Timing.  You take an offer if it comes; if Johnson gets offered an OC job elsewhere before Steichen gets a HC offer, he doesn't have the luxury to sit around and wait to see what happens with Steichen's interviews.

Same reason people panicked when the Eagles entered their head coach search a week late.  They interviewed Saleh and Arthur Smith, who promptly accepted offers before the Eagles had finished their interviewing process.

He could, it was just saying Gannon might try to convince him. It would depend on a lot of behind the scenes stuff we wouldn't be privy too. If Sirianni wants to take back play calling it would make sense for Johnson to go with Gannon because he would be in full control on offense. Also depends on the timing of everything and how fast Gannon is hired vs how fast Steichen is hired.

Gannon would probably take some of his staff. I've heard Rallis mentioned.
