About what i expected he’d get. 5-6 years at around 25-28

Woof. That contract could be putrid by the end. The Phillies can’t keep signing age 30+ free agents to long term deals. It hasn’t worked and it’s not sustainable. That’s why I think it’s likely the Phillies do little this offseason, allow the young kids to come up in 2026 and direct their FA dollars to 2026 once JT, Schwarber, Alvarado and Strahm come off the books. Casty and Walker contracts will also be much easier to move with 1 year remaining at that time. 2026-2028 could be their new window, while still competing in 2025.

And waste the last years of prime Harper and Turner? This further proves how damn stupid last offseason was.

I hear you but I don’t think their performance will nose dive only after one year. We’ll see. I hope they at least sign or trade for a legit LF.

Sf where every hitter’s career goes to die besides Barry bonds

Kind of think the white Sox might wind up being in the same spot as they were with Robert jr. Where the pricetag is too rich and they don’t trade him. Doesn’t help his camp said he wanted an extension last year if he was traded and he has 2 controllable years left

Soto to the Mets.  Yay

BREAKING: Superstar outfielder Juan Soto and the New York Mets are in agreement on a 15-year, $765 million contract, sources tell ESPN. It is the largest deal in professional sports history. No deferred money.

That contract is insanity. He’s extremely talent but not that talented. Little chance that contract pays off.

Time for a salary cap.

Yeah, Phillies are screwed now

Frankly, I think there’s a good chance Soto ia opting out of that contract after five years at 31. If he is still hitting the way he’s hitting now, then I suspect somebody will still give him a 10 year contract of at least 500 million which is essentially what he’d have left on the contract. I’m guessing he’d get more than that simply due to the money keeps going up and up.

that said Harper’s contract looks like a steal lol

Yup. But he didn’t defer crap

The effin Mets!

The Phillies could run it back and still be sizeably better than the Mets, and I don't expect the Phillies to run it back. The Mets aren't good, and Soto is highly overrated.

That being said I also think Dombrowski is overrated and I have concerns about his offseason.

Frankly might be good cause it means we can’t do what we did last offseason if we realistically expect to beat the dodgers and Mets.

Problem is I don't trust Dombrowski not to screw it up. Maybe he now trades young players for pitching or gives a bad contract to a certain 3B that will make things harder down the line.

Dombrowski blows. I'm not a fan. And he's arrogant as hell. But a dog could but together a better roster than the Mets. The question is can he put together a team that can get back to the World Series. Who knows. The good news is there really aren't any dominant baseball teams. Not that it's a sport where teams dominate anyway. Underdogs win in that sport more than any other.

Frankly only two prospects i think are untouchable are painter and miller. Which is fine as painter and miller can be star type of players. I think the other guys are trade assets if they can get the right player. The bigger issue to me is if Middleton is actually willing to spend into another tax threshold. Cause if he’s not you are going to be the same team as last year but frankly worse as you are losing some guys then. They really need a cleanup hitter/OF, 2 RP and probably a 5th starter until painter is ready.
