yeah someone said he stopped taking coaching there.

But if you listened to his PC, the way he talked about the eagles facility, and the people inside of it being like family sounded like he was implying a crappy culture in NO.

It seems like a change of scenery is very welcomed by him. And I think he is going to feel the love here and be motivated to show out for the fans.

That's not hard to believe.

You are right. In San Fran.

He clearly lost something from his college career. Athleticism seems there. Size is obviously still there. I guess its the mentality.

Hope he is motivated here.

It sounds like he was overthinking things and lost his decisiveness either due to a loss of confidence or just trying to change his running style to fit Shanahan’s vision.

He was easily their worst back in the preseason, but maybe getting into a new system with a better OL will make life easier.

Realistic people fully understand that Hurts will not be the starter for the future. Eagles will not pay him 35-45 mill a year with his limitations at playing QB. He might be on this team next year but its only because he will still be on a low contract. Maybe they trade him, maybe they keep him as a backup. But the future is not bright for Hurts as the Eagles starting QB beyond this year.

Howie has a lot to figure out over the next 12 months. The roster looks good for 2022, but that’s largely because it’s stocked with quality players on one-year deals essentially — Bradberry, CGJ, White and other key FAs to be like Epps, Hargrave, Cox, Sanders (if he even counts), Kelce (likely to retire obviously) and Edwards.

We have some natural replacements on the roster like Davis, Dean, Jurgens, but that’s still a lot of players to extend, re-sign or replace.

And we still don’t have our long-term answer at QB. Howie and s going to have to kill it like he has over the past 12 months.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Eagles defense against the Vikings with JJ, Thielen, Dalvin Cook, etc.  They are the type of team comparable to last year’s Raiders, where Derek Carr went up and down the field at will.  Hopefully the Eagles will slow them down and win handily at home.

Week 1 vs the Lions doesn’t hold the same intrigue for me.  The Eagles won’t win 44-6 like last year, but that game shouldn’t be a one-score decision.

Jordan Davis against whoever the Vikings C is will be hilarious.

For some reason, Kirk Cousins always plays well against us.

It’s not difficult. Serena grew up angry. Her father was angry, her sister was angry, and she was angry. With good reason.
Tennis was once a "gentleman’s” sport. No longer. And "gentleman” here is code for white. What Althea Gibson went through, or Arthur Ash, Serena went through as well. On-court antics didn’t start with her. Connors and especially MacEnroe were far more blatant than she. But they were white and their behavior was somehow loveable.

McEnroe was hated when he played, probably more than any other player.  He came off as a spoiled rich kid with no manners or respect.  His public perception has changed since he’s been a broadcaster.  You’re right about Connors, though.  He had very few detractors.

You make an interesting point about the Williams’ upbringing, but yet I’ve always liked Venus Williams.

It's not that Serena is likable per se. It's that other people (not saying you) tend to excuse the unlikeable qualities in men or people of another race.  People in philly loved the 93 Phillies and they were mainly horrible human beings.

This is true.  But, most of that horribleness just wasn't accessible like it is today.   Today, we know these people much more than 30 years ago.  The internet has changed that.

Dykstra's antics were mostly invisible.  He was disgusting to see, but we didn't understand how deep it went.

Off topic…

But watching this video pisses me off so much. Is this our world now or do Mets fans just suck total ass. Maybe it’s both. They are literally just standing there with very little emotion looking through their phones. Seriously, what in the actual ffuucckk.

The fans should be going ape $hit. Jumping up and down like maniacs in sombreros, chugging tequila, chanting whatever cool nickname they gave him. Crazy.

What a disappointment.

F Mets fans, but that was awesome. If baseball did more stuff like this I’d probably watch more often.

Yankees fans used to go nuts when Mariano Rivera came out to Metallica, that dude was a cold blooded killer.

Mets fans are like hey look I I have a little tiny trumpet...😒

Please note that I am not suggesting that those who dislike her are racist. Quite the contrary. There’s a lot to dislike. I would just argue that a lot of what many dislike is a product of what she had to deal with all her life. And, as someone pointed out, she’s an individual and thus unsheltered by a team identity. All the warts are there to be seen and, because of who she is, they are magnified.

To my mind the greatest woman tennis player ever and it’s not close.

To understand it is one thing, to condone it, or even glorify it, is another.

I was done with Serena when she threatened to shove a ball up the arse of a linesman.

   That's a 15 yard penalty on a football field, imo.  Was there a penalty assessed for that?

He lost his spot to Brooks at OU and transferred to OSU.  Brooks has better vision but both are very similar runners athletically. Sermon was overdrafted because he was running at OSU against teams that weren’t great at stopping the run.  Now the interesting thing about both Brooks and Sermon in college is they both excelled with QBs that were threats when they ran. Wonder if being paired with Hurts might actually be a better mix.  Fact that the 49ers with Lance gave up is a bit of a concern but I suspect Sermon doesn’t fit well with their motion.

That should have been a 3-6 month suspension from the sport; instead, the WTA allowed her to continue in her doubles draw and win a title as punishment.

One would think they should have had the "balls” to stand up to her

I saw that the other night and thought the exact same thing.  EVERY person looking through their phone rather than living the moment.  Like you said, the place should be going WILD.  I was expecting a sudden turn of crowd enthusiasm but nothing.  It's embarrassing.

Most of the people I saw were recording with their phones, not blankly staring.  Not sure what you guys are looking at   I hate the Mets too but this is a stretch

That's what I meant but even in doing that you really aren't embracing the moment.  Stand, cheer, go wild.  Instead, you have one eye on your phone making sure you capture the moment as crappy as possible that you'll never watch again while the other eye is on the live action.

My dad and I go to lots of airshows.  I'm a nerd about it.  We've see the same acts plenty of times.  My dad, ever since I was a kid, loved to record moments.  At airshows he still does and I tell him to enjoy just being there and watching it LIVE.  Not worry about getting a great shot.  Maybe his enjoyment comes from doing the recording I don't know.

Seeing a lot of "experts” picking the Eagles to make the Super Bowl. If the Eagles do in fact make it there, which I can’t see happening, does Hurts get his extension no matter his play?

Probably, then we become the Philadelphia 49ers

Surprised Lee Corso is still doing college gameday.  He's just kinda there.

Yeah no ish. Do you know how different the game is now compared to it was when Navratilova played?  That’s like comparing Aaron Donald with the guy who played both sides of the ball and painted houses in the off-season in the 60s.  Nadal, Federer, or Djokovic would also beat any champ from the 80s or before 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.

Serena hasn’t had a competitive edge in years, and it has always been obvious.

As a preface to my comment below, I'd like to thank everyone who has commented on the Serena topic this morning and last night for keeping the discussion civil and constructive.  Reasonable people can agree to disagree reasonably, and this discussion is evidence that despite differences of opinion, some very strongly held, we can do that here in the Blog.

With that said ...

What happened to your competitive edge when you had a baby?

... or parented a now 5 year old child for the first 5 years of that child's life?

What alternative approach to her tennis would you have used if you were her?

Go figure that you would actively cheer for someone who is objectively a piece of garbage as a human being with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

That is an interesting statement ... care to enlighten us as to how you arrived at that bottom-line.
