Most of his Ks have come cause he caught them looking (4 of his 6 Ks) and given up hits when he has gotten ahead due to poor location and guys fouling stuff off
July 7, 20242 yr That Homerun feels like the game. Ranger right now has absolutely no control. He’s leaving things up in the zone and in parts of the plate where it is going to get crushed. When you add that into the fact he can’t get swings and misses right now you are gonna get destroyed. The control is a bigger issue. Pitches up and in the heart of the zone are going to get destroyed against good hitting

Just saying i don’t think that was realistic cause tend to believe they eventually sit him for 2-3 weeks if the lead was big enough. He always misses about 2-4 weeks in a season. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if they IL him after this game and he’s eligible to return after the all star game, he only miss 1 start vs. the A’s and could get up to about 2.5 weeks off

This is the first time he’s really consistently pitched (as a starter) from opening day til right now. He tends to miss time so he looks fresher. I think he’ll be fine just going through a midseason wall. id add the Phillies from opening day til June 9th (with realmuto) was 2.93. It’s been 4.00 (not including tonight) since he’s been out Yeah I called that when JT went down - it’s easy to forget how much a good catcher helps a pitcher by how they call the game. JT is the best at it.
July 7, 20242 yr Marsh is safe if he doesn’t hesitate on contact. Looked like he may have been safe anyway.

I’m guessing they probably would’ve challenged it if they didn’t lose a challenge on the stott tag. Which was ridiculous because even on replay it showed that Ozuna was safe.

I also think part of this problem with Ranger Suarez is he always misses time so he’s clearly hit a wall. The reason why he usually looks fresher down the stretch is because he usually missed like 2 to 4 weeks like almost every year. I wouldn’t be so surprised if Ranger winds up on the 10 day IL after this game. the fact of the matter is he would only miss one start against the A’s. And with the off day Monday the Phillies can actually manage to skip him in the rotation and give him 2.5 weeks off.

July 7, 20242 yr What’s more amazing to me is that going into the series is the Braves had scored five or more runs just twice in their past 12 games. They face the Phillies and they have scored five runs or more in back to back games. They hadn’t done that in 3 weeks.
July 7, 20242 yr The Phillies really should consider skipping ranger Suarez’s next start on Friday. Think he needs some time off. He’s been walker type bad over the last 3 outings. If you do that he could pitch the last game of the opening series after the all star break vs. the pirates which is 15 days from now. You could use Mercado on that Friday start. And you could take Walker off IL vs. A’s and start him on Saturday. And wheeler gets Sunday. It’s not ideal to have Walker as starter but right now ranger has looked like Walker and I kind of think he needs time off. Plus you’re facing the Oakland A’s so Walker should theoretically be good enough to be able to win that start if he is just average.
July 7, 20242 yr New bridge to cross today. Going 3-3 would still be getting the job done but a W today to win both series and go 4-2 despite all the injuries would be the stuff of a championship team. As for Ranger, I’d sit him for three starts and roll the dice with a callup. 1-2 in those three would be worth it.
July 7, 20242 yr Baseball is a loooooong...too long regular season. Suarez had an incredible start and is going through a dip right now. He was never a 100 MPH pitcher with a 10-0 record nor is he a 10 plus ERA 0-2 pitcher.

If you skip his next start (Friday) and don’t start him til the last game of the pirates series that’s 15 days off between starts. Feels like that’s plenty of time off so he isn’t tired. Based of what Thomson said last night feels like he’s hit a wall and is tired

July 7, 20242 yr I like his bat but his fielding is not good. Essentially like putting a slightly better Kyle schwarber or another Castellanos in LF. The reason we moved schwarber to DH was to upgrade defensively in LF. I would be fine with it but i think there’s a hitter out there that’s better defensively so you get both aspects.
July 7, 20242 yr Think it’s a massive mistake if they give up Aiden miller for any of those 3. Particularly Chisholm
