Sure they are entertained. But the people who watch the Super Bowl (not in the stadium) don't pay for that entertainment. Follow the money.

Hunh? People don't pay for Sunday ticket, autographs from their favorite players, nights out to watch games, food to host parties watching games??

Come on now.

Playing sports is entertainment. Watching sports inperson is entertainment. The NFL's revenues marginalized entertainment a long, long time ago,

Lol... come on now. At some point you gotta splash some water on your face and wake up a little here.

Without anyone finding the league entertaining, there is no money. All the revenue is based off of the entertainment of the product. All of it.

The NFL makes money because people are entertained by the game. Does the NFL make less money when the game is less entertaining, or more money when the game is more entertaining?

You need to get technical to say football is the product? Really? Then why don't other football leagues make as much? Very simply because they don't have a large audience to sell to the people willing to pay ... the networks.

Every business school in the country disagrees with you, and Proctor & Gamble and Budweiser and all the other advertisers who pay the networks for access to the audience disagree with you. P&G doesn't sell more deodorant or shaving cream if the entertainment is good. Budweiser probably sells more beer if the entertainment is bad. They don't care about the state of mind of the audience. All they care about is the size and demographics of the audience. The networks are of the same mindset. Since their customers, the advertisers, don't care about entertainment, the networks don't care about entertainment either. The measure not the reviews of the games, but rather the audience size and audience makeup. Armed with that they purchase from the NFL the rights to that audience.

Why is this important? Because it explains why the NFL makes a lot of its decisions. They are always looking to expand audience size.

Why do they have a large audience?

Why does Ford have lots of cars to sell ... a big factory. However they aren't in the factory business. They are in the car and truck business. The NFL does entertainment well, but that is not what the checks they receive are for. The checks are for the rights to access the audience.

Ham, who is the best/ prototypical QB ever?

Many people say it is Tom Brady. I am not one of those people. He is clearly the winningest QB ever, but he falls considerably short of the prototypical ideal.

I always really thought highly of Dan Marino….but would say Elway added mobility probably makes him that guy

Just as Ham swings the pendulum too far in the Hurts can do no wrong direction, I believe you swing it too far in the other direction.

"We” (the coaches) didn’t take the game out of his hands. It never was in his hands to start with. What happened over the Bye was a reassessment of the entire risk profile of the Offensive scheme, which up to that point was very close to the historical Kellen Moore style of offense. The O-Line went to Stoutland, and then together they went to Moore and Siri and argued that their strengths were not being utilized effectively AND that was resulting in too many 3rd and long situations that included considerably greater risk than the alternative, which was adopted and executed.

The result was a point differential over 13 games of 170. With success like that, why tamper with the winning formula. Hurts was smart enough to go with that flow.

Fast forward to the Super Bowl and Spags and Andy decided it was best to dare Hurts to beat them. So he stepped forward and humiliated them.

That brings me to ranking the current NFl QBs. Mahomes is ahead of Hurts, but his crown is shaky given the Super Bowl results. Lamar is ahead of Hurts, but not by much. Josh Allen is ahead of Hurts. After that, what current QB is ahead of Hurts? You tell me.

Lamar never comes through in the clutch to win big games. Josh Allen can’t win a single OT game…like 0-7. I actually think of Joe Burrow the highest. Then Hurts is right in the argument.

You have SEEN them as haters. You are biased and polarized and incredibly loyal.

Because they are both text book haters….for that exact reasoning…I see them as they endlessly try and tear down our leader.

Those were my top two. Steve Young is in that conversation, as is Peyton Manning and Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.

Montana wasn't prototypical, nor was Brady or Brees or Bradshaw. They, like Hurts were winners more than they were prototypical.

The reason I ask is that the people who criticize Hurts are often holding him up to the prototypical standard for comparison. How does he compare to Marino? How does he compare to Elway? My sense is that you don't hold him to that prototypical QB standard, but rather to the winner standard. That causes a real, and understandable, disconnect. My personal belief is that Urts is BOTH a winner and not a prototypical QB.

That is a narrow data set. The numbers from this 2024 regular season say that Hurts doesn't come through in the clutch in the regular season games.

