The fact of the matter is your bullpen is currently worse than last year. relying on a guy with an elbow issue last year as the only one you’ve signed to replace Hoffman and estevez is not exactly good enough. This team played .500 baseball for 2/3 of the season, the fact is they were a mediocre baseball team majority of the season. And yet they are worse today right now and we don’t want to go over tax threshold of 301 mil (apparently currently at 289 mil according to zolecki and Salisbury). So it’s likely going to be run it back with cheaper signings hoping they pan out
December 20, 20241 yr Whit or Austin hays 2.0! so marsh a left handed bat and he’s a left handed bat.

December 20, 20241 yr With the way this offseason of not spending crap is going, he's going to be your everyday left fielder and they're going to try to sell the offense being improved through being healthier and moving guys around in the lineup. They seem to have no desire to spend much at all this offseason, it seems pretty obvious to me at this point.

December 20, 20241 yr Here's the other strange part. Kepler had an off-year last season but his prior 3 seasons were worthy of the contract $. But, he bats left and we wanted bats right. Now to make it even more interesting: we dumped Hays who had a bad illness/injury marred 2024, but was better 2021-2023 than Kepler, was cheaper, bats RH, is 3 years younger, and has more OF positional flexibility than Kepler, but would have cost us fewer $. The only thing that makes sense is if they plan to trade Casty or Marsh, otherwise, this signing is crap.

He’s useless and on the books for another two years. That’s probably another good bullpen arm if we don’t give him that money.
December 21, 20241 yr Thankfully, we signed a guy who was injured last year and 32 so could be on the decline for basically $20 million. Add on our bullpen move is hoping Alvarado bounces back and relying on a guy who had surgery on his elbow and missed majority of 2024 lol
December 21, 20241 yr Cool, another season of chasing pitches outside the zone, no true clean up hitter, Bohm throwing temper tantrums, Walker with a 6+ ERA, bullpen worse than last year and a wildcard first round exit when the entire lineup goes ice cold. Im trying to figure out what Dombrowski has done so special. He keeps running it back slightly worse each year for the last couple years then telling us FAs cost too much. What happened to the stupid money thing from Middleton... Guess he just meant Harper and Turner. Dumbrowski is useless.
December 21, 20241 yr If they release turner and pay him off will that no longer count against the luxury tax threshold?
December 21, 20241 yr As I said at the time and I was alone on, the Turner and Walker signings were a disaster. Just absolute albatrosses hanging on the necks of this organization. Their attitude is "We've spent 300m, that should be enough" but the thing is... it isn't. You put together a team that isn't good enough. And they seem to be dead set on trying to win with this group than overspending to win, which unfortunately, is their only real option since they only have one elite ML ready prospect(Painter) to bring up and make a difference. I don't think the Phils will suck next season or anything, but I think next season, especially if they don't get off to a hot start, could be a very meh season. I don't think 95 wins in 2024 necessarily guarantees you'll be great in 2025. I got the feeling when they got bounced from the playoffs that this group has reached the end of its run and they were going to need to make major changes or things were going to start sliding downward if they keep the same group. Hope I'm wrong, but next season feels like wildcard at best. The only thing I know for certain is they'll be better than the Mets.
December 21, 20241 yr Rickey Henderson passed away. Man that sucks. That dude wreaked havoc on the base paths. Only 65. Died of pneumonia.

Schwarber and Realmuto will be off the books. Walker and Castellanos will only have 1 more year. Maybe Crawford and or Miller will be brought up from the farm then. I agree though, not really looking forward to the season. The organization is putting all their eggs in hoping that they are the hot team come playoff time. What a stupid strategy. Plus, Thomson is back. You know damn well he isn't gonna do anything more than what he already has.

The problem is, I can see them saying we’re in a rebuild now if they have a bad year and not wanting to spend. That’s the problem. You better still be competitive this year to make sure that your core next year (harper, turner, stott, marsh, bohm and casty (for a year)) is still viable for the next window. Otherwise, you should just play the young guys and let them grow and then make splashes when they are ready that said spending next year they have a chance to go big if vlad jr and tucker hit the market. Pitching have peralta, Helsley and Devin Williams
December 22, 20241 yr If you disqualify the PED guys, is Mike Schmidt now the greatest living baseball player? Only Bonds, Clemens and A Rod have higher career WARs

I say this because if he’s able to get back to being a dominant pitcher and he hits the way he has that he is going to be up there
