Been preaching this for a while. The reason why i say Jim Schwartz was a better DC is because there’s times he had a defense decimated by injury and yet was able to maximize some lesser talent and get them into positions to still be competitive and win games. Go back to the 2018 eagles, they had injuries in the second all year with darby, mills, mcleod and maddox getting hurt at some point in time and some for long periods of time. Yet in a divisional round against the saints he managed to hold the saints to 20 and managed to have them playing better by the end of the year. Heck he made Leblanc a fan favorite.

Gannon did a commendable job in 2021. But really he was still not good against better offenses in the league. This year he was given a loaded defense. And yet still the lions, cowboys with Dak and mahomes put up on average 35ppg. Only legit offense (good Qb and top 10 in scoring) that didn’t go over 30 vs. the eagles was the jags and Vikings. Vikings was impressive but the jags was m Lawrence struggling early in the season and rain helped in that game. Also both at home. We were 8 points worse on road or neutral site.

No doubt, Schwartz was a better DC than Gannon.  The difference was that Schwartz had more situational awareness.  As evidenced with the mic during the Super Bowl... Eagles take the lead with very little time left, but only 5 points and a lengthy drive for a TD kills the team's chances.  So, he changes his style and gets more aggressive and tells Doug... I'm going to get the ball back to you quick... and he was going to, either through shutting them down quick, turnover or letting them score quick.  That way the Eagles would have time for a FG to win it at the end if the D could stop the Pats from getting 2 should they surrender a quick TD.  Gannon had MORE time to figure that out...5 minutes, and just let them drain the clock.  Even though the Eagles should have gotten the ball back with time left after they did earn the stop to force the FG... they left their margin for error to nil.

There’s the tweet folks were looking for.

I was so wrong about Hurts, and so happy to be so very wrong. Love this quote.

Israel runs hard and has some wheels and moves. One of my favorite running backs this draft

Can the Eagles block them? Is it still the rule that it needs to be a HC promotion or a promotion to play calling duties? I get that it could be a bad look, but we don't want the entire offensive staff leaving.

Hmm not sure. I suspect it it's a promotion then they can make the move? So either the Eagles promote some of those guys or they lose them. It sucks but this is where Sirianni can go and prove how good he is.

No, if its a coordinator job they can't block it. If it's like WR coach to WR coach I think they can.

Hoping they find someone like demeco to run our defense.

Only thing I would like to see Hurts work on is rolling left and throwing. If he improves that he will be amazing. But I am content with where he is at currently.

I still think Fangio ends up sticking to his word with Miami, most coaches do, but there's been something weird about his "arrangement" with the Eagles all season. It was reported by several people he was a consultant. Then other reporters reported conflicting stuff saying "No, he was never hired during the season, this was before the season." And then the original reporters came back and said "No, he was hired during the season."

And then apparently they hired him for 2 weeks leading up to the SB. Then it was reported he was just continuing his consultant role or something.

Not sure why there's been so much cloudiness about his role. Makes me wonder if there is something going on behind the scenes between him and the Eagles brass.

If Jerod Meyo is actually available, we should give him whatever he wants.

I don't think I've ever been more wrong about a player, but I am so glad I was wrong.

Agreed 100%. I knew he was a good person and great leader. I admittedly never thought he'd get into the top 3-5 QB conversation, which is right where he belongs. VERY excited for FA, the draft, and TC.

You I specifically remember going back and forth with about Jalen. You were convinced that he could never be an accurate winning QB. There was a lot of conviction. The whole time I was wondering if I was the one that was crazy because he screamed exactly that — that he could be an accurate winning QB.

I do wonder why folks had such a tough time buying in.

Exactly this.

I have a friend in SF who texted me and said that wasn't a hold, my wife works with a guy from Chicago whose a bears fan and Saud the same thing.

Everybody other than chiefs fans and maybe cowboys and whiners fans know exactly the same that even if it is technically a penalty one doesn't call it at that point when it hasn't been called all game unless it egregiously obvious.

Having said that my main issue with the call is if one is going to make that call at that point in the game make it when the penalty occurs at the point of contact not after the result of the play and mahommes freaking out asking for it.

If the ref thought it was a penalty should have thrown the flag when he saw it not after the result of the play.

My view is that there's no way to change these types of calls. We can't know why the ref called it when he did but it wasn't an unreasonable call given the definition of the penalty.  I think they should change the definition of the penalty.  As it stands now the definition includes any grabing or holding of a jersey without regard to whether the contact impacts the play.  The other change should be to the penalty itself.  Let's get rid of automatic first downs.  If the Chiefs got to replay the down as a 3rd and 3, it's not great but it still gives the defense a chance.

Confirmation bias on both sides. Seeing what you want to see.

i dont see how you can say he is an accurate qb

I didn't know of any reports that he was hired to consult during the regular season

What? Jalen not an accurate QB? How on earth can you say that.

Because he wasn't great as a passing QB last season.  I think the Eagles would have moved on from him, if they could have acquired Russell Wilson.  I'm happy for Hurts and hope the Eagles can sign him in a deal that makes him rich but affordable.  He needs talent around him to win.

I’d add i think Gannon‘a defense is too passive when playing better QBs. He is who he is. He is going to rely on what he knows and what he’s comfortable with. I don’t need a Jim Johnson ultra aggressive defense but i also want someone who’s quicker to adjust in game and not fearful of going away from what he’s comfortable with. I don’t think Gannon does that nearly enough

Jalen is objectively an accurate QB. Look at his expected completion percentage.

The 2 most fair criticisms of Jalen
- Lack of arm strength
- Doesn't use the middle of the field enough

He just was not good in 2020 or 2021 🤷‍♂️