I personally believe the numbers lie, but it is hard to argue with someone who says Hurts was NOT the 2024 regular season MVP on the Eagles. It is a team sport after all, and the Eagles were the MVT in the NFL in the 2024-2025 season.

They aren't tearing him down. They are comparing him to Marino and Elway.

Allen definitely is not my guy to take a coin flip that's for sure. I would take Hurts all day vs Lamar. He gets the splash plays and the stats... but just don't trust him to make a winning play vs a quality team in a big game.

Burrow ....would love to see him with an OL

Never tear down Barkley at all. Nor Siri.

So running backwards and taking the sack anyway and me calling that a BONEHEAD play is being a "hater", while you make excuses for your god for the same play? I can't call him a bonehead for dropping the ball in the SB for a free 6 while you pin that error on a PREVIOUS play????? I know Hurts got AJ and he carries 10 other guys on his back for 60 minutes. GODLIKE. it's a miracle we could function 2 whole games without his "leadership" I have no clue how we put up 70 points. Must have been a short in the scoreboard. The hiney kissing is so amazing the only conclusion I can draw is you are his agent

You clearly missed the answer. The entertainment is the factory. Access to the audience is the cars to sell.

Take a look at the graph below. What that shows you is that the Compound Annual Growth Rate of NFL Revenues has been over 7% per year for the last 24 years. If entertainment is the product, has thee NFL gotten 7% more entertaining every year for the past 23 years? Or has the amount of entertainment ... number of games ... grown over 7% per year since 2001? Has the size of the NFL audience grown to 5 times the size in 2024 as it was in 2001? All of the answers to those questions is "No." What has grown at that rate is the willingness of advertisers to pay for access to that audience.

It's even better with our QB sneak. The team enjoys demoralizing the opponent. There is less of a chance for turnover...and even better.... you get to the 1... worst thing is that tackle for a loss and now you are at the 4 or 5. If our sneak didn't work... worst case was a push...and restart from same spot

It's really only annoying when Ham thinks it's a Hurts stat....similar to 70 points in 7 quarters without him, our other QBs were successful with the sneak.

I love the sneak.. love the whole idea of simple. Love the idea of failure meaning to try it again from same spot. I'm not a fan on being less than a yard and then losing 3 yards because one person messed up. Now you gotta change the whole approach on next play.

Just get me the points...which leads to just get me the wins...which leads to just get me the Superbowl. Everything else that's a nice gesture....we can save that for the family parties.. lol

Here's a good video that shows why the Brotherly Shove is effective and will continue to be effective. His comments about the role of Goedert and AJ are very interesting. That is a take that I haven't heard before. It makes total sense.

The constant in why is there an audience is because it is one of X-number of persons favorite forms of entertainment.

Why does the NFL make more money than cornhole or ping pong? Very simple answer. Why do they have a bigger audience?

Very simple answer. Because more people are entertained. Without that there is no audience or money.

Correct... the business doesn't exist without the entertainment provided to the audience.

Without that there is no audience, but the money isn’t for the entertainment. It is for the rights to the audience. To draw an analogy. A man and a woman produce a child. The child grows up and enters the job market. Are the companies considering hiring the child paying for the man and woman’s procreation skills? No they are not. They are looking at the child (grown child) and assessing his size and his demographics and his likeliness to produce revenue for their company. How well the parents did in bed is of no interest.

I think it is time for us to agree to disagree. Reasonable people can agree to disagree reasonably.

The Goedert signing prompts me to look at what players we lose at the end of this season and match that up with the Draft picks Howie has in the 2026 Draft. In the list below there are only two starters, Blankenship and Goedert. Nakobe Dean can be considered to be a third starter, but in Fangio’s 4-2-5 scheme, Jihaad Campbell is the better starter than Dean. Blankenship will almost surely be extended before the end of this season.

So Howie will enter 2026 Free Agency and the Draft with holes in TE1 (Goedert), TE2 (Bryant and/or Calcaterra), RB2 (Dillon), WR3 (Dotson), Edge 3/4 (Ojulari and/or Uche). That is 5 holes and 5 picks in Days 1 and 2 of the Draft. Plus seven picks in Day 3, which can address LS (Hughlett) and other depth positions. It is really an enviable position to be in.
