I can point to Harbaugh and Tomlin as successful coaches that don't run either side of the team.

Both will probably go to Canton, with each having a SB championship.  Yet, they only have three SB appearances in 30+ years of coaching combined.  They have suffered through suspect OCs and mediocre seasons.

They stick around because players like playing for them

My main point is Siri has an offense he insists on using, but is incapable to call plays for it to even work. He needs someone else to do that for him, and Brian Johnson was somehow worse. The FO needs to bring in an experienced OC that can call plays from someone else's offense. I don't expect that pool of candidates to be all that big.

The FO got in the way too much this year and made it harder to evaluate the overall progress of the coaching staff. The only unit that was better than last year was ST, virtually every other position group regressed from last year. Part of that is expected since the standard set last year was so high, but it points to the quality of coaching.

  • For those that know me here I wanted to pass on the good news. I will be retiring from fulltime work in October of this year. Looking forward to not working 10 hour days anymore.

Ok I love the Barkley deal

Took an early shot at the 2024 roster. Obviously this can be filled out via FA and the draft some more, but shows there's a lot of holes. I left bradberry off because F him.

As offseason priorities, I would rank them as:

DE
WR
RB
LB

No…open the old one back up.  We don’t know if the off season started till the coaches are fired or retained.

Should dedicate the blog to Jason kelce. Call it the Jason kelce center for centers who want to block good and do other things good too

I suspect it's at least a week before we hear anything at all. They've got to have their post season debriefing with Nick and his staff first.

No they don't.  Black Monday is called Black Monday in the NFL because the Monday after the final game is when the head coaches are fired.   The news could (and should) break today if its going to happen.   Lurie waiting around for a week before firing Doug was a massive outlier in the entire process of how and when head coaches are dismissed.  And it put the Eagles a week behind the rest of the teams searching.  The Eagles are already a week behind now because they made the playoffs.

Oh if they hired him while he’s still employed they’d get picks. It’s not happening. No way anyone watched that game last night and thought "that’s my head coach”. Maybe water boy but not head coach.

We thought that about Gannon and the Super Bowl too.

Agreed.  If they fire him, and they should, no reason not to do it today.

Setting the Sirianni debate aside, task list for 2024...

  • New Coordinators
  • Adding talent to the back 7
  • Sorting out the Post-Kelce OL
  • Extending Smith and Dickerson (and Williams?)
  • More talent for the back 7
  • The running back room
  • Cox and Graham

Less than eight months to figure it all out.

Not sure the Sirianni debate can be set aside.  I would be surprised if he's still the HC by the end of the week.

This team sucks

That is all

I think one of thr big roster things to lookout for is what they end up doing with Reddick. He wants a new deal.  He's turning 30. A new deal would cost a lot.  The smart move I believe would be to trade him but not sure they will.

I'm still optimistic for next season.  It can be done quickly if the right moves are made decisively.

Get rid of the coaches and let's get started on the roster refresh.

Watching the Eagles lose sucks. But I'm ready for the offseason soap opera entertainment.

Let it begin.

Can we get some F’ing linebackers on this team. The ones that run and F’ing hit. Tired of this soft ass defense.

Honestly if they ran it back I wouldn’t be surprised. They’ve shown the ability to be stubborn all the way up the chain. If that happens I’m out next year.

Now is the time to run it back since the core of the offense is intact minus Kelce. With good coaching and an injection of talent on the defensive side they still have a good shot. Just have to be smart. Can't roll out an extremely old, limited talent defense again.

It doesn't seem Siri has lost the faith of the locker room with Reddick publicly defending him, and I feel I've heard other comments from players that indicated there is still support for him. My thoughts are the issues with the defense are mainly on Howie. You could have brought Jim Johnson back to lead this defense and they would still lose like this. Relying on Dean and Blankenship didn't work out for the back 7. Dean had 2 IR stints, and Blankenship was constantly injured. Did they ever have the same back 7 grouping 2 weeks in a row? There were too many injuries to overcome. Defense was just horribly managed with the changing of coordinators in the middle of the season and the roster construction was equally bad. It's like Howie was trying to see what is the lowest amount of talent you can have in the back 7 and still be average.

Now the offense, even though statistically top 10, it was just not great this year. The team almost never got into a rhythm, felt like we barely ever saw them get in the hurry up outside of 2 min offense. This is supposedly Siri's offense, why does it look so much different than last year? How much say does Brian Johnson have in the weekly planning? How much of it is Hurts that is limiting the offense that is called?

My thought is that if the FO wants to stay with Siris offense, which I think they will, he needs to bring in a OC that has previous HC experience and has called plays before. But what the hell is the point of Siri if you need to bring in someone else to run the offense and defense.

Howie will get a pass like he always does because comp picks, getting contracts for cheaper than market (really just getting it first), and deals he makes for picks and players that people gush over until they start playing like crap

I agree with this. There’s plenty of talent on offense and the dline. Get a new head coach and let’s get to work.

Lol

As a GM and owner, if you evaluate your coaches with any conviction and have any kind of bias for action, Sirianni has to be gone in the next day or so. Every hour with this coaching staff still employed is an hour lost that you could be improving the 2024 team.

We all knew the day of reckoning was coming, if not this year, next season. Howie mortgaged the future for a SB run and got there - so it was worth it.

Now he needs to forget about competing in 2024, dump dead money, add youth and do a quick rebuild, like they did in 2021 after going 4-12.

So I'll be happy with 7-10 next year if it's with a defense loaded with fast young talent, some young WRs learning the ropes, etc.

Dump most of the veterans and their contracts, eat the dead money, stay out of free agency other than young players blocked on their old teams looking for an opportunity to start.

This is still a top tier destination for a coach to come to. I do believe Hurts can be salvaged, they have draft picks, and there is talent to work with on offense.

@DaEagles4Life  Still think the NCAA investigation is done and they're gonna move on without any punishments?

The worst thing they can do is patch with FAs, push more dead money down the road and go 10-7 and out in the wildcard round.

Too many holes to patch, have to rebuild with youth - if you're lucky, you have a GB turnaround, more likely it should take two seasons.

No offense but I literally never agree with any of your takes.

You’re throwing away next year? As if we don’t have talent? Smh.
