Not nearly as ideal as developing his fundamentals and instincts at his position we want him to play for years to come. Just making the point of it’s very much less than ideal …for our top pick stud CB to begin his career.

So it'[s not ideal. Is every team ideal? You play where your team NEEDS you to play and if you are the best option at a spot you aren't familiar with, you still play it because you are the BEST option available. This will NOT make him unlearn how to play outside,it's ADDED experience not a taking away of it

Again…I totally realize you don’t get it. Why don’t you watch a grizzled forty year NFL coach talk about things. Go watch Fangio’s presser.

Got better things to do.  Season starts that Friday in Brazil.... nobody getting injured is all I need to know for the next month.

Do you remember how I talked about Q the whole predraft process? How excited I was for us making that pick? Should be fairly easy to understand my point of view…even if you disagree.

Sure, but we have players that are out, and we have a season coming up and we have to put the best UNIT on the field until we can shuffle them again. It's not ideal, but it's the best we can do ATM

I thought Q was the best CB in this draft. The best CB on our team. So we’ll move the best out of position for sake of the lessers.

The best in August LOL. he has along way to go to prove he is the best. That doesn't happen game 1`

No....believe it or not i don’t hang on every word you say because I don't look at you as any expert.

That's great that you think all of this.  Really doesn't impact anything

He's not going to stay in the slot "for 12 years" LOL We need a slot guy in the UNIT and he is the best choice ATM

His first season I don’t think he’s at a point you can talk about unlearning things. It’s all about building and developing the correct way to build on for all these seasons to come. But this is correct in my point is clearly less than ideal situation. It hopefully doesn’t ruin him or define his career in negative lights. Unless some 320 pound pulling G comes stomping on him and breaks him.

Just isn’t the same as playing a Oline at G to move. G is kind of the easier more protected Oline position to begin with. Some different things but much easier lighter transition from G to C or T….than Slot to Outside CB.

How is learning a similar yet different position going to hurt him? He will forget all he learned in college? Maybe if he's a moron, but otherwise in practice he will play both spots.Coverage is coverage. lets see if he can cover the JJ's in the world in the slot because he will see JJ again when he plays outside

Why DB's get paid more

I mean I get your point here. And I don’t fully disagree with it. But think I differ with this player somewhat on just how high I am on him. Just much more difficult to accept this logic when you’re talking about moving the Elite player out of position. Like if you don’t have the CBs but have depth at S so you need to move Weapon X out to CB. That’s a tough move to make. But especially to begin a players career. Having this player coming as a rookie out of Toledo I think just makes it all the more a larger factor.

If anyone ever played football at any level...even for fun in the back yard.  You know it's more difficult to cover a guy starting in the middle of the field as he can run all over the place with his routes...the guy lined up outside has the sideline limiting where he can go.

For me...having Mitchel getting on the field and manning up these quick NFL level slot WRs without the crutch of the sideline or the time that a throw takes to get outside... is going to help his cover skills get sharper.

He can learn the " rocket science " of off coverage later. Develop those physical skills and that mental toughness to go one on one in a more difficult environment now...should help him tremendously.

Being on the field when the team is all in...is the best development a player can get in the NFL.

Idk....apparently we draft mental midgets?

Sure I get you are high on him and he should take an outside spot, but we have guys hurt and not many that can cover inside. Of the players we have he is the best choice. not ideal, but you put your best UNIT on the field. The guy you were high on was a round 1,the guy I was high on was a late pick and ma not make it as a WR,but maybe he is the best return guy,if so he will play there. it's NFL experience regardless(or maybe ASmith doesn't make the team at all)

The Master plan

10 wins ...to justify firing the coach.  Letting Fangio develop his 2026 defense... because we aren't all in.

Or

Reality...they are trying to win now and any playing time the rookies get will help then in the future.

As Fangio calls the position basically a LB. Traditionally in a 4-3 having the LB walk out there. The coverage and technique issues in passing coverage is just one huge part of the equation. But the run game you are now putting Q much more in the mix with. Would you have taken Neon Deon or Revis or many top outside CBs and had them playing a bunch against the run? Is the priority of an outside shutdown CB dealing with getting around Oline and in the meat of the run game? More to the job than you’re considering. Slot CBs are exposed to much more than the isolation of outside CBs to keep them healthy.

Because you think you run the team and everyone holds your opinion to actually mean something more than any other fan.  That's not reality.

He is a bit cocky(the BMOC at a small school does that),so let's see if he can walk the walk in the slot. Maybe he gets humbled which again is a learning experience for a YOUNG MAN

You guys are disagreeing with a forty year vet coach in Fangio that just made these points.

They actually don’t. Look at the salaries.

Just as an example(only), say we signed JJ. Would you have any issue with moving DSmith to the slot? If that's what works best? You have 3 top WR's and you can [place them wherever you want. Do you not place them at the points that give you the most yardage and TD's?

So you have zero issue taking what should be our best CB for the next decade and slowing his development while putting him in much more harms way?
