks vacation and pretty killer benefits.  But if we are being honest I rarely take close to all 5.  Schmoopie pretty much has to force me to take any vacation, but thats just more me being a bit of a workaholic.  (Says the guy closing in on 70k posts)

I will say this.  When baby girl was born and needed some extended NICU time, they gave me paid leave so we could attend to her.  "They" being I told my boss and unbeknownst to me he took it all the way to the VP to get me this time off.  And that paid leave was outside of the 12 weeks paternity leave I get from them.

Yeah, I get 5 weeks vacation (about 8 weeks cumulative with other time off) and don't take it. Sitting on about 400 hours of "roll-over" vacation time. I am not complaining at all. I never had any issues with work-life balance. I also consider myself lucky to be in the position I'm in as I understand not everyone is as fortunate.

Education and experience.  And if they don't have the degree, a LOT of experience.  More than you can get learning on your own as a kid.  You might be able to code some cool stuff, but there are a lot of industry best practices, etc that you can only get through E&E.

God I wish we had that.  Its use it or lose it.  The only way I can take advantage of unused vacation is if I retire.  If I make it to the end of the year and retire any unused vacation turns into $$$
