It would be very, very hard for the Eagles to miss the playoffs.  Hurts will be better than last year, albeit still Hurts.  The rest of the team is significantly more talented with fewer holes.  The schedule is the same joke as last year and playoff entry remains very diluted.

beating the eagles is simple, load the box, 8 in the box and make hurts beat you with his arm, tampa proved that in the blowout in the playoffs last year

Very much agree. I think the commanders are their main competition this year in the division. Giants are the giants. Cowpokes may have to rely on a 40 year old Jason Peters to anchor their LT for the whole season and the rest of their OL isn’t looking so good either.

Who knows how Wentz is going to perform, but they have a well rounded team.

Why are you acting normal?

Unfortunately, I think 4000 comes down to a scheme issue. A run-focused offense with a bend-but-don't break defensive scheme creates offense limitations. We still do not really know what the Eagles offensive or defensive identity is, although there are some hints. I just don't see 4000 yards with Hurts both from talent and scheme-wise.

OK...off to my annual trek to SF for the Phillies game. Got good seats with 1st row down behind the Phillies dugout, I hope the bats show up today.

Have fun at the game. I went to the 12-3 beat down on this road trip so hopefully they show up today and actually play well for you. Bats and the pitching.

That’s simple for a good team.  For half our schedule, 8 in the box against our OL and a qb that can run…we’ll still end up with enough points to win.

which is what this season comes down to.  How do they look against good teams? They struggled on both offense & defense when facing quality last season

I'm skeptical of Hurts QB skills but are people really that much against him that they view the Eagles making the SB with him as some negative scenario?

Making the Super Bowl clearly is not a negative scenario. The negative scenario to me would be using it as justification to give Hurts a long term, $40ish million dollar per year contract if his play didn’t earn it. They aren’t going to be able to build up the team around him like they did this year if he gets paid, so he’s going to have to elevate the team himself going forward to close the gap.

Finding a franchise QB is very hard, yes. Finding an average starter though, isn’t. So I’d much rather take a shot at a finding that stud instead of sticking long term with someone that’s just average.

The Eagles are not making the SB, lol. Anyone talking SB really are just morons at this point. They are a 8-9 win team. Maybe 1 or 2 more if they get the luck they did last year playing teams that had the covid and injury bug.

I don’t think the Cowboys are that good but they have been smoking us the last two years. Even though we rested starters Week 18, I don’t think we would win that game if we tried. Eagles added lots of talent and theoretically closed some or all the gap between them, but I need to see them at least look competitive in a game against them first before writing them off.

Yankees fans suck too and are highly obnoxious as well. But at least they can claim to have won a title in the 2000s. Mets fans every time they are good they’ll say it is their year. Get obnoxious. And then ultimately lose in depressing fashion. Haven’t won since 86 like cowboys it’s 96. Twitter this year since the Mets are doing well has been what cowboys fans did when they were good in 2014, 2016 and last year.

Good points, and now that I think about the comparison the Mets and Cowboys both have a very similar history in the 21st century.

Yankees-Cowboys-Lakers are still the holy trinity of obnoxious fans though.

That's the thing. If Hurts isn't good this year then the Eagles won't win more than 10 games. They do not have the 49ers defense from a few years ago. Somehow people went from saying Marcus Epps could go to considering him a good starter without him playing a down. And there are other examples, Edwards, Sweat, etc. Nice players but no one is confusing them with All Pros.

For this team to win 11+ and advance in the playoffs Hurts has to be good in all the most likely scenarios. I totally understand people not thinking that will happen but preemptively making excuses if it does seems a bit weak

Oh for sure. I’d add Boston fan in any sport. Actually have a friend who’s a Boston fan from the Boston area. actually cool and isn’t like most Boston fans. But even he agrees they are a bunch of dbags for the most part.

i used to hate lakers fans even more. But I live in Arizona and the amount of Suns fans that began to talk crap as they never won anything in the NBA has made me hate their Fanbase as much. Like the last two years suns’ fans have gotten so cocky and running their mouths. Then luka owned them and they all cried and got upset. I like the suns players but their owner and fan base makes it so i don’t want to see them win crap.

As a preface to my comment below, I'd like to thank everyone who has commented on the Serena topic this morning and last night for keeping the discussion civil and constructive.  Reasonable people can agree to disagree reasonably, and this discussion is evidence that despite differences of opinion, some very strongly held, we can do that here in the Blog.

With that said ...

What happened to your competitive edge when you had a baby?

_97790491_serena.jpg

... or parented a now 5 year old child for the first 5 years of that child's life?

f73aa8091c6d5c18a1a101300b25aa8f

What alternative approach to her tennis would you have used if you were her?

You’re a strange one. Nothing I said was uncivil. It was just a strong opinion that you didn’t agree with. That’s fine and I’ll respect that.  I think Serena lost her competitive edge long before she had a child which is why I think she could have won 40+ majors if she truly dedicated herself to the sport instead of her brand. She also repeatedly acted like a total a-hole almost every time she played with glaring and embarrassing occurrences.

Did Trent Dilfer get one no matter his play when the Ravens won it all in 2000?

Idk how comparable the NFL is today vs 22 years ago though

When it comes to QB, it's still pretty much the same.  Either you have a guy that you believe in, or you don't.   Even after Dilfer was the QB that played during the Super Bowl year, the Ravens never believed he was 'the guy', so they let him walk via free agency.

That is exactly what I said in my comment you quoted ... "I'd like to thank everyone who has commented on the Serena topic this morning and last night for keeping the discussion civil and constructive."  I also agree that what you expressed was a strong opinion, and I asked you to help me understand where that strong opinion was coming from.

I do agree that her behavior in recent years has had some glaring examples of poor behavior.  How frequent those examples were is an interesting question to contemplate ... especially in the context of comparative examples like Connors, McEnroe, Nastase, and more currently Kyrgios.  As was pointed out by @Iggles_Phan the media coverage that we get now amplifies both the frequency and amplitude of any player's outbursts.  It has also been pointed out that the real culprit is the WTA because it chooses to turn a blind eye to the behavior.

Now we get to the most interesting part of your comment, "I think Serena lost her competitive edge long before she had a child which is why I think she could have won 40+ majors if she truly dedicated herself to the sport instead of her brand."  There is a lot that I don't understand in that comment.   On April 19, 2017, Williams revealed that she was 20 weeks pregnant and would miss the remainder of the season. Olivia was born September 1, 2017.  With that as backdrop, how did Serena do in the Majors prior to April 2017?

Australian Open 2015   Champion
French Open 2015   Champion
Wimbledon 2015   Champion
US Open 2015   Semi Finalist
Australian Open 2016   Runner-up
French Open 2016   Runner-up
Wimbledon 2016   Champion
US Open 2016   Semi Finalist
Australian Open 2017   Champion

How is that evidence that she lost "lost her competitive edge long before she had a child"?

Even more puzzling to me is your statement, "I think she could have won 40+ majors if she truly dedicated herself to the sport instead of her brand."  I don't understand the importance of the goal of 40+ majors, and why shouldn't she at age 35+ be lauded for devoting attention to what she would do in her life after tennis?  Isn't creating a business and a brand a core principle of The American Dream?  Can you help me out of my confusion?

In closing, I readily accept the fat that I am a strange one.  It has been that way for close to 75 years.

Finally I would like to repeat my thanks to everyone who has commented on this Serena topic for a civil and constructive discussion.
