Exactly my fear when I posted what I did yesterday and caught flak for it. It was pretty clear there was a risk for a letdown after that emotional Pens series. Happens quite often in the NHL post season. The good news is that they have every chance to bounce back in Game 2 and can look to steal it with a tight victory. However, if Carolina totally dominates again then this will be a very short series.

Maybe true however the hurricanes won last night exactly in how they force you to play (based on analysts of what I’ve heard going into the series and read). Apparently they are an aggressive team that’s going to attack when you bring out the puck out of your defensive zone. Going to force you to make a quick and good decision. They got 2 goals last night simply cause we didn’t make a quick and/or good decision. If you can make quick and good decisions with their aggressive style then you are going to have opportunities. However like period 3 and OT of game 6 vs penguins we had issues clearing our defensive zone. The difference is Vladar was lights out that game and the hurricanes are simply a better team than Pens. It’s why they finished with 2nd most points in the nhl

No doubt all of that is true and it is surely quite an uphill battle for the Flyers

Tbh unfortunate we got the hurricanes and not Sabres. I thought Boston was out played in games 4 and 6. But rest of that series felt like Boston just giving away game 1 and even game 3 i thought they looked like the better team through the first two periods. I think the Sabres also have a lack of playoff experience whereas the hurricanes have been there the last 8 years

Sure seems like this is a year to build on and not one to actually challenge. Hopefully, next year we are talking about hoisting the cup. It has been far far too long.

Need martone and Michkov to take the next steps in their development. Some younger guys too. However it’s a poor FA in terms of what the flyers really need. I’m curious how they attack it cause they have cap space and some solid draft capital. I’m guessing the trade market is how they find the pieces they want.

You gotta give to get, and the Flyers don’t have much in the way of high level prospects to trade, nor great draft capital except for the Maple Leafs first round draft pick in 2027.

The Pens series and the game last night displays the total void the Flyers have of elite offensive talent, particularly at center. I don’t see how the Flyers will realistically acquire a top flight center either. They’ve boxed themselves into being a decent team, but with no real opportunity to become a Stanley cup contender.

Depending on how they view michkov long term i actually think he and that leafs pick along with some other stuff could be a package for a 1C or a 1D. The issue is they really don’t have enough to also get a 1D if they do it for 1C and vice versa. I’ve thought they’ve needed both. It would push everyone into better spots and pairings. Tbh if they do a package of michkov, leafs 1st and some others and acquire a 1C then with some of their cap space they could go after someone like Alex tuch too. However feels like he is going to get overpaid and I’m not sure you can just bank on both of those things 

Imo the flyers taking gauthier and not just signing him hurts here. Even if drysdale is solid, gauthier is a 40+ goal scorer already and you can’t make that pick without knowing you can sign him or irritating him/agent enough to not sign and force a trade.
