Yeah... there's merit to both sides of it.

There's no guarantee that the rest will ultimately mean a thing.  It doesn't guarantee a win even in Round 1, let alone a Super Bowl.

Equally, there's no guarantee that playing the starters that he gets the record.. or that there's no injury to a major contributor.

No guarantees in sports.   For me, the record is something to be gone for.  It's lasted for 4 decades.  That's a special record.   But, I see the alternative side.  I'm just disappointed that we won't see him get a shot at it.

Yeah, that part sucks but in my mind you have to do everything possible to win the championship.  I think that always has to be the #1 priority.

I don’t think anyone’s going to really look at it that way.  Either you’re in the 2000 yard club, or you’re not.

For sure people will look at the best single season rushing totals. And they may not even care to look as far down as #8. They could have easily got him up to top 5 and have his name in a prominent place within that all time list, with 1 more drive. Maybe higher if he broke a big one and they were really starting to have their way in the run game at that point in the game.

If you ask who are the 9 guys to break 2k yards rushing? Sure his name is there.

If you look up greatest rushing seasons ever... his name may not even be noticed. No one will remember how close he was and how easily he could have had it except a few us eagles fans. Hes in a pretty forgettable place on that list as it is. Which is a damn shame.

Is playing for the #1 seed so you have have a bye also loser/scared mentality?

Lots of teams rest starters in the final week, they use it to rest and prepare for the playoffs.

If the Eagles happen to win their 2nd Super Bowl with a backup QB they will never sign a QB to a big contract again. Rev up that QB factory!

I was thinking the same thing.

Look at how many teams with round 1 playoff byes don’t make the conference championship game. A week of rest is basically a deathknell in the NFL. Andy Reid knows this better than anyone. I fully expect to see Mahomes play 4 quarters Sunday

Sugar Bowl postponed. Luckily I have tomorrow off

Funny part is... there's a champion every year.   No one has broken this record in 40 years.

while it’d be cool if he broke the record, that literally has zero impact on our ability to win the SB. So it doesn’t matter

And in every single one of those records, I bet if you offered the guy a ring in exchange for the record they’d take it every time

A record can be broken and forgotten; why Dickerson didn’t want it to be broken. Champions are immortal

I'm sure someone has looked at the stat. Curious what it is

Why not both

What kinda nonsense is this? Are you even a fan of the team?

Yeah I'm sure Lions fans would prefer having Sanders and Calvin Johnson to not sucking balls for 50 years. My goodness...

"It wasn't a hard decision," Reid said. "I've been through it before. ... It gives the other guys an opportunity to grow."

Yep.

Anything less than a Super Bowl appearance and Sirianni will be second guessed for years to come and justifiably so.

That's impossible.  There's no way that they could have both.

Ridiculous.

So it's a loser mentality to sit starters in a meaningless game so you go into the playoffs fully healthy?

Yet...

It's not a loser mentality to play everyone in a meaningless game because you're scared to look stupid if we don't make it to the Super Bowl?

Just complete drivel.

Like I posted before, playing scared rarely, if ever, leads to success.  I hope I’m wrong about this current situation and they win the Super Bowl but for some reason, I doubt it.

As long as the Eagles don’t lose in the first round, this decision will never be legitimately second guessed.

It's weird how people are acting like that's not an option. That he either gets the record or we get the SB. Just one of the weird counters I've seen today

It’s anything but a meaningless game.  I’m done talking about it because Sirianni made his decision.

What I can guarantee you is that he likely pissed off at least half the team.

So yes, anything less than (at least) a Super Bowl appearance and he will be second guessed - not just by fans, media, etc but by the players themselves and justifiably so.

Apparently you don’t know Eagles fans.
