O coaches and players don’t want to be forced to complete tight window difficult passes. They are looking to convert first downs and produce. But will take their chances the less they fear interception occurring. I’m even going as far to say that such high level QBs just given the confidence of nothing to lose…makes these guys incredibly dangerous. Take a Sam Howell type career backup…but this is still talking NFL talent level players…..just take their fear of interceptions percentages away …and these guys can start killing you. Take any capable serviceable QB and show him such an expected soft coverage playing over the top all game. He can shread those easy underneath uncontested or molested routes. Give him analytics and film of all season each QB toasting a DB? He’s going to be confident throwing there. Saying….two DBs can have exactly the same level of coverage on any given play….but a confident QB against one can make all the difference. A confident throw without fear and hesitation…versus a hesitant throw just all mental differences towards what is and expected tougher worse matchup target. Kind of the blueprint of : throw it high against Maddox. Even if he is outstanding in every way defending…hip pocket of receiver….still might complete the pass in tight coverage to that high spot. QBs fear of it turning into an interception really at a low.

Maybe that’s also a part of the point. Fame and notoriety comes outside

Who was the most famous CB in the Super Bowl … the one with the most notoriety? The Rover back … the Monster back … the Nickel CB.

Big time outside CB …as Copp puts it "going against the best” ….versus inside Slot CB tend to not make names for themselves and garner big fans and fame.

None of them have Fangio or his light box 4-2-5 scheme, which empowers the 5th DB to make plays like DeJean made in the SB.

Key words "pay scale”. Other than for rookies, the NFL has no pay scale. All negotiations are individual and unique … just like the real estate housing market. You are imposing your own sensibilities on something you have no role in.

It’s great and exciting! Frankly I’d be really scouting planning out every teams situation. That last PS game is exactly the one you need all that practice roster players exactly to get rewarded in seeing plenty of field time. Never made any sense to me cutting down before that final game where you exactly can really reward all these athletes that practiced hard and gave everything to try and fulfill their dreams. Many 90 man roster players getting cut pretty much never were getting any real shot anyway. Most coaches and GMs have things fairly mapped out on paper they would like to see transition to on the field. Pretty routinely see the favoritism give certain athletes plenty of chances while most fringe guys really never even get that one legit opportunity.

Most coaches and GMs … but not Howie, who is way ahead of all the others in his scouting and due diligence , especially the trenches. He even personally went to scout Calijah Kancey in a game against UNC.

Arod is a Squeeler. I hope all that drama was worth it LOL. We signed Keiron Robinson. We are searching, it seems, for our starting return and "gadget" guy

Been mentioning the YAC Creation plays. Ainias was the stab at it. But should be a cheap easy find really.

Really a needed addition to add a counter within our O.

LMAO DeJean is NOT "forcing outside time."(neither does his agent) DeJean played many spots at Iowa and LOVES this game. Nothing wrong with allowing him to LEARN with spot play at another position. IDK where you come up with this false philosophy garbage. Iowa coach said if DeJean had stayed he was going to use him on offense also. DeJean will be paid for how many plays he makes NO MATTER what the position is. SO why don't you just let Fangio DO HIS JOB and let Howie DO HIS job? If you think you are better, go pound on Lurie's door and tell him, then go tell Howie how much DeJean should be paid. Then trot down to Fangio's office and let him know how many snaps at each spot you require he play. HURRY, because all these guys are helpless. DeJean was a great call by TD123

Terrible argument and view that clearly doesn’t apply to the NFL. Offensive Player of the Year last season…got a huge pay increase…still pennies compared to other positions.

It’s happening in pretty much every phase. Where are these guys being drafted too? Big trades. Big mega contracts.

And when the star of SB LIX goes to extend his contract, what will be discussed will be his accomplishments and the team’s accomplishments, not a label.

What you are arguing for is for Taylor Swft to be paid less than male singers/artists because her label is woman … or Shirley Temple to be paid less than adult female actresses because her label is girl.

The talent coming out of college now is much better than a decade ago. Teams are getting guys in late rounds that are viable BU's at LEAST. Seeing more guys on teams from small schools we never saw before, so I disagree. Expansion of the PS and the latest "technically adding 2 more players" to your roster means IMO there is too much talent around, or those moves would not have been made. You aren't lowering the standards, you are letting guys with NFL dreams avoid collecting unemployment instead of pursuing their goals

There are 134 FBS football teams and every one is entertaining, and almost all of them have rosters that are more than 50% larger than NFL rosters. There is no shortage of talent. 134 versus 32 … pretty straightforward black and white numbers.

Last season PFF top CB rankings were:

New York's Sauce Gardner, Denver's Pat Surtain II, Kansas City's Trent McDuffie and Chicago's Jaylon Johnson.

PFF is a joke and not worth the paper its ratings are printed on.

Didn’t even include Stingley. Which I’m just flat out calling wrong. Makes the plays grabbing picks. Teams know better than to even throw in his direction. Batted down a bunch of attempts still. Insane league leading completion rate receivers were held to against Stingley when matched up. Totally always just been a guy known was elite stud. Texans jumped way up in that draft and took him like 3rd overall even I think. Nobody jumping up to top three overall draft pick for a Slot CB.

The exception does not make the rule.

You and I have talked about roster construction in prior comments, and we are both on the same page.

With that said even maximizing the use of the practice squad, we are going to end up with more than 53 players that we want to keep … 54 if you count Nakobe Dean on PUP.

