Sorry we have walker. No room for him

Moving Turnbull to the pen was definitely the right move - there's no way he would have made it to the ASG.

The guy hasn't pitched more than 57 innings since 2019 and he is already at 40.1 innings.  We all saw what happened to Michael Lorenzen last year down the stretch - the wheels fell off, and he had a history of more innings pitched and less of an injury history than Turnbull.

I think he's more important to this team as a long man and that had more to do with moving him to the pen than Walker's contract.

If there's a move to be made, they'll make it - they have proven that.   I wouldn't be surprised if we flipped Walker in a secondary deal at the deadline for a low level prospect after we acquire someone for the rotation.

I disagree because I don’t know how much I’m gonna get from Turnbull even putting him in the bullpen. And you’ve seen he’s not as good out of the bullpen. So I’m gonna use him being fantastic for as much he gives me before the wheels fall off and.or gets hurts. no timetable of how much you’re gonna get out of him. And he’s not gonna be back next year if he wind up being really good or if he gets hurt. It sounds bad, but I’m running him into the ground for as long as I can because there’s a ticking time bomb on that guy that he’s going to get hurt. you’re not maximizing him as a bullpen guy cause he’s shown you he’s not been as consistent. So I might as well get as much as I can out of him as a starter rather than hope for him to stay healthy all year and at the end. Frankly we trade for a BP arm at the deadline he’s likely not being used very much at the end of the year or playoffs anyway

Depends on what the package we have to give up. I like bader. He’d definitely help and is an improvemwnt. but I’m not giving up Abel, painter, Crawford or Aidan miller for him. Those guys are untouchable unless I’m getting someone like Kyle Tucker

Given Tucker’s contract status, it isn’t out of the question to have him in DD’s sights given the Astros W-L record.

Yep. It’s why it’s been rumored. They might trade them. But just need the Astros to not be in contention at the deadline. Or far enough out if they don’t think they’re gonna make it. That’s why I think it’s a realistic possibility if the Astros aren’t within striking distance of a postseason birth that you could see the Phillies go all in on him. He’s worth going all in on.

It’s great the entire team has forgotten how to Fing hit a baseball. jt on 3-2 sits there at a pitch down the middle of the strike zone. Like you have to be aggressive in that situation even if it’s not what you were expecting. That pitch should’ve been crushed

part of the reason why the Phillies have such struggles in San Francisco, is because it’s not a homer hitters Park. You have to play small ball. Singles doubles and bringing guys home that way. The Phillies struggle a lot of the times when there to do that.

Pretty sure we are getting shutout in this game tonight with how our at bats look

realmuto with a boneheaded base running decision. No reason with no outs to go on a grounder to the left side of the infield. Especially when the shortstop had no chance to get Harper at first and his only play was to 3rd

You knew after the first time through the lineup they weren’t going to score in that game. That was as pathetic of a hitting performance as they’ve had the last 2 years.

Said this last year and I will say it this year, they are a bat short in their lineup. When they lost  Hoskins last year, they never made up for it. And you could see it in their lineup at points in the season. It really showed in the dbacks series. They go into too Many stretches where they are just awful with RISP and rely way too much on HRs. Like i said back in April they also could use a legitimate cleanup hitter. Bohm has filled that role so far but i don’t think he’s best suited for it. And if Castellanos sucks and Rojas isn’t ready yet, then your lineup is very dependent on your other 7 guys to not slump. If 1-2 other guys do then you have half a lineup. It’s why i was against just running it back and assuming Castellanos and Rojas would be good enough

Was thinking of this the other day, the other point is that Turnbull has zero chance of starting a game in the playoffs. He will come out of the bullpen, so you might as well get him adjusted to it all season so he can be confident in the playoffs as a good bullpen arm.

No offense walker has absolutely zero chance of starting a game in the playoffs and will come out of the pen. So this exact argument could be made for Walker. Add on so far turnbull has a 6.75 ERA and opponents are hitting .353 against him as a RP. So that experiment isn’t working and Walker as a 5th isn’t working either.

Wrong,

Walker has zero chance of coming out of the pen in the playoffs or starting a game in the playoffs.

Turnbull isn’t going to be used out of the pen if his era as a reliever is 6.75 and guys are hitting .353 against him. Frankly they shouldn’t use Soto and Dominguez for that reason but they will cause they trust them out of the pen (even though they shouldn’t) and due to their past experience out of the pen. I’d also guess Orion’s downfall in the nlcs last year will be in their thinking about a guy with little MLB RP experience and just using them in that type of atmosphere. I think there was probably a lesson learned from that

Let me just point this out he’s been in the league since 2018, the last time he was a reliever was in 2018 and it was for 1 game. So you’re asking a guy who hasn’t done it since his rookie season, 7 seasons ago to just adjust midseason doing it and expecting he’s just going to figure it out or be good in a role he’s likely not best suited for or trained for his entire career and offseason

so you would be WRONG too if he’s going suck out of the bullpen like he has, has no experience doing so in his career and the adjustment is as simple as just a couple of times a month transitioning and they’ll just trust using him out of the pen in a playoff game unless it’s a blowout.

Also point out if the Phillies make a trade for a RP at the deadline your bullpen for the postseason is very likely going to be Dominguez (unfortunately), Soto (unfortunately), Alvarado, strahm, kerkering, Hoffman, marte (if healthy was good this year), RP traded for and Sanchez (depending on how the series plays out). Add Nola, Ranger and wheeler that’s 12 pitchers. So can have 13 pitchers. It’s gonna come down to Ruiz, Walker or Turnbull. right now Ruiz has looked the best out of all 3 of those guys out of the pen (and in walker’s case in general). There’s a chance Walker and Turnbull don’t get used and might not even be on the playoff roster if things continue to go this way for Walker and Turnbull out of the pen

Pretty sure the dog can field and hit better than Castellanos and merrifield

Happened in this exact day too. What are the odds

Tired of the Harper disappearing acts, then does not run out the play to first, and who the f is Burrell, that scrub, he should just be happy he has a job and sit his fat arse on the bench
