Official Philadelphia Phillies Thread - Still can't hit for crap

That's the main reason I don't want Robert. The team chemistry is a real thing an important thing and this current roster has it in a good way. Don't want to F that up with any player they bring in.

Honestly if it were just talent I’d do the trade. He has a bunch of other stuff. I rather make a deal where we get Bellinger for less and if he opts out then go after Soto. I still think that’s what the Phillies are gearing up towards this offseason. Think he eventually becomes their DH if he leaves the Yankees for the Phillies

Might get Harper back too. Really hoping we can pull out 2 of 3 from the dodgers.

Hopefully with a couple of bats coming back and a little home cooking will get it done

We avoid glasnow so that’s also good. Matchups favor us

Let's hope our pitchers can handle the meat of that dodgers line up. The hitting struggles were expected with the injuries but, the pitching has fallen off a cliff lately with no explanation other than JT being out. In other words I'm more worried about the pitching than the hitting for this series.

The last week in particular they’ve been bad. Frankly i think guys are hitting walls. They’ve pitched a lot of innings so far. I think wheeler and nola are all top 5 in innings pitched in the NL. Suarez is top 10 in the NL. And Sanchez is only 10 IP behind Suarez.

That's true, I know they said on the broadcast of the one game that they led the league in innings pitched for the starters. The bullpen had the least amount of innings pitched. It's great that they are getting so much out of the starters  and not taxing the pen but, like you said they probably hit a wall.

I'm out on any position player besides Kyle Tucker. The other potential targets just aren't significant enough upgrades to what we have, barring some long term injury to a current player on the roster.

Plus, the way this team is built, thank God we have a few decent prospects, we will desperately need these guys in 2-5 years.

That would be very nice but I'm looking more at the overall homestand.  Give me 4-2 and head into the break even if that means having to sweep the A's.

Phillies searching for role players, bullpen depth

The Philadelphia Phillies already did the heavy lifting when John Middleton spent the stupid money required to lure free agents and revive Citizens Bank Park. Dave Dombrowski kept building a roster that now has a franchise-record seven All-Stars. Rob Thomson, a midseason manager replacement in 2022, has guided the club to a National League pennant, Game 7 of last year’s NLCS and the best record in baseball so far this season.

The Phillies don’t have to overpay in the middle of July. Instead, they have the luxury of being able to conserve some energy for October and give certain players more time to develop. Dombrowski recently outlined his view of the trade market in a revealing Q&A with The Athletic’s Matt Gelb, focusing on: "What little thing makes you better at a particular time to win a ballgame versus a certain guy?”

One of Dombrowski’s colleagues marveled at his energy as he approaches his 68th birthday, how Philadelphia’s president of baseball operations still travels with the team on virtually every road trip, giving him a better feel for clubhouse dynamics and a knack for blending old-school philosophies with new ideas.

"There’s a big picture of an organization, but there’s also a picture of why you play the game — it’s to win a championship,” Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber said. "Our guys all know that we have one of the best front offices in all of baseball, the best ownership in baseball, and the best coaching staff. Obviously, we have a really good team. We’ve been close twice now. We all want to get to that finish line. He’s going to do whatever he thinks our team needs to push us to the finish line.”

Dombrowski’s track record at the trade deadline is illustrative. Steve Pearce was not a huge name when Dombrowski acquired the right-handed hitter for the Boston Red Sox in 2018. Pearce had been released twice, claimed off waivers twice and traded once before, but he could thrive in certain matchups and add another element to the lineup. Pearce wound up being Boston’s World Series MVP.

Craig Counsell had played in only four major-league games when Dombrowski added the infielder to a Florida Marlins team that was loaded with stars. Counsell sent Game 7 of the 1997 World Series to extra innings with a sacrifice fly and scored the winning run in the 11th.

The Phillies are looking for role players and bullpen depth because they already have MVP-caliber talents and top-of-the-rotation starters who can swing playoff series. Different injury concerns could pop up between now and July 30 and shift priorities. Adding a new player can also be a delicate balance because it means subtracting someone else.

"You always want to bring in the right people,” Schwarber said. "We got a really good chemistry with what we have. We have a standard within our clubhouse that people are going to want to abide by. It’s just how we are as a team and how we operate. We go from there. We have that trust.”

A name id go after if available is Ian Happ. He was bad the first month and a half of the year. But he’s turned it around. Since mayb21st he’s hitting .279/.389/.996 with 11 HRs and 38 RBI. I also don’t think it’ll cost you what it will for Robert. I’m guessing you probably could get a deal done that didn’t require giving up painter, miller, Crawford. I don’t think Bellinger would cost you those 3 prospects either

I know somebody here a while back posted about Eduardo tait, the catching prospect in the Phillies organization at 17. I went and watched a bunch of highlights of his and read a bunch on him. That kid is really good. When you watch him, he reminds you a lot of ruiz. Not so much offensively, but defensively and how he calls the game that’s who remind you of. I actually think at this stage of his career he’s further developed as hitter than Carlos Ruiz was when he got to the Phillies organization. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s targeted in a deadline deal. I would hate losing him, but I would understand it. But he feels like he could be the heir to Jt Realmuto down the road

Could just DFA as he’s not very good and hasn’t been for a year. Maybe someone claims him but I’m not sweating if someone does.