So finding ways to not lose players the same way we lost Dylan McMahon two seasons back is something that we definitely want to try and do. The two recallable IR spots can help in that.

The possibility that Campbell is going to be ready in Wweek three or four is extremely remote, if we can believe the comments that we’ve heard from Fangio in the last 24 hours. So I’m less inclined to think about holding the option of him being available before the end of week four.

In addition, I wonder how much better the Eagles squad on the field in week three or four would be with Campbell versus Trotter Junior, or whoever wins the spot opposite Baun.

McMahon was just last year...but also...the idea to me with how they use the practice squad now...leads me to believe that they weren't that disappointed in losing McMahon.

Campbell absolutely could start on the PUP....but let's not worry about that now... he starts in August...let's not assume how long before he really is ready. I trust they know what they are doing.

That's 3 posts regarding this....and none with the actual name of the $13mil slot CB. You keep making my point by refusing to say the name. No wonder he isn't paid 30 million

As compared to Cooper Dejean being a name player. Everyone knows him... he will get paid.

..no name given yet.. another point for Joe.

You got Jalen Ramsey a big huge deal paid and traded for his whole career. Second trade was much cheaper as the Rams were in cap ruin and had to just clear their cap to reset after their All In Super Season.

Chauncey Gardner Johnson was top Slot CB practically given away to us in trade. He wasn’t going to stay playing in the Slot either. His contract season he pushed all chips in on getting paid as a S. Which was smart business decision in most ways. Really didn’t quite work out nearly as well as it could have for him though. Business surrounding the NFL positional market …made it obvious for CGJ to want the switch to S. That’s not even as high of paying as outside CB. But Slot CB is one of the lowest positions paid.

I’m saying Stingley is in my top five CBs. Q is also. I just don’t think you can overreact to just how amazing Q from day one as a pro just has been fantastic! Traditional in the NFL would expect a dropoff from Q second season. Long SB season he played every snap during….as a rookie….from Toledo. Not many rookies at any position adjust that seamlessly to NFL pro life. But wear and tear just has to be there after such an epic and extensive first pro season. Hard to really predict and judge durability, longevity….each individuals physical limitations. But even just bypassing any massive workload rookie season considerations….just think about as a very high visibility known top CB on Champion team that’s returning with highest of expectations. Top team…top second year CB….divisional rivals are studying Q in microscopic detailing. Heck…Jerruh would probably just fork over some crazy cold cash to any scout that can break down any tiny nuisances of tendencies that can be attacked. I mean…Q isn’t just a one game problem for the entire NFC and especially the NFC East….he’s a very long term major difficulty they all will be challenged with for the next decade.

Anyway…just saying target is on our Eagles league wide. Even Goodell and Vincent…weak sauce..but true. Best of the best top defensive players and coaches are spending a good chunk of time studying Q rookie season film. That’s where it’s just natural for a second year player to take a step back. The best football minds all are going to break down anything and anyway he isn’t perfect. Just gotta respect how incredible all these D coaches and players getting paid fortunes are at finding anything. One player or coach identifies any weakness? Then every opponent after that sees it on film as the blueprint. This is just flat out going to happen. Almost no way it can be avoided. Then it’s just up to the player to self scout and improve by developing weaknesses…not necessarily to be strengths….just improving in those areas enough to not be such easily taken advantage of. Some players actually hit a wall and can’t ever do it. Their weakness just is their weakness they won’t ever correct. Q is just such an unbelievable athlete….hard for me to believe once faced with any weaker technique points or areas of more vulnerability? He just will have to put in the work on improving. Which shouldn’t be much of an issue for him to solve fairly quickly I’m believing.

Main thing with Q is he just needs to cash in on finishing his great play and opportunities by making the interceptions. Force some fumbles I also want him to make a push towards. Right now…Q is sticky in coverage and makes things really difficult for opponents….but if things continue on for him ,with every reason seeming to factor in, on him not taking the ball away. Then QBs won’t be scared of throwing at him. Tight windows from sticky coverage and exceptional recovery speed lower completion percentages and success rates for any O to really choose as a good option for success. QBs are funny …how even middling backups …if filled with confidence? can make the right window throws actually very consistently. Bradberry and Maddox both we saw exactly that take place. Not as much about either DB just playing so terrible. It was that confidence each QB felt going in with that matchup. Watched all that film week after week of all different other QBs finding success there. A QB full of confidence against a CB is death. Any QB feels there isn’t a pressure… if say a CB just becomes known as won’t make the play and interception? Not much too lose for the QB there. Like Maddox…even stuck in receivers hip pocket? QBs knew if they threw it high that throw was always available.

OCs started backing off throwing towards Q in record time. It was crazy…like just a few games out of Toledo and top O minds already gameplanning don’t throw his way. Sticky coverage and incompletions…even challenging successful completions ….won’t be enough to have OCs totally scare away from him though. He has to make the turnovers. OCs and QBs want to find better options of playmakers that are open. But won’t fear Q without him proving he’ll make them pay…by showing he is more than just a guy out there playing CB because he doesn’t have the hands to do other wise. Make the interceptions…so many right there last season….always something…one just had Ceedy Duce come ram him out of the pick himself. Two others teammates got in his way. On and on…but just seemed to have everything against him finishing and making that turnover.

10th post....including a few novels... still no slot CB name
