Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

The review and questioning if Ertz's go ahead TD was actually a catch was one of the biggest overreactions and fabricated drama I can remember.   Collinsworth actually suggests overturning the TD.  Ertz takes 3 full steps, dives and crosses the goal line with the ball in his hands.  Unreal the amount of time it took and the fact that CC wanted it to not be a TD.

I actually like Collinsworth but I found that entire sequence to be very poorly done on his part. I remember him saying "I won't even begin"...and then he spends the next three minutes doing exactly that. And Michaels was even worse. It's probably been a year since I watched it fully so I don't remember the actual quotes.

On the other hand, Merrill was clueless too, citing the fact that Ertz caught the ball after it bounced up, which was irrelevant. The Patriots announcers were surprisingly rational. I think the national radio guys had it right too. I believe it was Tony Boselli who nailed it.

Just watching it now and mind boggling how it it was even a take

He was clearly a runner.

My first time re watching it as well

Trade down with #10, get like something in the teens and another number 2, then trade 31 (and it will be 31) for a high 2nd and a high 3rd.  2 first round picks yield 4 picks in the first 3 rounds.......I'd be good with something like this.

I usually would too but this draft doesn't get me as excited as the last few years. I guess it just depends on who is available when we are making the pick.

That’s pretty much my ideal scenario.

My PERFECT scenario would be #10 and and a 2024 3rd for around #15 and a 2024 1st.

That leaves us with two first rounders and a stab at whichever CB or DL prospect drops (or a trade down for low first and low second like in your scenario) plus picking four times in the first two rounds next year.

Undrafted Eagles rookie Carson Strong is quickly making a name for himself

I really like Tyree Wilson, most likely gone by 10 but if he is there around 7 I'd investigate moving up. Think he's the best DE in the class who can do it all with tremendous measurables too. The size and strength on the line between Wilson & Davis could be dominant.

There are two Edges slightly later that I would be very happy to see as Eagles.  In my most recent mock draft I was actually able to select them both … Lukas Van Ness (Iowa) and Andre Carter (Army).

Is anyone concerned with Jalen Hurts and big games? He’s been benched during the College National Championship Game, NFL Divisional round and for the NFC Championship game. Seems to be a reoccurring trend.

He may not make it to 10 even.

This is what I’ve been saying… if this kid’s only knock is that he’s young and raw, but he has elite tools and is already good enough as a RS Sophomore to start on a back to back national title team from the SEC, he’s going to be the first OL off the board. And while every NFL GM already has him penciled in as the #1 OT, it will take draft pundits a month or so to catch up.

As far as making it to #10… Anderson, Carter, Young and Stroud are guaranteed top 10 players. But after that it becomes much more of a question mark.

For Jones to fall to #10, we need Murphy, Wilson, and Levis to go top 10 which is likely.

Then we will probably need some things to break our way. Someone probably needs to take Richardson. Quentin Johnson needs to have some great workouts and be viewed as a pro bowl WR. Bresee, one of the CBs, Bijan, or some out of left field pick need to occur. A couple of those things are going to need to happen for the top OT to make it to #10, but generally speaking a potential generational OT (at least generational level physical gifts) isn’t going to last long.

Other people here have definitely watched more CFB than I have, but just going off previous drafts and what people are saying about him, I think it may take a bit of luck for him to make it to our pick.

Probably going to transfer as well.

I like a lot of prospects who should be available in the 6-10 range. I don’t really love any of them. Personally I’m more inclined to trade down than up. I’d hold tight and see if anyone is willing to give us a godfather deal for a QB who drops.

I think we need quantity more than quality given the number of free agents we have. Put another way, we could probably drop down 5 spots, grab an extra 2nd rounder, and still be able to choose between 2-3 of the top CBs and 2-3 DL.

So unless the eagles feel there is a can’t miss all-pro type of player available (Broderick Jones might be the closest thing given his elite physical tools, youth and Stoutland here to coach him) I think we should be looking to trade down.

That was the scenario that the PFW simulator afforded me in my mock above.  The first trade they offered was to pick #11, then they offered #12 for #11.  That was too good to be true because both times both Jones and Myles Murphy were still on the Board. #12 then became #15. At that point I pounced on Jones.  When #31 came up there was another trade down offer and in the end I had the kind of quantity resources to give serious attention to both DE and RB.  Three RBs may be a bit much, but they are very complementary RBs and should work well with Gainwell.

The trend of overcorrections continue.

You and I like the same DEs. From what I’m reading though, Van Ness is likely to be a first round pick because he will have elite measurables and with his inside/outside versatility someone will take the gamble.

Carter, kind of the same thing — late first/top half of the second by the time the draft rolls around.

I think #31 is where we target a pass rusher because one of these guys will be there.

Also, something to keep in mind that Tommy Lawlor used to bring up a lot is how much less fungible prospects are for NFL teams compared to fans. While you or I would see those two on the board and excitedly trade down one pick knowing we were guaranteed to end up with one of them, NFL teams are much more specific with who they like and don’t like. It could be off field stuff, or measurables, or stuff they’ve seen on film, or scheme fit… but they may love one guy and hate the other. I think that explains a lot of why we don’t see the draft shake out as we expect outside of the top 15 or so picks.

All jokes aside, he hasn’t looked great these last two weeks.

That was my perspective as well.  Part of the challenge Michael’s and Collinsworth faced was the interminably long amount of time it took for the NFL to decide.  They ended up with a verbal diarrhea mess as a result.  And we all know that runs down hill.

Yeah, at some point the NFL needs to accept that this is a dangerous sport and injuries are going to happen. Protecting the head was great. That stuff leads to actual brain damage. But how the hell is someone supposed to tacking without using their body weight to drag people down?
