If they wanted him trade back don't take him there.

Maybe no one was willing to trade up. I don't like the pick either.

I think biggest reason I don't love the Bell pick.

If in next year's draft they're in position to draft a top OT in round 1, you know they will. Which means they will have just spent a high 3rd rounder on a backup. This pick will not stop them from pursuing a top OT in future years, so I really don't see the point of spending a 3rd on an OT unless you project them as your future starter. And I highly doubt they do. I think this is a "Add a bunch of OT bodies and hope one develops into a stud" which is... fine, but I'd rather they not use high 3rds on players like that. That's still expected starter territory.

Counterpoint:

Depth MATTERS in the NFL. A quality swing tackle in the third round is a solid outcome.

Counterpoint 2: Aside for Lane Johnson, Mailata has mentioned he wants to go out on top. I think he views football as much more of a job than his life like many players who have been playing their whole lives and grew up in American football culture. He’s already 29 years old. If he retires in 2 or 3 seasons, then we’re covered.

Yup. Or Howie wanted his guy

Someone fell in love with him. Probably Howie

Imagine Smith, Lemon, and Stowers routing guys up in an offense that creates space for them as well and a QB who sees it on time and gets it to them in time for RAC opportunities.

Trade the rest of the picks this year for Nuss.

I'm not a fan of lottery tickets in the 3rd round. I was happy with the first 2 picks. Not happy with this pick.

Fair but I view them all as lottery tickets anyway. I think the ceiling and floor talk is all BS that rarely holds true either way.

I'm not down on any of the picks for who they took, but I wonder if they could have simply made better selections tonight. A project OT seems like a day 3 pick. Stowers I hope flourishes in the offense, but there were some players a lot of fans really liked available at other positions, and many liked Delp at TE. I'm excited about new talent on offense. And these guys can take their rookie year to develop without pressure given the talent ahead of them, then increase their role in their 2nd year. Adding Greenard at Edge solidifies that position. So those are good, but I wonder if they could have done better with tonight's picks.

I'm really concerned about depth behind Dickerson and Jurgens, given their health. If Dunker falls into the 4th, I wish they had a 4th to take him.

We are going to regret not having those 4ths. The talk about the talent drop off is BS when it comes to this years class. Maybe after round 4. Not after round 3. There will be players we really wished we had in round 4.

That's the crux of the draft. Did they pick the best possible guy?

That's true. I'm not that upset. Hopefully they can develop him. We'll see.

The last question on this team is safety.

Upgraded CB2, and Edge.

Added playmakers on offense. Should be massive improvement in overall scheme.

Team improved.

Kind of think safety is likely a position they target at the trade deadline if it is an issue

People said the same thing when they took Steen. Ended up being a bad pick. I would much rather take a developmental OT later and take a starter. Haulcy starts on this team day one. Pregnon possibly as well despite the age. A lot of other guys available too.

I wanted at least an OG as Dickerson insurance.

The more I think about it, the more I hate the Bell pick. Love the first 2 picks
