With all the numbers on defense - does anyone think we resign or extend Goedert or Calcaterra ? I think we need to come away with one by the end of day 2.

I like Joly ( NC State ) or Endries ( Texas ) and I know Kitselman from Tennesee is a good blocker as well.

I would rather convert a DT or an OL to TE then play another snap of Calcaterra.

I don't even want him on the practice squad.

I really think Goedert is going to explore his free agency this year. He will get some good offers.

If this Diggs story broke in August or September strong chance they suspend him pending an investigation or release him. Them not doing now = we don't have anyone to replace him this late in the season.

And I actually don't mind teams sticking by players and not suspending them until proven guilty in a court of law. I think that's the best way to go. But the reality is, most teams for allegations that serious would at least have them quietly go on hiatus until the legal process wraps up if not outright release them. Of course depending on the quality of the player. Because sports franchises are not very principled and I do admire how they don't even try to hide it in a way. If winning means everything then embrace it. Not everyone needs to have principles.

Sadly, I don't even think there's much there to arrest Diggs on. Her statement brings up some questions:

-- what do you mean you 'think' you're owed one month's pay?? I'm well aware if I'm missing 4 hours on my paycheck.

-- he came in your unlocked bedroom door. You're living there as a personal chef? That seems sketchy, especially when NFL teams have in-house dining options at their facilities.

-- she needed to report this as soon as it happened. Police need to be able to gauge what level of physical harm was inflicted

-- what company does she work for? Is she just some woman that cooks food?? Again, pretty poor choice to move into your client's residence unless (or even if) you're bonded through a reputable company who can stand behind you as an employee

If Dean stays I don't know what they do with Campbell unless it's keep him as a part time player until Baun leaves. Which is possible I guess, but I don't know. Campbell has to get on the field.

Campbell WAS on the field and then Dean came back and everyone noticed how much better the D was with Dean's stoutness against the run.

As I see it, Campbell is a nice player and a very exciting draft pick, but hes not outplayed Dean so there is no hurry for me to let Dean go to make way for Campbell. Based on the way the defense performed with one or the other this year, thats a downgrade.

Now in the future it may not be. Campbell needs to add weight and get stronger for the NFL and he has a higher ceiling.

But this hurry to get him on the field over Dean, not sure where thats coming from. Im keeping both and getting Campbell on the field plenty. But not moving on from Dean for him.

According to McShay this draft is not top-heavy; very few elite prospects in the top 10. I looked through the top 5-6 highest rated QBs and there isn't a lot there. Mendoza is fine, but is he that much better than Carson Beck, for example? I usually look for a QB prospect who can get the ball out there 60 yards by flicking his arm -- definitely not seeing it in this group. I watched 15 minutes of Garrett Nussmeier and I'm not sure if he ever threw the ball more than 20 yards downfield.

Its a shame Nuss isnt at LSU while they had national championship talent and incredible WR corps year after year. Hes a QB though. Hes like a McKee. Put him here and give him an offense like the McVay or Shannahan offenses and he will be good. Put him in Philly, and he will run the offense like it should be run (like McKee runs it).

My guess is Some DL like Ojomo some and some of Davis and maybe a little Hunt or Nolan play and maybe Campbell but I don't think they play most key guys.

So are you thinking like keep Dean and Campbell when Bauns contract runs out ?

I completely agree...but that also means we have to toss out what Hurts did against the Raiders and Commanders...

Not the same thing. The other two games were important games. The opponent isn’t the main thing. The stakes are what makes it sort of meaningless. I do think Tanner has been pretty much all positive when he’s played though.

Also Jalen has played in two SBs so the comparison is a little… uh….

Yeah most likely. It probably wont feel good to move on from Baun then, but at least you can say youre sticking with the two younger options.

Right now, youre letting go of a really, really good LB for no good reason at all.

My defense.

Edge: Johnson, Uche

DT: Young, Robinson
LB: Trott, Mondon
CB: Carter, Ringo, Bennett
S: Sam, Brown

No need to play Ojomo or Davis more than 10 snaps. The back 7 should have no starters play.

They've drafted and sat other players for nearly 3 years. Hell, they traded up for Jordan Davis for him to play 26%, 45% and 27% o the snaps his first 3 years.

