Simple answer they feel like this gives us the best possible 5 starting.

Jurguens has experience as a G at the NFL level while Kendall only played C in college so it’s a more natural position for him.

And it’s not a short-term move it’s what minimum of 4 weeks before Dickerson can even be taken off IR(and that’s if he is healthy).

Bingo! Because Sirianni has proven that his focus is on the current week.

The only time it hasn't been... is preseason not playing starters...and end of season once playoffs were locked... he plays to win that day. As he should.

That the philosophy of the team... otherwise last year Campbell would have played over Dean at LB. It wasn't experimental... it was playing the guys who give you best chance to win.

Really it sends the message ... until you prove you are worthy of being on the field...you won't play. Great philosophy because the players have to step up.

Sure, but then the "next man up" theory doesn't hold because we had no BU for Dickerson. The next man up was already assigned a position(C). So the fact we had to move a C to LG tells me we weren't prepared for Dickerson missing time. Moving your C sounds more like a desperation play because you weren't prepared. JMO

Again though... it seems like you want a different backup for each position and for some reason not just the best players.

As BG said. .it seems the idea on the interior was to put Kendall in.....if it's one of the tackles it's Bell or Fred Johnson.

Hopefully we don't find out the plan for OT...with Lane and Mailata staying healthy.

When you're earning that kind of loot there really isn't much grace.

So when Jurgens was injured in the NFC championship game ...and they moved Dickerson from LG to C and put in Steen at LG....do you think that was being unprepared because they moved Dickerson?

They had Steen as the next man up if either Dickerson, Jurgens or Becton couldn't play.

What is the difference for you now with Kendall being the same as Steen? Same exact thing..

Only difference is maybe you weren't expecting it.... which doesn't mean much...why I keep saying the preseason games aren't as important that 7 5 weeks of camp.

The big thing for me.. if I'm a player or coach...and I am investing all the effort to prepare mentally, get my body in shape...all that work to be at my best to win... I want my coach giving me the best teammates on the field .

I want my coach to honor my work. Not " experiment "

To be honest ...it's pretty arrogant to think playing in February is guaranteed. Especially after last year. They should be looking to put their best effort each week and build on it going forward.

Can you imagine being Lane Johnson...and the coach telling him..." hey we are going to experiment this year with guys on your line" Really... this is what he came back for? I don't think so. Kendall is the guy they feel has earned the spot. They feel he is better than Lampkin or any other backup interior OL.... that's why he is in.

One would think...

Dickerson, Cam, Steen is 1.. with

Cam, Kendall Steen ...

Dickerson, Kendall Steen..

Dickerson, Kendall, Cam.... as the alternatives if one if the starting 3 are out.... with Cam being the guy that moves because they like Kendall at C in all of the alternative combos.

To us it was an " experiment " to the Eagles, they were putting out what they thought gave them the best chance to beat Tennessee

I respectfully disagree. Beating Tennessee was only a "nice to have” short-term objective, which was secondary to the long-term objective of identifying the best solution to their LG issues.

If they had a choice between (A) winning the game and making no progress toward identifying the best solution to their LG issues, and (B) losing the game and making real progress toward identifying the best solution to their LG issues, they would choose (B) over (A) every time.

Except we don't have Becton. Steen got RG by default. Who is Steens BU? Jurgens?

IMO the fact we wont the game(barely because it took the last 9 seconds to do it) and having Hurts running for his life is not a win to me. IDK that what they tried was the best we can do. Maybe it is, maybe that's as good as it gets. We could have lost that game VERY easily. Facing better teams, those teams aren't going to let us off the hook. So did Kendall win the C job then? Will Jurgens take Dickerson's job? I don't see anything that is a solution. It was a band aid measure because Dickerson was out. I think all we found out is that what we put on the field was fairly inadequate, but as you said we found out it was inadequate. If you think this combo will hold up against the Rams, I have swamp land to sell you. And so I understand everyone's point, yet I remain skeptical that that would be our future O line next season. At any rate, since we have nothing else to offer, I suspect it's correct to ride with that again, but as I said the Rams aren't the Titans and if Dickerson hangs it up or gets hurt constantly we have no solutions to the problem although we learned Kendall can play the C position. I also get that teams will go for your weakest link and as much as I think Hurts is mediocre, I still don't need to turn the team over to QB 2 or maybe even 3 if that link is that weak. moving on...............

Eagles' Sean Mannion is doomed to repeat Kevin Patullo's...

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion could be making the same mistakes that Kevin Patullo did if he stays stubborn.

We don't have the players to run those flare screens. This article agrees. It's weak, it's predictable and teams are defending it already. The motion isn't fooling anyone, it's overused also IMO, but as we have no O line we're not running up the gut like we should be. Pity the talent we are wasting at RB

No we don’t have direct backups we haven’t ever really not in recent memory. Kendall was the top backup on the interior why he is in playing.

It really comes down to who is OL #7 my guess would be Lampkin at least on the inside.

Been like this for years. Fred Johnson was playing numerous backup spots last couple years, we had Big V who would come in at 4/5 OL spots for us

What has made the Eagles OL one of the best is obviously the stars but also because we have had strong 6th and 7th versatile OL depth pieces( main one being that 6th guy)

If the Superbowl was Today...what do you think their OL would be?

Again... If the idea is similar to 2 years ago...using the top back up approach ( 6th man idea) Kendall goes in for Steen and they move Jurgens to RG.

It's not that " Jurgens " is the backup specifically to a position...it's that Kendall is the next man up when an interior starter is unavailable.

Wait.. I thought this DT from Tennessee is supposed to be one of the best in the league? Wasn't it supposed to be a tough matchup SPECIFICALLY for the interior OL?

Which would logically mean Sirianni wanted what he thought was the current best combo inside to protect Hurts?

Was he really running for his life? How many scrambles?

Week one...We had Daniels running for his life... 19 pressures... idk how many Hurts had vs Tennessee?

Yes. In certain situations in order to potentially maximize the probability of the Week 17 (and February) lineup being the best it can possibly be, i absolutely do believe a professional team will put out something other than their best lineup. The Week 18 games clearly illustrate that.

However, that example is tangential to the point you are making. So, here's a question for you. Which is the Eagles' best lineup? (1) Mailata-Jurgens-Kendall-Steen-Johnson or (2) Mailata-Kendall-Jurgens-Steen-Johnson?

A win is a win on the League standings. Nothing more, nothing less.

Agreed 100%

If the roster size were larger than 53 you could have specific individual backups for specific individual positions, but the count of 53 makes that very difficult to do. Certain positions need to be more than 2 deep. And if you start from the premise of 24 regular positions (plus the 3 Special Teams positions) to be two-deep at each position requires 48 players plus the 3, so 51 total. Add in the 3rd QB and 3rd RB and you are at 53. That leaves you very thin at positions where you need more than 2 ... TE and DT for example. So you borrow from Peter to pay Paul.

I don't know the answer to those questions ... and there is a good chance that the answer to the first one is different from the second one.

For the first one the possibilities most likely are:

Mailata-Jurgens-Kendall-Steen-Johnson

Mailata-Kendall-Jurgens-Steen-Johnson

Mailata-Kendall-Lampkin-Steen-Johnson

For the second one, the possibility of Dickerson being healthy adds additional options.

With that said, I agree with their choice of the first one for the Titans game. The most important question they needed an answer to was whether Kendall could handle the "line calls" responsibilities of the Center position. The answer they got to that most important question was a resounding "Yes, he can!"
