Unless you can pull of a trade for someone better with a few years of control, I would be fine with Nola at 6/150

I would do 5 years for Nola while keeping the money the same. I know the AAV would be a tad higher but man, I just hate giving pitchers more than 5 years and even that's a stretch for me. Heck, I would offer 4/150 but I know Middleton/ Dombrowski won't do that. Josh Hader getting 6 years as a closer?

Why everyone who keeps mentioned go get hader it’s not gonna happen. The Phillies usually don’t like giving BP arms more than 3 years. They aren’t going 6 for hader.

I’m with you on the nola front. Why i said I’d do 5 for 150-160. The avv is higher but i get out an entire year earlier likely when he’s hit deep decline. Like you said I’d rather do 4. That’s ideal but not way nola is doing less than 6 cause some team is gonna overpay

Yeah it'll be interesting to see what he gets. If I'm the Phillies, I'd offer the 5/150 to see if he bites. If another team offers more in money and or years, buh bye. At least they can say they offered him a competitive deal.

If there is a team that would take him, even it its just a bullpen arm, I would do it in a heartbeat. What's his chase rate gonna be this year? 50%? He's fun to watch when he's on but he seems to have way more cold streaks than hot.

And I get the sense good pitchers in the playoffs know his swing chasing tendencies and use it to their advantages. The Diamondbacks made him look silly.

First, when I went back and listened to Dave Dombrowski talk after they lost to the Diamondbacks, he blatantly talked about Chase rate and things that Castellanos does not do well. He put it out there for a reason. I think there’s part of Dombrowski that looks at the last two seasons and says if Nick Castellanos was able to protect Harper better and was the player they thought when he signed him we might’ve beat the Astros in the World Series and probably would’ve gotten back to the World Series if Castellanos wasn’t so awful outside of 1 at bat. This doesn’t take away from kimbrel being bad, thomson’s decisions or from Turner not being very good, but if Castellanos was the player who they signed to protect Bryce harper in that lineup, there’s a realistic chance the Phillies might have pulled off that World Series and played for another one against the Rangers as he sees more pitches to hit. I will guarantee there’s part of Dave Dombrowski that believes that.

Second, the reason why I keep saying, I’d rather have Rhys Hoskins than Nick Castellanos is for these reasons. hoskins has a better walk rate, a better at bat approach, he sees the most pitches in baseball, and his Chase rate is not nearly as bad as Nick Castellanos. I get Rhys playing first base is not fun or good. But I can live with that. If his bat and his just approach can be more helpful to the Phillies than casty. And that’s not saying rhys doesn’t have his fault. Cause he goes into slumps . The difference though in his slumps, he usually is giving you quality at bats that makes the pitchers work. When Nick Castellanos goes into a slump, he’s just swinging at everything and an easy out in the lineup. And Nick Castellanos isn’t exactly a great fielder. He has no errors, but he also has doesn’t have good range it’s why his run differential is bad. He can’t get to the ball because he’s not quick enough or not good enough defender. Now if you put Harper out there, I think you actually improve your defense. Which doesn’t make up for the lack of defense at 1b but at least we improved in rf

I said this the other day and I still believe it If I can get off Castellanos contract, I do it just to get off the money before he declines even more. I bring rhys back on a one-year contract as boras wants that so rhys can go into 2025 FA and cash out when he’s healthy. And then I go look at the FA market and try to get one left fielder for a one-year contract. The guy that makes sense hitting wise is JD Martinez. can he play LF? He’s not great and not done it much the past 2 years. but he’s never been as bad schwarber. He’s a quality bat in the lineup. only have to sign up for one year because he’s 36 and he’s not getting more than that at this stage of his career. That lineup is much better than the one with just Nick Castellanos and Bryce Harper.

If I’m a team in the playoffs next year i don’t throw castellanos a strike. He will swing and miss sometimes at those but chance he goes yard or gets a hit. I only throw balls. He’s impatient and will get himself out frequently as he gets frustrated or over anxious.

The time to do it is now. He’s coming off what appears to be a good season. Somebody will take that contract. it’s $10 mil more than what the mccutchen contract we gave in 2018 and imo he was still more productive then mccutchen and less decline. It’s not an awful contract but you don’t want to be a contending team and be stuck in a $20 million money hole on your roster in 2025 and 2026.

So the team is already said harper is playing first.......

They should be looking to move Schwarber and Castellanos for anything they can. The production from those two is not worth their salaries.

If they could actually move them it frees up money for another bat/outfielder.

Then let the DH position be a resting place for some of these guys.

They aren’t trading schwarber for the fact he is a great locker room guy and he makes only 19.8 mil a season the next two years. Especially when you look at what FAs are out there. Not replacing schwarber and castellanos with what’s available. Unless you are signing Ohtani which isn’t happening.

Here’s your best FAs to replace castellanos and schwarber:  bellinger, gurriel jr, Chapman (move bohm to first and harper DH),  teoscar Hernandez (essentially castellanos), JD Martinez, Kevin Kiermaier, soler (basically schwarber), Turner, bader, joc pederson, Duvall, Pham and renfroe.

Only one there that’s a legitimate upgrade is bellinger. Could go bellinger and JD Martinez but you’d be spending a fortunate in bellinger in years and money that likely takes you out of any chance on soto. JD Martinez better hitter but less power than schwarber. Chapman makes sense if we go full time platoon with harper and bohm playing some first. But still need to fix the outfield and frankly it’s not great options as not signing Chapman, bellinger and then adding another bat. Frankly don’t see bellinger leaving Chicago

Feels like damage control because they didn’t want it out  otherwise you’d have thought it would’ve come out yesterday denied that they were trading him when it was pretty loud and circulating

and to the fans that like this on twitter really piss me off, like i have to ask this question, after being embarrassed by a weak dbacks team and failed to win a world series last year, has the fanbase have just gotten so weak that they refuse to hold anyone accountable? i get so angry because i want to win so badly and the fans make weak and lously excuses for players that keep pissing away championships it's like when you start caring about winning championships and not caring about players?

im not players fan, im a winning mentality type of fan, i dont care who gets the boot, i just want to win a freaking championship and that's it, if that player cant do it he's gone, no excuses.

He knows how to use the wood

Yes, it would be even better if Thomson tried taking him out and he threw the ball into ashburn alley