Campbell is going to end his rookie year playing roughly 62% of the snaps. Even i that dips down to 30% next year so Dean and Baun can be on the field, I'm all for it.

Baun's contract is essentially 2 years so after 2026, it can be the Dean and Campbell show.

Dean was playing at this level last year and has improved in every game he played this year. I'm not letting that production, leadership and talent walk out the door with the hopes the Campbell can step in.

I can understand that.

Steen may play some, but I don't think most of the OL will. Though I wonder if they'll play Mailata because Pryor is brutal as OT. If Mailata sits, Fred moves to LT and that means Pryor is RT unless they play Cameron Williams who isn't ready. And they still want to win the game and even against a brutal WSH defense, Pryor out there will be a problem.

Let me see McWilliams over Carter. McWilliams was drafted to have a role here. Carter is gone after this year.

Here's how I think we play it Sunday:

QB: McKee, Howell backup

RB: AJ Dillon gets most of the work, some Shipley, Bigsby dresses but doesn't play

WR: Cooper, Dotson and Covey. Neither AJ nor Smitty see the field. I don't think Smitty is close enough to 1,000 yards to risk it (44 yards)

OL: Pierce (PS elevation), Toth, Kendall, Pryor, Fred. Jordan, Steen and Cam/Landon have to dress, but they don't see the field unless someone gets hurt

TE: Calcaterra and Granson mainly

Edge: Uche, Hunt and Smith - we have limited options here to rest these guys. I can't imagine they have BG eat snaps at his age. Maybe Campbell plays some edge snaps

DT: Young and Robinson, with Ojomo playing a handful of snaps

LB: Mondon and Trott

CB: Ringo, Bennett and McWilliams

Slot: Carter

Safety: Sam (added to 53) and Smith

This is exactly what they should do.

Fair.

I do wonder if they'll prioritize winning over development with CB decisions.

I think they will try to win and will play key backups. You are doing that with McKee essentially. I expect Bigsby to have a big role and honestly I expect Campbell to play as well. I don’t think it’s a rest every possible person plan

Sure but you keep missing the point that there are many QBs that look the part in practice, preseason, etc and then can’t do it when it gets real. We have no evidence one way or the other as to how McKee will react.

In my mind, McKee has never not played well with the Eagles. Ever. Every game he’s played in, he’s been borderline fantastic. I think it would be kinda silly at this point to think he’s not a good quarterback.

Spotrac accounts for the rollover cap and is generally more accurate. More importantly, your numbers on the extensions are likely too high. Even if we give Carter 5 years, $150mm (which would be $117.5mm of new money over 3 years, or almost $40mm AAV), given how we structure contracts, he'll get ~$30mm year 1 that is almost all signing bonus ($1.215mm min salary). So that gets you a $7.2mm cap number.

The added $3.214M of 2026 cap cost comes from the Yr. 4 proration of his original $12.8M signing bonus, which can't be avoided. Here's my guesstimate of the proposed Carter deal, which uses Chris Jones top of market 2024 deal as a comp as far as total value and AAV.
- Minimum salaries from 2026-2030 (G'teed salaries from 2026-28)
- $35M SB
- $30M 2027 OB fully g'teed
- $25M 2028 OB guaranteed on 3rd day of 2027 league year (Practical g'tee)
- They may go so far as to g'tee a small portion of his $30M 2029 OB on the 3rd day of the 2028 LY

- $35M OB in 2030

- Some Incentives/Escalators for DPOY and SB Win

- Void years in 2031-34

In essence it's $97M over 3 years. While you are correct that it's not all new money it does sets the DT record for:
- Full Guarantee at signing/Cash Flow over 1st 2 years: $70.6M v. Jones's $60M
- Total Guaranteed at signing: $97M v. Jones's $95M
- Annual AAV of total contact: $32.38M v. Jones's $31.6M

Finally, disagree about the accuracy of Spotrac v. OTC

Just when I think this guy can't be any dumber...yeah, we have room on the 53 for this

So so relieved to hear they are resting starters.

😌

Problem there is that you'd have to add Johnson and Sam to the 53 man as both are out of PS elevations. There's only 1 spot open. Who are you cutting?
