Makes you wonder why the primetime viewership is dropping off year after year for the past decade, doesn't it?  Basically flat for a decade or so with a minor rise, and now its dramatically lower than it was coming out of the 90s.

For all this 'talent', the game just doesn't seem to have the following it once had.

What was it about 2010 thru 2012 that prompted such a spike in viewership?

The NBA can be watched in clips and snippets on YouTube or TikTok and it's how a lot of the younger generation "watch" games. I know it's how my son catches up on games.

The other issue is Steph and LeBron are on middle of the road teams that have zero shot at a title. Who is the next great American player to draw the random viewer in. Is it ANT or do we wait for AJ Dybantsa or Flagg. Tatum sucks as a personality, not sure Brunson has it, and Ja just keeps picking injuries.

So... not interesting enough to actually watch a whole game.   🤔

You are correct, the league is star driven, but in so being "star" has supplanted "team" to the point of ludicrous where stars now dictate personnel moves.  It might be a lazy take, but here it is... when you have a star driven league, rather than a franchise driven league, fans will come and go with the stars rise and fall.  Franchises don't have the loyalty of their fans, and players don't have any loyalty to franchises either.

The high water mark appears to coincide with Lebron's 'The Decision' and his time in Miami.  And since then... the league's primetime viewership has dropped dramatically.

I don't know, but that coincides with Lebron in Miami with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.  Not sure if there's a causal relationship, but there's a correlation there.

The trio of Wade, James, and Bosh in Miami is my guess.

I lived in south FL at the time.

Heat fans were insufferable lol

Who has moved though in the last few years besides KD or Irving. Donovon Mitchell signed an extension to stay with the Cavs of all places. No talk of ANT or Luka or any other young star looking to move.

Especially with the tighter cap restrictions, it just won't happen as often.

Haha what? I said the NBA is boring and you got all butt hurt. I’m sure everyone who has a different opinion than you, you consider to be "uneducated” to make yourself feel better.

I love the NFL draft but at the same time completely understand why people think it’s incredibly boring. Also love the World Cup but understand why people don’t like watching soccer.

You said stars don't play and they all play the same way. Wrong on both points. It's okay to say you don't watch the games but then to throw out talking points you got from First Take which are wrong is just stupid.

It’s certainly more boring than the NFL but I wouldn’t say it’s unwatchable.

The NBA has entered nascar status imo

I don't watch NASCAR, so I am wondering, what do you mean by NASCAR status and what is wrong with it?

Maybe its just Lebron's influence that taints things in my mind.  Did Lebron not just dictate this offseason who would be his new coach and force the Lakers to draft his kid?  Was he loyal to what was best for the Lakers, or what was in his family's and his own personal best interest?

Lebron has been doing this for the last 15 years so it isn't new.

Would love to have an elite DE with Carter

True... and it seems the NBA's popularity hit its zenith just as that started, and has waned since that point.

Yup.   That would be an ideal draft choice for this team.  Instant impact.

Hit that point after Lakers/Celtics peak rivalry and after MJ retired. People just don't care enough about Jokic because what he is doing is beyond special so wait for the next wave.

this one "might" actually bring some news

Eagles open practice window for Goedert

Copied my post from the "... should he play?" thread

But then I listened to Seth Joyner ... and some other things came to mind.

1st, your not on the verge of breaking any records in the preseason.

2nd, Barkley will probably never be this close again.

3rd, even though it's Barkley's name next to the record, this is truly a team record, including the defense. If the defense is getting the brakes beat off it every week then the offense has to throw more to stay in games. Yes the offense has been explosive with Barkley running, but no one knew it would be like that until it happened.

4th, While playing everyone doesn't guarantee the record and every week is an injury risk, resting the starters doesn't guarantee a Super Bowl victory. I can't imagine being this close and resting everyone for the sake of the championship only to come up short - and then have to wonder why we rested everyone when we were so close.

5th, Fortune favors the bold.

6th, I don't think the Giants Defense will load the box with more than 8 ... BUT if they do then we'll just get the record for TD passes in a game. Let the Giants pick their poison.

If it wasn't already obvious

resting everyone, it is the correct decision

Let him go for the record. I was disappointed when they didn't let Foles break the record. They only let him tie it. Let Barkley break the record against his former team

But they moved the interview back a whole 15 minutes!! wtf!
