When it comes to QB, it's still pretty much the same.  Either you have a guy that you believe in, or you don't.   Even after Dilfer was the QB that played during the Super Bowl year, the Ravens never believed he was 'the guy', so they let him walk via free agency.

Which is what I think the Eagles will do ... unless Howie finds a team to trade Hurts to.

I get the comp if they win the super bowl comp with dilfer if it played out the same way where really the defense carried that team with a strong running attack.

I actually think the comparison with the eagles could be the 49ers from a couple years ago. Heck they won 2 playoff games throwing it 27 times and completing just 17 passes as the roster was extremely good and Jimmy G was a good Qb but not great. I believe we differ on the ceiling of hurts. I think he’s capable of reaching top 15 (11-15 range for me).

However i also think as games get bigger in the playoffs that the Qb play has to be better and elevate particularly throwing the ball in critical times. I struggle to see him making enough throws when he’s going to need too. Similar to Jimmy G in the super bowl in crunch time. Mahomes made throws when it was the biggest moment and Jimmy G missed throws at times late in the game when the niners needed him to step up. Last year against the rams in the nfc title game i thought Jimmy G’s inability to make the play/throw in crunch time got them. To start the second half Jimmy g was 7-12 for 98 yards and a td. When the niners needed him to make throws tied 17-17 and down 20-17 in the last 2 possessions he was 1-6 for -3 and an int. it’s why they drafted trey lance last year and moving to him this year.

I’ve been thinking about this…

If we draft a QB and Howie offers hurts like 5-6m to be the experienced backup after next year… What team offers him more?

Chase Daniel, Foles, Mark Sanchez; Howie likes backups that have started a lot of games, and he’s willing to pay for it

Some team desperate for something with some buzz at QB will definitely offer more than $6M to be the starter.

I see, Tyrod Taylor type journeyman?

Dilfer spent one year in Bal in the middle of his career. He started 8 games and threw for 1500 yards. Bal had an all time great defense.  It's really not a great comparison point

I think Hurts is better than Taylor, but not by a ton. But, there'll a market for him, no doubt.  Seattle, for example, this year would much rather have him than what they currently have, IMO.  Possibly even Carolina.

Hurts will more than likely not view himself as only a backup.  As a result he will seek out starting opportunities with other teams, and I believe that several GMs will see him as a viable possibility as their team's QB.

Perfectly good comparison.   The question was, "What if the Eagles win the Super Bowl with Hurts no matter how he plays?"    Dilfer was obviously not the reason they won the Super Bowl.  In fact, that offense was historically bad.  Something like 8 or 9 straight games without an offensive TD, etc.

No matter how Hurts plays... meaning, if he's just going along for the ride, like Dilfer did, he doesn't get an extension.  It was absolutely the extreme case, but for a purpose.  There is a minimum requirement needed for Hurts to play in order to get an extension, even if the team wins the Super Bowl, IMO.  He needs to be better than that.

Thing with tyrod Taylor got more than $6 mil per year twice in his career. He signed a 5 year $90 mil with 9.5 mil guaranteed from the bills in 2016. But then the following offseason with the bills signed/restructured a 2 year $30 mil with $15.5 mil guaranteed. It wasn’t until he left Buffalo that his salary went into the range you are talking about. I tend to think hurts is better than Taylor so he’ll have a better market plus increase in price at the QB position helps hurts.

@LeanMeanGM

i just have trouble believing that Hurts resolves his biggest issues of speed of reading and pulling the trigger quickly.  Will result in a lot of short passes.  I also need to be convinced he can use the whole field. Six reps in preseason doesn’t do the trick for me.  Dickerson already lost time in TC and I worry about relying on Seumalo to stay healthy. There is a drop off to Opeta and Driscoll.  The Eagles are light in depth at RB and TE.  Sermon is not the answer. WR is upgraded some.  I also have real doubts that the LBs are that much improved outside of Reddick at SAM.  The DEs are the same plus the return of BG. Bradberry is an upgrade over Nelson but I am not sure Epps is an upgrade and CGJ is unproven as a starting S.  Wallace or Blakenship are a downgrade at S from Epps.  I just cannot buy into the Super Bowl hype, no matter how "weak” their schedule is.  (Weak last season doesn’t necessarily mean weak this season.).

Prediction:  7 wins, 10 losses.

Eagles will improve in sacks this season from bad to mediocre.

Iowa lost to NDSU a few years ago (Wentz I believe?) now they’re in danger of losing to SDSU

Do you believe Jurgens won’t get time at G if 1-2 go down?

Nope.  I think the back up Gs are Opeta, Driscoll and Sills in that order.

Driscoll is tricky… he’s currently the backup swing tackle as well with Dillard out right?

Maybe they preserve him in case of tackle issues

Have a friend who played for South Dakota state (ironically also named Dallas lol). He said they were going to be really good this year. Thinks they’ll beat NDSU in the title game.

i actually think SDSU and NDSU this year are better than a good portion FBS teams in the pac, big 12 and acc. Arizona faces NDSU next week. az is gonna get blast imo.

I’m an NDSU alum; I agree with your second paragraph and balk at your first

Tbh he’s SDSU alum and former player so he’d say that. I think they are the two best teams in FCS this year.

i would actually take Arizona against San Diego state this weekend if it wasn’t the first game in that stadium in San Diego. Just cause of everything surrounding sdsu. Arizona actually has a lot of momentum building in the program so i think first game they’ll play inspired. But i can’t. If they do i See a major emotional letdown as Arizona doesn’t know how to come back from success yet and NDSU is really good anyway and would beat them.

If you guys aren’t watching the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert, Alex and Geddy just came and and absolutely wrecked shop.  Absolute f’ing legends @TorontoEagle

We have a 4 game winning streak going against the FBS, including a ranked team. Arizona better be ready

Arizona could be ready and still not win lol. Sumlin really did a number on the program. Left it as one of the worst in the power 5 conference. At least with rich rod they were consistently competitive and every couple years really good. Based off what i was told sumlin stopped giving a crap half way through and had a massive drinking problem to the point they nearly fired him before his last game. It was going to take Arizona at least 3 years to get them back to just beating mediocre and that’s if they got the right hire.

also was told Arizona wants to go to big 12. board of regents doesn’t want them to leave without asu. Asu wants to see what happens and dragging its feet to see where the chips fall. But it’s been well known if big 10 offers Oregon, Stanford and Washington an invite to the conference over the next couple years they are going to bolt. It’s really a matter of if big 10 wants them and then when. Most believe out here big 10 wants Stanford, Oregon and Washington. Oregon has always been good recruiting but really stepped up its game in terms of recruiting/NIL the past couple months basketball wise especially trying to make it look even more attractive. So Arizona is trying to be proactive and get to big 12 but isn’t willing to be the first domino as of right now and really hard time with the ABOR leaving asu.

You’re a strange one. Nothing I said was uncivil. It was just a strong opinion that you didn’t agree with. That’s fine and I’ll respect that.  I think Serena lost her competitive edge long before she had a child which is why I think she could have won 40+ majors if she truly dedicated herself to the sport instead of her brand. She also repeatedly acted like a total a-hole almost every time she played with glaring and embarrassing occurrences.

you're a strange one pal, Im the only one stranger

I don’t know if that’s what he’s saying but I would say, yes, it’s different for a woman. There are physical changes when a woman bears a child that a man, obviously, does not undergo.

The unc qb has made some clutch plays. Could have a very high ceiling

I hope App beats them
