I'm a big Smith fan but AJ's presence on the field does help Smith with coverage assignments.

I think Smith will be successful still but some of stats projected by people is unrealistic. Not to mention Mannion's scheme spreads the ball.

I understand AJ needs to go but people that think the offense is better without him are delusional

The offense will be better because we won't have the worst OC in the NFL. There is no way to say definitively east Mannion's scheme is or isn't the way it uses WRs. He was the QB coach for the Packers and they didn't have a WR as good as DeVonts, they just had a room deep of side kicks. Eagles are amassing some side kicks as well but DeVonta is going to feast this season.

He both has the talent to put up monster numbers and now will naturally get a lot with AJ gone and Hurts being most comfortable with DeVonta.

I didn’t want to say anything during the game, but the goalie is a wall. Waldar!

This will be the most electric flyers home game in probably 10 years, they really need to bring it

You have it backwards. Meant they went after the guy on purpose. #74.

Next years picks are more valuable than this years.

No they are not, despite hypothetically being a more talented class.

A season is an eternity in the NFL. Time preference is EXTREMELY high. Remember, most GMs and HCs get 3 seasons, and then they’re done — usually forever!

And a rookie usually takes a season before he starts playing at a high level, if he ever does at all.

Given that, future picks are ALWAYS worth less than current picks, regardless of how talented a future draft class may appear. It’s just a matter of career survival for the front office and coaching staff.

Phillies are predictably complete ass and a train wreck. When do the firings begin.

If, say, the Falcons offered their 2027 1 for pick 23 straight up, so you believe Howie would say no?

Didn’t they just give the batting coach an extension🤣

Yes, Howie would demand more and rightly so.

Heck, the Falcons themselves JUST made such a trade last season.

The Falcons traded #46, #242 and a 2026 1st round pick for #26 and #101.

Howie isn’t going anywhere. Generally speaking, I would agree with you. But in his and this teams situation, Nope.

Reading between the lines of what’s been reported, Howie wants 2027 picks and not 2026. With the Patriots specifically, I find it hard to believe anyone would want #31 in the 2026 draft vs what their first might be in 2027. That alone tells you what is more valuable.

The pats are gonna have a top 15 pick next year

Wicks contract is gross.

WR2 next year?

Young. Fast. And quick to the zone on changes. Pittsburgh was slow AF after shift changes. Even got a penalty on one for 7 men on the ice. LOL.

Hitting. A lot. What 50 hits today to 35 or so? 48 to 41 in game 1 I think.

Defense has been excellent.

Not so great on organized offensive sorties, but doing really well causing and coming out of turnovers.

Killing it in the neutral zone. Causing havoc before they can get rolling. Really matters against a good passing team like Pittsburgh.

And a hot goalie. White hot. A shutout, FFS.

And now stoning them on penalty kills, which we were poor at (bottom 3rd?)

Coach has them inside the old guys' heads too. Pissing off Crosby and Malkin. Glorious.

It would be inspiring to most people. On a totally, completely, unrelated note ….. is Embiid playing tomorrow?

Vladar might be the best goalie we’ve had since Pelle Lindberg.

Dan is playing great, and tonight he played a perfect game. But Ron Hextall won the Conn Smythe for the losing Stanley Cup team. Against the Oilers at the height of their powers. As a rookie. And he was the first goalie in NHL history to score a goal. Dan has some catching up to do, but he is playing great and is the difference in these games.

Another fun game. They took it on the chin at times, but Vladar bailed them out. Really nice to have the hot goalie. Gotta say Sanheim/Risto have become an extremely effective top pair.

We've changed our PK from the end of the season. Attacking the puck and making the Pens make quick decisions. Very nice change from the end of the regular season.

We're gonna need more offensively from our 2nd and 3rd lines to keep winning, but like you said, team is playing a very solid and responsible defense. Drysdale has been impressive. Playing the best hockey of his career.

MM looking overwhelmed by the physicality and lack of space, unfortunately. Could see Tocchet scratching him Wednesday in favor of Bump.

Martone didn't have as strong an all around game as Saturday, but he is a doggone goal scorer. It's an amazing feeling as a Flyers fan. Puck on his tape = good results.

I thought about Hextall. He was great in the early years, but then not so good later on. His second tour of duty was unremarkable. I still remember how surprising it was when they started Garth Snow in the playoffs one year over him.

Mock draft database has this guy as prospect #782. I think he might be better than that. From Camden. Played for Syracuse, transferred to LSU. Then back to syracuse. CB/S

Nah you have to factor in time. Its has value. Thats why a third this yr is worth a second next yr and so on, regardless of talent pool

Now You could argue that time is slightly lower to the eagles relative to other teams based on cap structure and such

Which is not a concern or consideration for Howie. He gets to think further ahead than any GM in the nfl.

You’re comparing the 2025 and 2026 drafts as part of this. The argument was about the 2026 draft vs 2027 drafts.

Considering the perceived strength of next year’s draft and the odds the Eagles won’t have a true first-round grade on the board at 23, I think Howie would seriously consider taking that swap straight up. The Falcons could easily have a top 10 pick next year.

Those Flyers teams had personnel adhd. I think they had more players leave and then return than any franchise in sports history.

Hextall, Tocket, Renberg, Gagne, Recchi, Boucher, Therien…probably more. They were a personnel boomerrang
