EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Steen may play some, but I don't think most of the OL will. Though I wonder if they'll play Mailata because Pryor is brutal as OT. If Mailata sits, Fred moves to LT and that means Pryor is RT unless they play Cameron Williams who isn't ready. And they still want to win the game and even against a brutal WSH defense, Pryor out there will be a problem.

I posted this before, but that Eagles OL is scary bad. If the Skins play their starters you are talking about blocking Payne, Kinlaw and Newton. I'm not confident in that outcome.

I just hope whomever suits uo and plays tomorrow considers themselves an Eagle playing to win a regular season game to put us in a better position going into the playoffs, and not treating this like a pre-season exhibition simply to appear on tape for where the offseason takes them.

Now that’s the dedication this team needs. It’s no longer first one through the door last one out. It’s suiting up 3 days early to get the job done.

Easier said than done. If he’s getting overpaid to be a backup, he’s going to want to leave to get the chance to be the guy and get starter money.

True. Will take some doing. But maybe he would rather win with us than lose elsewhere. He looks like a keeper and probably knows he will flourish if given the chance. A lot of the pieces are in place here and he knows the organization too.

Who is Smith at S?

Meant Brown -- too much multi-tasking

I didn't know his passion for playing was in question. Was it just because he's having a down year that's likely from his shoulders?

It was pre-draft talk out of Georgia that he didn't practice hard. Then he was out of shape at his pro day.

The ideal scenario, other than for the insufferable sports talk radio chatter, is for McKee to light it up Sunday, and then we look to move him to a QB needy team that won't be in a position to draft one. Some candidates are: Miami (assuming they are 100% done with Tua), Jets (draft pick might be high enough to get a rookie), Cleveland (neither rookie they have looked good), Indy (depends on Daniel Jones who is a FA and hurt), Arizona (depending on Murray). I skipped LV as I think they take Mendoza, and New Orleans will roll with Shough. The issue is anyone trading a real pick will also want to extend him, and will any team do that based on a few games -- give up a day 2 pick and commit money to an unproven guy.

Feels like it would have to be a coach that knows him up close like Steichen

Here's how I think we play it Sunday:

QB: McKee, Howell backup

RB: AJ Dillon gets most of the work, some Shipley, Bigsby dresses but doesn't play

WR: Cooper, Dotson and Covey. Neither AJ nor Smitty see the field. I don't think Smitty is close enough to 1,000 yards to risk it (44 yards)

OL: Pierce (PS elevation), Toth, Kendall, Pryor, Fred. Jordan, Steen and Cam/Landon have to dress, but they don't see the field unless someone gets hurt

TE: Calcaterra and Granson mainly

Edge: Uche, Hunt and Smith - we have limited options here to rest these guys. I can't imagine they have BG eat snaps at his age. Maybe Campbell plays some edge snaps

DT: Young and Robinson, with Ojomo playing a handful of snaps

LB: Mondon and Trott

CB: Ringo, Bennett and McWilliams

Slot: Carter

Safety: Sam (added to 53) and Smith

I'll be watching the Food Network, if that's the lineup.

The only way McKee is resigning here is if there is a chance to start, which would require moving off Hurts. Which is basically impossible until after the 2026 season (a post June 1 trade could happen this offseason and be managed cap wise). We traded McNabb and extended Kolb at the same time. No way McKee locks himself into a backup role if he has the desire to start in this league.

McKee was drafted in 2023 -- after Steichen left.

Thanks there, shorty…

Moore would have been great except Shough has looked decent, so no need down in New Orleans.

Yeah thats the obvious fit but they are still in cap hell arent they? Another year or two of Shough should help them clear it out

Tried to focus on the Tenn corners last night. Was not really impressed by any of them

$22mm over next year's cap and well over $100mm in dead money it seems.

so...yes. still in cap hell.

lol

In the scenario vikas posted, there is money to keep him.

Another scenario is that we’re trading somebody after 6/1 that requires a dead money hit.

The way this organization finds guys like Mailata, Hunt, and Baun is just fantastic.

Hunt also has 2 picks, 2 forced fumbles, and a TD.

Rumor has it he may have been in the way of a pass last week too. Big if true!

Did you know he was a former safety?

I think they will try to win and will play key backups. You are doing that with McKee essentially. I expect Bigsby to have a big role and honestly I expect Campbell to play as well. I don’t think it’s a rest every possible person plan

I'd play Bigsby. And Campbell.

Bigsby to get him hot for a playoff run. They used him so sparingly it was criminal. Mostly I just want him to run well so that maybe they use him more in the playoffs.

Campbell is optional but you can risk injury to get him more snaps. Also doesn't need rest. But you have adequate backups so it's not like you need him to play.

Would love to see who else put in a claim.

Double move time.

Over the cap did a weird clear out of Diggs personal page. 2025 and forward does not exist as if he retired after 2024.

What I can see from the Cowboys pages is an immediate hit on 2025 of just under 12 million and a hit in 2026 of 5.8 million.

I'm not sure if that assumes he does not get claimed or if that has no bearing. Overall hit for Dallas of about 17.5 million - his week 18 salary.

If Green Bay keeps him he has a 2026 salary of around 15.5 million and a 2027 salary of 20.5 million.

Green Bay can renegotiate that or switch some to bonus.

He and Parsons are close.
