They got lucky Watson chose CLE, and they ate $40.5M to get rid of Matt Ryan -- which looks like the right move as of now and will look even better when he's off the books for 2023.

 it was he ultimate dumb luck situation for atlanta. But it’s going to look great for them in the long run.

Colts owner wants to be a contender and doesn't want to wait. Wouldn't surprise me if Frank is fired if they don't make the playoffs

Can you blame him - he looks like he's living on borrowed time...

I've been a big Hurts defender all year (so far, so good), but no way should we give him 40M per year. The whole point of the offense is having a great OL/Skill position group. You can't have all of that...and an expensive QB. If Hurts wants a middle-class deal (ex: 20M) fine, otherwise he hasn't shown nearly enough to justify that kind of contract. Franchise QBs win without exceptional talent around them.

Will he be expecting a contract this season? This offseason? I'm not liking what Im seeing from the 2023 QB class so far so in an ideal world we keep him on his rookie deal next year as well.

Idk that’s the market rate if he winds up playing like he did last night all year. I said the same thing when they were going after Russell Wilson and Watson. You’re going to have to pay the quarterback at sometime unless you’re just gonna draft one high every 4 to 5 years. it’s an inevitability if you have a really good QB then it’s coming. That’s why being good at drafting is really vital.

Another strange week for predictions. There were 10 people who nailed the Eagles score on the nose (including myself). The problem is all but one had them losing and the Vikings putting up 30+.

So the win goes to @MillerTime, predicting a 27-17 win.

Bonus winners:

@Aerolithe_Lion Cousins less than 100 yards passing at halftime

@BigEFly Sweat sack

@Next_Up Cousins throws 2+ picks

@Swoop Hurts turnover

If he is going to be legitimately in the race, he's going to have to up his stats. He's on pace for 33 TD's (mostly running). Allen is on pace for 68.

I think Allen and Mahomes are clear favorites.  As much as I would like Hurts to blossom into a prolific passer, he has had one good game against what looked to be an above average team.  Maybe he will throw for 5TDs against the Commanders but it hasn't happened yet.

He can't get a contract this season, but this offseason. 1000% yes. And as a player, he should be. Whether he gets it or deserves it, is a different question.

I have been and still are one of those that's been taking a wait and see approach with Hurts. However, this game he showed some real progress and did some things that many thought he would never be capable of. I believe that should change the whole narrative from questioning his ability to one of consistency. It has for me anyway. I think last night's performance showed he has the ability to be a starting QB. I think the only question that now remains is can he do it on a consistent basis.

I don’t think Howie’s in the market for extending middling QBs. It’s one thing to start him while we’re in a QB lull, it’s another entirely to purposefully extend that QB lull.

Either he earns that 40m$+ AAV extension (I think he’d need 6-7 more games like yesterday for us to consider it), or he plays out his rookie deal and we move on. I would be surprised if there was an in-between.

Probably. Hurts on a rookie deal is very valuable.

Howie jumped the gun on Wentz; I'm more optimistic that he'll be cautious with Hurts.

Yup.  I can't imagine his agent advising him to walk into OTAs next spring without a commitment from the organization.  He's due to make about $1.9M next season and it would seem pretty dumb to risk injury when the market rate for a starting QB contract extension is currently around $45M AAV

I would be more surprised if he played out his rookie deal than an in-between. I think if he's going to start next year and they are reluctant to extend him, they will at the least give him a pay bump.

Depends on what kinda Hurts we get the rest of the season. If he plays like he did last night all season and even into next season(if they don't extend him) then he'll be MVP caliber and of course you extend him. If he regresses to the mean and starts playing like last season again, then you don't give him the big money.

My guess is still that Howie is keeping a serious eye on the QBs in the draft.  I am sure they like what they see from Hurts so far this season.  If he plays like last night for the majority of the season and they make a deep run in the playoffs, I am not sure what the Eagles do.  I don't think there is room for a mid-range QB deal for Hurts.  If you're Hurts, why take $20 million a season when the franchise tag is around $30 million. Conversly, why offer Hurts that kind of money when you do not think he can bring the team a Championship.  The team can get competent play from a bridge QB like Minshew for much cheaper than $20 million.  Just draft a QB and move on from Hurts if he's not worth an elite deal.  On the other hand, if he plays this team into real contention then the team has to seriously consider giving him a top 5-10 QB deal.  Keep in mind, it will be cheaper to get that extension after this season vs. after an above average type of season in 2023.

I liked what I saw last night but I think it's way too early to be discussing extending him let alone what sort of contract he deserves.

Oh Lord.   Wentz, Hurts, Tatergeddon returns.

He's been playing good and hopefully he keeps it up.  But he needs to increase his TD passes.   He has 1 thru two games.

Once they get in the RZ it's basically they are going to pound it with the run game or Hurts will run it in.  He needs to use all his weapons down there especially Goedert.  Can't see them giving him a big deal if he has less than 20 TD passes.

Brown on a slant in the red zone seems to easy and obvious, but they are not doing it.

I set things up the board participates in, I have run the EMB mock off-season for ( it’s been so long, @Ray75 6 years, 10 years, I don’t even remember ).

You are a poster, I am a contributor.

Closing in on 10, my friend. 👊🏻

It really depends what the team's red zone percentage is.  As long as opponents let Hurts walk into the end zone (the Lions defense on Hurts' TD run was atrocious) there isn't a lot of need to throw it.

If Hurts believes he has performed well enough to get top tier money, why would his agent advise him to take less than that? If the Eagles think he is worth that, why not pay him? I don't see a scenario where Hurts holds out at the beginning of the season.
